Haven’t finished the podcast yet, but in relation to the poo story - The gates of Oblivion can supposedly be seen through her teeth, so perhaps instead of eating Trinamac and shitting Malacath, she could’ve banished him to Oblivion, through her mouth-gate, and her stomach, where “Trinamac suffered” could be her plane. So Trinny became Mally after being hurled into Oblivion and back out again.

Same. I used to think about some of them for way too long, particularly the Three Good Daedra, because I knew there was a reason they're worshipped as "good" by the Dunmer but seen as evil by almost everyone else... my first experience with TES was Skyrim, so I took what I saw about Meridia and Azura and that brought me doubt about Boethia and Mephala. This series had helped me sleep at night, tbh. I don't have to ponder these as hard in a bad, confused way. I can ponder them in a more esoteric, "daedric" way now.

The reason they refer to Boethia as being amongst the strongest of Padomaics in the Songs of Wulfharth is to show that the Nords acknowledge Boethia as being powerful because of her connection to Padomay and thus to Lorkhan as a means of showing that Nerevar was a powerful leader of the Chimer due to him being the son of Boethia, making him equally connected to Padomay/Lorkhan. Basically, they were saying Boethia/Nerevar were strong because they were more like the Nords ideologically than other elves were. Essentially stating that the strongest of the Elves and Daedra were only strong because of the traits they shared with Nords/Men. Its Nordic self-glorification by acknowledging your enemy's strength as traits borrowed from or shared with the Nords themselves.

In my head-canon, Boethiah just absorbed Trinimacs form leaving him as nothing but a husk. His followers try to move the corpse and all the sudden the curse that changes them spreads, in a scene similar to Promethues when the race is wiped out by that big black cloud of death.

For me it's like the expression "chewed up and spat out" like boethia probably just beat Trinimac to near death. The people worshiping probably absorbed some of him and in this act they corrupted themselves and became orcs and he became a daedric lord. (Blood or taking anything from a dead or almost dead God in the Elder Scrolls universe almost always ends up terribly)

And what is the purpose of that existence? You stand alone having committed violence against any who would have been as kin to you. All your handiworks are violence and invite only more violence. And should you overcome existence that violence surely will not end. Banished from your life is love, beauty, and fellowship that all lesser men may freely enjoy. Boethia is your only joy and would gladly take everything from you the moment you ask for more than just proving you exist.

Drew: "Of all my co-creators, but two remain. Tell me, second-to-last, with what shall you prove your existence?" Michael: "Without hesitation I drew forth my wiki-research and buried it in the accounts of the other who commented beside me, and without fear replied: "Ask him whose story now sprouts from my citation if I exist." Drew smiled. And the gates of Oblivion opened between his teeth. Then he said: "Tell me, now-last of my co-creators, wherefore do you remain where the others do not?" I retrieved my citation, and offered it up saying: "My point is alive because that one's dead. I exist because I have the will to do so. And I shall remain as long as there are signs of my handwork, such as the lore dripping from this quote." Accepting my gift, Drew nodded and said: "Indeed."

I do wonnder what Boethia thinks about Dagon. With him being the prince of change, rebellion and energy I do think they share common traits. Also we have to consider paradise, where the faitful were beiing hunted by dremora in order for them to adapt, fight and ascend to become dremora themselves and loose fear of death through constant struggle and rebirth.

Look at Azura's stories. Shes the Daedra of Metamorphoses and Change. Her rage changed the Chimer to Dunmer She set the shapes of the Khajiit She may have been the reason for why Aldmer became Orismer, (though Boethiah holds a corrupt form of Trinimac) but why Malacath became beastly. She is dawn and dusk, liminal times of shifting.

I played Arena in high school, but I am younger than a "boomer". My parents are boomers, but I guess everyone over 30 seems ancient to you wee lads. Speaking of older TES games, you guys need to make a video that discusses the "spiritual prequal" to Arena, which of course is Pacman (and then its sequel Mrs Pacman). Boethiah was originally a mortal named Pacman (and then later Mrs Pacman, which is where the concept of Boethiah's shifting gender came from). Through their struggles in the "arena", they consumed everything possible until clearing the entire plane at which point, the next kalpa begins, and the struggle restarts. It was only after countless attempts at winning finishing kalpa after kalpa (because there would always be another kalpa) that they realized the truth: the struggle itself is madness and thus the true struggle is to stop struggling. All players of Pacman eventually realize this and thus achieve chim escaping the endless cycles. Thus, Boethiah is really the embodiment of the contradictory notion of "struggling to stop struggling" which is why they come in both genders, which is how this contradictory notion expresses itself to mortals. And of course, their path to chim is through struggle and deeds (gobbling power pellets and dispatching enemies only to see them respawn) over and over until you realize that the struggle itself is vain, cease the struggle, and thus transcend the arena altogether. We need that video.

@Wirr Ling Well, how so? I know a part of the OG Trinimac remains in Malacath, if what I've heard about Malacath's realm is accurate, there's a part in it that isn't full of ash and stuff, a part that's green and beautiful, and that it's the last bit of Trinimac left. Maybe a super cool warrior Altmer can achieve Chim and mantle the last bit of Trinimac, maybe with Malacath's help. Maybe after that happens, Malacath will deform eve further in appearance, showing the full transition from Aedric Trinimac to Daedric Malacath, and the new Trinimac will combine the teachings of the old one and Malacath together.

A good reasoning behind boethiah not being cool with the tribunal is that they in theory they did it 'for the greater good of their people'(while they were fairly self serving, they definitely did a TON of good stuff for the dunmer, protecting them from strife and struggel, giving prosperity, subjegating their will, and even formalizing internal strife to a degree that it's no longer a cutthroat society). This seems to not only be antagonistic to boethiah's preferred motivations BUT ALSO precludes the other chimer/dunmer(the people boethiah would likely identify with as their selected people the most) from genuine 'overcoming' of existence.

I feel like Boethiah wouldn't have liked what the Tribunal did for the following reasons: One, she and her followers seem to view Lorkhan as sacred. She punished people for simply saying bad things about him. So she probably wouldn't like them corrupting and profaning his heart. Two, as mentioned, just because her sphere is plots, lies, and betrayal doesn't mean she enjoys being lied to or betrayed. I mean there might be some things you could get away with because she'd respect that you have game, but this seems like too much. Three, I feel like she would see using a dead God's artifact, AFTER someone else already slew it's guardians as cheating. They didn't achieve ascendance Using their own power and knowledge, but by stealing from one who couldn't even defend themselves. They alone may not piss off Boethiah, but the fact that there was no real challenge to it that they just waltzed in and took it definitely would.

11:12 - It makes sense to me too that Boethiah would hate Molag Bal but for a different reason. Molag Bal is all about domination and subservience. It seems to me that, if anything, Boethiah is all about complete freedom and independence. Have no loyalty to anyone, bow to no one. Look out for your own interests only and struggle ruthlessly to accomplish them. That's pretty much the opposite to Molag Bal who demands complete subservience to his will.
@OneOnOne1162
@OneOnOne1162 3 года назад
13:52 - That's exactly the sort of thing I was talking about. Molag Bal would've loved that guy, bowing to him and cowering before him. Because he's all about subservience. But Boethiah hates that in a follower. She doesn't want subservience. She wants people to be completely independent with no loyalty or deference to any authority, including her own. Basically, both value strength. But Molag Bal values his own strength and others' strength in dominating and enslaving others. Boethiah values the strength of her followers and their strength to overcome or resist the domination or enslavement by others.
@OneOnOne1162
@OneOnOne1162 3 года назад
18:23 - And Boethiah saying not to worship the divines like that also makes sense. They're also authorities that people become subservient too. And subservience, in Boethiah's mind, makes you weak and flaccid and useless.
@OneOnOne1162
@OneOnOne1162 3 года назад
25:48 - I think that's true and I think that's because Boethiah simply does not acknowledge the idea of loyalty or authority. I think maybe Boethiah's sphere shouldn't be seen in the sense of encouraging a betrayal of loyalty or an overthrow of authority. That's the mortal perspective on it. But Boethiah doesn't see it that way, I think. She simply doesn't consider loyalty and authority as existing. These things are wind to her. You only act in your interest, to live your life as you see fit, you take what you can take and get what you can get and that's all.

I agree wholeheartedly. The White-Gold Concordat was obviously an armistice rather than a peace treaty. The Thalmor needed decades to rebuild their ranks and the Empire was inept and corrupt enough to allow it. If the Thalmor could have taken the Empire without signing it then they absolutely would have done so.

I feel fundamentally the violent path that Boethia represents is a dead end. When pursuing power and overcoming for it's own sake you doom yourself to a rote existence that is arguably as bad or worse than death. Naarvare is the best though for his dedication to what Azura represents, beauty and love for ones self and life that lends purpose to the struggle of Boethia.

There's a sort of weird irony about the whole Boethiah and accepting struggle attitude...I find that High Elves and Bosmer are way...happier or find more passion and less likely to be self-pitying whereas Dunmer are far more likely to have a kind of self-loathing, "why does all the bad stuff happen to me?" attitude. In other words, Altmer and Bosmer from what I can tell ironically have more confidence than Dunmer. Altmer and Bosmer structures are more elegant..."happier" structures than Dunmer...Dunmer stuff is just pained and depressing most of the time...I mean, when I go to Dunmer areas, even the music is just more depressing and the music for Bosmer and Altmer is more prideful, relaxing, or brilliant, exceptions would be on Vvardenfell with some of the ESO and Morrowind songs that are a bit more cheerful (but I think that's probably because they have to do with Vivec who is by nature this generally optimistic "We can do it" sort of person). Otherwise, mainland Morrowind is just depressing as hell lol, dark gray stone structures near volcanoes and swamps with no real elegance or pleasantness, meanwhile, the people who apparently hate being mortal have the most exquisitely beautiful, meaningful architecture that seems to be a celebration of form and purpose. So I think some of the whole Boethiah wants you to learn how to struggle is ironic. Because, in my opinion at least, the High Elves and Bosmer show how to live as mortals far better than the Dunmer so far...the Dunmer seem lost because of the tension between "Good Daedra" and Tribunal (of course, that it over in 'modern' Tamriel whenever TES 6 drops). But I don't agree that the Altmer (or even Aldmer) sat around moping and teary eyed...they created some of the most beautiful art, magic, structures in Tamriel that every culture since has had to reckon with

It was such a disgusting episode in Elder Scrolls Lore, the writers really let the fans down with such gross needless imagery - its an example of how even the downtrodden underdogs can commit acts so horrible that you no longer feel any sympathy for them, they have become as disgusting as their oppressors.

Because "Prince" comes from Latin, "Princeps," which means "first, ruler, most distinguished." It's technically gender-neutral but overtime, it became masculine.

@@CyrodiilCome What I meant was if one says anything counter to Christian doctrine, someone always comes on and quotes a bunch from the Bible. Which they are free to do as is their but others are also free to express their irritation to it. But of course, if one expresses one's irritation to Christian doctrine you get people like you who immediately jump to using value judgements. Arguments that use ethos as a strategy are inheritly flawed and inferior. Not saying your belief or anyone else's is inferior, just the rhetorical devices used to justify them. Also I do find it irritating when one states things like "God loves you" and just expects others to take them on face value and just believe. Personally, whether or not someone's god "loves me", has no impact what-so-ever on my life. I'm not trying to get into some transcendental paradise, my goals are far more practical and unapologetically earthly. Heaven has always seemed incredibly boring to me, no sex, no danger, no risk, no pain, and no free will. Yeah not my idea of a good time.

I like your stuff, but guys, every time you say you ”like” Boethiah I throw up in my mouth a bit. Yeah, she’s kinda cool in a grimdark badass kinda way. You can be fascinated, I respect that. But ”liking” ... no. Just no. Boethiah is at the same time the most despicable and the most dysfunctional of all the Daedra. It’s not just that her definition of ”strength” and ”weakness” forces worshippers into rediculous for-the-EVULZ behaviour. (Like that story with a worshipper - and what an epic fail that ceremony was btw - backstabs his buddy to survive and pretends that it is an act of will rather than cowordice.) It’s not just that she tells you that emotional connections to other beings makes you weak, and if you ever find yourself caring for someone else you should kill that someone to exorcise your vulnerability. And that is defined as ”strength” rather than self harm by proxy. The most annoyingly stupid part of her creed is that cooperation is *stronger* than reflexively trying to screw everyone you interact with. Chronic backstabbing disorder is a recipe for failure, not a road to success. Societies where people can rely on each other are infinitely stronger, richer and more functional than societies where everyone constantly has to spend time, effort, thought and resources to guard against inevitable betrayal of everyone else. And also nicer to live in, just by the way. I think that the dark elves are probably fu##ed as a civilization because of their cultural affinity for this Daedra.
@etinarcadiaego7424
@etinarcadiaego7424 3 года назад
But it's not about making the whole stronger or building something greater, it's about serving yourself at all costs. Who cares what happens to people you never see or interact with, or what happens to everyone else when you fail and die? Why serve "society" or something bigger at all if you might get anything out of it? Not every fetishizes bullshit like "civilization" or the "civic will" Leave that to the damn commies. I don't serve anyone but myself and my family. I just don't get caring about building anything if it all goes away for you when you die. The world ceases to exist as far as I'm concerned when I pass away. I don't care if it's dysfunctional or delusional. Will is the highest power in the universe.

When they say they like Boethiah they do it as respect for the bold character writing, besides there are plenty things people like that aren't good for them. Whether we like it or not betrayal is a fundamental part of nature, even the most trusting societies at least betray outsiders, not to mention those that fail to meet expectations and so on, such that liking Boethiah is more akin to accepting one's ruthlessness than worshipping a being that doesn't desire it.

@@etinarcadiaego7424 You miss half of my point. This is a recipy for failure on a personal level *as well* as collectively. If you follow Boethiahs way for life you’re setting yourself in a position of constantly effing yourself. Other people will catch on to your selfish ways and will go after you in a combination of moral outrage and self defence: you’ll always be the first to be thrown to the sharks when the ship is in trouble. Having no friends and no allies, you’ll constantly be defeated by groups of people working together. And even for heartless selfish bastards, connection with other people feels good, but following Boethiah you just can’t have nice things. Following this Daedra doesn’t make the dark elves som kind of magnificent bastards, it turns them into a pack of pathetic losers. Edit: by the way if you were serious about following queen B, you should eff your family. Betray those who love and trust you! They deserve to suffer for being so weak and pathetic that they trusted you...

I love the idea of a band of murdering psychopaths becoming family and saying fuck anyone or anything but us because we live and fight for each other.
