The old fashioned way of getting out :) A great example of why it is best to carry a long handled shovel not a standard shovel. Also a good idea to fill in the holes so others using the beach don't get swallowed by them.
@technopsychobedlam

Each to his own, but never liked long handled shovels. As long as you can reach the centre of the vehicle, having a longer handle just makes them more clumsy to use and really annoying in tight spaces.

@@technopsychobedlam Agree 100%. Long handled shovels require more effort with your arms & the extra length is a waste. Average length shovels allow you to get quite flat under the car with it & if you’re in a rush with your digging, the shorter shovel will do the same amount of work much quicker with less (tiring) range of motion.

Having done a decent amount of touring (5 months across Canada with 2 kids under three, heap of touring in australia) she called me for advice, I recommend watching Ronnie as a family Friday night thing. Great video Ronny! A few ideas for other scenarios: - Your manual gearbox stops working properly on a trail. You don't have all the gears. What do you do? - You run out of fuel in the bush. What do you do? - You run out of water in the bush. What do you do? - You damage a tire sidewall and need to change the tire on a technical trail. What's the procedure? - Your car won't start in the morning out in the bush. You suspect the battery is flat. What do you do? - You've got yourself onto a difficult technical trail that's too much for your vehicle or skillset. There's nowhere to turn around. What do you do?

Got almost bogged on that same beach at the lead lights north of Lancelin in a MQ Patrol before you were born Ronnie. In winter that’s a eroding beach meaning steep and soft. Often if trying to walk on it you will sink down to your ankles. It’s a bit better in summer when it’s a depositing beach. Yes it used to be the shortcut to Wedge Island back in the day and it did claim a lot of vehicles including the old VW beach buggies back in the day. Good explanation, thanks for the effort. In Lancelin yesterday myself. 👍

In the end it was a rock under the front chassis holding it up so your tips wouldn't have worked . Lucky a pass-a-by was able to tow me out . Negotiating backtracks- sand dunes-washouts- sand ledges and steep off camber beach’s. It’s not a myth having issues with Tyres on low pressure. From my experience sometimes sand gets in the bead when on low pressure and this causes air leak which makes the tyre come off. Water - mud and rough terrain also doesn’t help.

Hi there, funny thing, I had similar situation last year. I bogged on sandy (wet sand like on this beach) rural road or I rather hanged with wheels in the air coz some machinery from the construction site nearby did a huge ruts probably after rain, much deeper than my stock FJ could bear. I could avoid it driving astride but it was pensive in the dark coming home and usually that road was ok. I had ice scraper only with me doing 80% of job with it. I found it a really good tool. Then I tried to find sth longer for removing sand from under the engine and rest of the belly I couldn't reach with a scraper. I found some board, happily without nails. I aired my tires down, but I didn't know how to check pressure, so I count 20 seconds for every tire only - later I found it gave me around 3 PSI only. I put low gear and after 2 hours on the third attempt I finally crawl out. I was happy like a puppy. It was my first bog. Cheers from Poland.
