My question too.. Alternator in those conditions I'm particularly keen to hear about.

Yes I had the alternator fail after this trip, the dash lights came up on the drive home. Not even a brush clean could save it. Had to be replaced. Mud and muddy water particularly affects the alternator due to its low mounting position. But clean fresh water aren’t a problem. For the starter motor on the other hand, I have recently done a starter motor after 3 bonnet deep fresh water crossings at Cape York (check out my other vids). Susceptible to any water ingress and a very expensive fix to replace.

Hey mate, i'm honestly still finding bits of mud underneath, but probably about 5 hours to get most of it out including the mud in the cab haha

Ha, yea I know the feeling, its fun getting em dirty, not so much fun cleaning them up, lolz.

lol. i get jealous all the time when mates head off but i wrk i a gun range so i jst tell them I can dual weld 45 and unload 200 rounds anytime I want , but on the quiet getting out would be better.

Or I could have stayed on the bitumen and never even tried the border track?! But where's the fun in that!

Hey mate! This is a 2010 GXL model 76 series. No problems at all; just as long as you're happy with a vehicle that is more of a work horse than a luxury wagon!

Yea she was pretty slippery mate, and being a 76, the front and rear axles have different wheel tracks so would have come straight off. I could have used the power and launched out of there on the right track, but as it was I had a wheel lift when I hit on a couple of attempts. I would much rather get towed out (as I ended up doing), then thrash it and risk the breakage from launching the rig in the air :)

Yeah mate, it's got a 2" lift from ARB (Old Man Emu lift) If i was doing it again I would get an EFS lift kit.
