These amps are where your mettle is tested. I wouldn't attempt anything more than opening it up looking at it and scratching my head.

War story: My workplace just moved into a new office. They'd had some electricians wire in some outlets. I plugged a power strip into the new outlet and it had a pretty good bang. Turns out the electrician wired our 120V outlets to the lighting circuit: 277V. The surge protector did it's job.

I would love to live near a place where I could walk in and get decent electronics components. The best we have is a former Radio Shack that sells the same limited selection of parts only now a lot of them are the same unbranded mystery bits you can get on Amazon. Quite often they never have exactly what you need, just something you can slap in as a patch job. Always fun to have to build a frankenresistor to get something running while you wait for the real part to arrive. RIP Fry's.

Shiva’s are a pain to work on, but I’ve had a 20th Anni KT88 Shiva that has been the best amp for playing live. Cleans are amazing and the drive is so huge sounding. Best Clean/dirty amp I’ve found.

Companies who are so stingy with putting their schematics out deserve to spend a few decades in amp purgatory fixing Mesas with nothing but a low wattage soldering iron. Who do they think they are, Alexander Dumble?
@qua7771
@qua7771 2 года назад
Absolutely! They want thousands for an amp that only one person knows how to fix. If something happens to them, everyone who owns one is screwed, unless you can pay a tech to reverse engineer it. Great deal!

Hmm, Page shows 5K now. Behind the scenes says 4,988. Maybe 12 people subscribed then unsubscribed. ;) Can't worry about that stuff, it would drive me crazy. And that's what Mesas and Bogners are for...

I had a 101B back in the day, nothing but trouble with it. I’ll stick to simple amps in future. Can’t beat the classics.

I have seen reverse-engineered schematics for the Shiva out there on the Internet, but they vary wildly in terms of completeness and I have no idea about their accuracy. The one I have in my Hilariously Oversized Cache of Internet Amp Schematics [tm] is just for the preamp, which wouldn't have helped in this case.

You’d think all touring musicians would be running all amps through a variac. I’ve had a few problems in clubs and bars with power issues and also inadvertently picking up the 10 o clock news through my Super reverb- boy that’s a fun gig

Great work! I have never seen an amp with smps for the heaters before.. maybe not the best solution.. Interesting solution on the fx loop. I guess they where made for rack gear with line levels?

SMD parts in a high end tube amp? Wow times have changed!

SMD in a tube amp, highly dubious engineering inside. Switchmode power supply also another bad design on Bogner amps.
@qua7771
@qua7771 11 месяцев назад
@@user-cd8ri1mc6s I wired my Ceriatone KK with the best parts I could find, (a nice old school turret board amp at a good price). It could easily last over 100 years with service. The stuff I'm seeing coming from so-called boutique companies looks like cheap crap. Hand wired versions are insanely priced. I don't know what to say.

Haha ! The power switch broke at your shop as the customer is trying to show you a problem ! That amp was begging for help ! It needed physical help and mental "Why was I born a Bogner!! WHY!!?" "Fix my Loop!". HAHA! Sorry im cracking myself up over here ;-)
@chrisquinn9104
@chrisquinn9104 Год назад
I didn’t get through all of the comments, but Bogner has a special patch cord modification for these loops. I though about putting one into a project box. Are these earlier Shivas possibly more repairable/ reliable without the power supply module?

There are 2 large brown caps pretty much center of amp, 1 looks like it is starting to sprout a nipple, is that leaking or normal?

What always gave me a laugh was when I would ask a company for a copy of their product's schematic which was made in China. They would respond by saying we don't want anyone coping our product. I would then reply So then why did you have the copycat country of the world build your product? I usually I would not get an answer after that.

Was it a voltage spike or just bad power? Could it be solved with a step-down variac?
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 3 года назад
I don't know as I wasn't there, and those who were didn't measure anything.
@russellhltn1396
@russellhltn1396 3 года назад
Just thinking about what kind of bad power there might be on stage gives me the willies. (See my other post.) It might be an open neutral that allows the "120V" to be anywhere 0 - 250V. That kind of abuse might be something to consider in your design. I did notice one of your past amps had a MOV on the input. I'm pretty sure it was after the main fuse because until I saw that I was a bit concerned that there was no thermal protection for the MOV.

Some outdoor gigs use generators, never know how well the voltage is regulated.

We are just a weekend band, but all our stuff goes through Furman power conditioners, especially new digital gear like Kempers, wireless systems, wireless mixer, band router, etc. Ive never heard of a full time “touring band” not doing something similar. There is different power levels everywhere, ie., in houses, studios, practice rooms let alone on stages where you find the Clark Griswold outlet, compressors, fans, generators or the occasional refrigerator that ramps up! Sorry this band didn’t think of that. My gear is too expensive not to insure it on stage.

Seems like the guy would have learned by now. These amps are not roadworthy if they’re not easily repairable. What is this, the 6th video on the same amp in the past month? If anything, I learned not to buy or recommend any Bogner products. This is getting ridiculous.

We're just trying to get him through some booked dates then he's either going to have me build him a custom amp or get a Friedman. I know my vote on that, but either will be reliable and sound great.
