My grandparents went to this concert and they said it was something that’s so once in a lifetime that it can’t be put into words the emotions and feelings of going to one of the biggest concerts ever preformed
Is it fair to say Queen’s Live Aid performance is arguably the greatest 20 minutes in music history? It’s definitely up there, as is Queen as one of the greatest bands of all time.
It's most definitely the greatest in music history. Nothing can come close to it. Be it amount of people gathered, singing along, common ground in terms of music in general. Not even including the performance in and off itself. Inarguably, the most significant and greatest performance of music ever.
@@timbaud5704I don’t doubt it was outstanding, but I don’t think we can really rank a performance that went unrecorded as none of us can actually see or hear it for ourselves.
Possibly. One I really love, though it is actually about 10 minutes, is Lynard Skynard doing Freebird at Knebworth, England 1976. Its the famous show where they opened for the stones and walked down the special "tongue" walkway/stage set up for the stones and did one of the all time great bits of live guitar work I've ever heard. Also, there are some times when The Grateful Dead were really ON and did something spectacular in improvisation. But this one is probably what I'd personally go with.
Single-handedly the greatest band biopic ever produced. And single-handedly the best movie based concert. I absolutely get chills every time I watch this
He may be American. But I have only seen Rami Malek, play 2 British people, in 2 different British movies. He played Freddie Mercury in this movie of Bohemian Rhapsody. And then he played a British villain, in the last Daniel Craig James Bond movie, of No Time To Die.
@@awesometacularhero I was first introduced to him in the TV show “War at Home“ where he played the super flamboyant next-door neighbor. I remember him also playing King Tut in one of the Night at the Museum films… Remi Malik is ethnically Egyptian, so I guess that role suited him perfectly. I also recently listened to a podcast titled “Blackout” which he was really good in.
The attention to detail in these scenes is amazing. Everything from the way Mercury sang the songs to little things like his adjusting the sound before breaking into “Bohemian Rhapsody” and the half empty Pepsi/beer cups on top of the piano are immaculate. This is a masterclass in cinematography.
They must've changed something, cause a lot of scenes with the camera sucked. Liked when they was talking in a restaurant, and the camera would be pointed to someone, as someone is talking...
The 1 Thing they Didn't Get Right was Rami Maleks Fake Mouth Movements. He Obviously wasn't Singing Live cause His Mouth Movements are All Wrong and Don't Make Sense with the Way Freddie's Singing. if you watch the Real Freddie Sing this in the Footage of the Real Wembley Concert He opens His Mouth a Bit Wider and Shows More Teeth when Singing Bohemian Rhapsody where as Rami dosen't. Rami keeps His Mouth a Little Too Closed to be Actually Making those Same Sounds Vocally and Dosen't Show Enough Teeth.
One detail I found impressive is Freddie not singing the line 'build your muscles as your body decays' when they're performing Hammer to Fall...just like in the actual performance in 1985
@@Kinseliplier Exactly! Freddie just sang with the right vocals, he used resonators and vocal supports. Despite the fact that Freddie did not study vocals, he had them correctly. Rami sings here like a beginner. Nothing to do with proper vocals.
The responsibility of playing this role was colossal, but his performance was majestic.... He was huge, just like Freddie Mercury was.... I think he played the role of his career.... Top 👍👍👍👍
@@DaveFisher-cq2dr it was m8 trouble with the other acts a lot of them tried their new singles queen played all hits and banged out a set that will be with me until i die
BEST REENACTMENT OF ALL TIME. No matter how may times I watch this, it always amazes me. They captured the greatness of QUEEN'S Live Aid Performance with overflowing justice!!! It must be emotional for the band members to see this and wonder what Freddie would think if he ever saw it. Not to mention all the details they put into this scene are ON POINT!!!
yeh compare it to the actual concert alot of things are actually spot on, what got me most was the almost EXACT position of the drinks on top of the piano
I remember seeing this in a packed theater. Everyone was hooked. Everyone cried. Everyone sang along, and everyone clapped at the end. There is only one Freddie Mercury. ❤
Just incase anyone needed it 0:54 Bohemian Rhapsody 3:05 Radio Ga Ga 7:08 Ay-Oh 7:54 Hammer to Fall 12:34 Crazy Little Thing Called Love 16:06 We Will Rock You 17:33 We Are The Champions
ME TOO. Mostly I favored this re-enactment because it was the first day on the set, and WOW he carried on. 😉🤗🥳 Sincerely, Sentebay in L.A., California at 81+ years old.😁
I am 66 years old now and was lucky enough to be there on the day and I have been to loads of live concerts over the years and I can’t recall another performer who could work the crowd like Freddie,
One detail I love is in the long “eh-oh” when it pans to the stadium from the sky you can see a wave thru the crowd as they join in like a sound wave blasting from the stage
I swear you can say whatever the f you want but this concert is just so much better than the ones today. Not because of the special effect. Not because of the atmosphere. But because Freddy was there
He loved having the audience participate in the music. Queen was one of the first bands to really understand that idea, that it was okay for the audience to sing along with the band, that it connects them to the band and the music.
This is the closest thing I’ll ever get to seeing them perform live. They were way before my time but I would have given anything to see them play like this. Long live Freddy🕊️
Yeah, I got to see them 3 times in the 70s and nobody else I've seen even comes close. I've seen some great bands...Zeppelin, Bowie, etc. They just can't hold a candle to Queen & especially Freddie. Today is 32 years ago he was taken & he's still so missed. Freddie, you're my beautiful angel & you and I know why.
Their actual perfprmance is on RU-vid. THAT'S the closest you'll get. As phenomenal as this scene is, it's still a recreation and there's just no way to match it
Crying, I was so happy to be part of this rock generation. I saw them in a small theater early on and the way he danced and twisted his body and with his perfectly matched and totally wonderful perfect musicians. Malik you did him proud. You all did. Thank you ❤
I also saw them early on in a small venue, in 1975 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in Santa Monica, California. Fell madly in love with Freddie and has never wavered. Queen was the best ever live & I've seen some heavy hitters....Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, Rod Stewart. As good as they were, they can't hold a candle to Queen.
Absolutely love this scene it’s bloody brilliant, and to think that this is the first scene they filmed, can you imagine the pressure the actors were under, talk about thrown into the deep end 😂
I love this scene ,love this movie , love everything about it. My 8th grade son had to choose a song from a movie last month, where he had to make a poster (digital or regular. He made a PowerPoint). Had to list composer of song and focus on the technical elements (tempo, melody )mood of the scene and everything in between . So he actually chose this scene right here. He chose to focus more heavily on Bohemian Rhapsody and Radio Ga Ga,. Could’ve chosen 1 song or all but focused on first 2 . but he still captured the mood of that day in his presentation. I was proud that he chose this….he got into this movie because I was playing this movie nonstop, sometimes several times in a day..anyway, sorry to ramble on. Can’t get enough of this.
@@shaneraja5242 thank you so much. He and my daughter are my world. I do whatever I can to make sure they know they’re loved and supported ! I just saw this comment ,or I would have replied sooner. Hope you have a great day !
So pleased that Rami got the recognition he deserved for this performance. The actual performance by Freddie (and the rest of the gang) was incredible. That Rami Malek was able to do it any sort of justice is phenomenal in itself.
0:39, when Freddie pauses..............I believe Gandalf referred to that as "the deep breath before the plunge....." Then, THE MAGIC HAPPENS!!! One of THE GREATEST live performances of all time!!!
I was born at the concert, inside the stadium. It was a wonderful experience that I'll never forget. My mom and dad were not going to miss it for the world, not even my birth.
When I first saw this ending clip of this movie. I was like.. wait, i already watched this somewhere.. even the hand gestures and how he sits in front of the piano.. i said oh my god! This live aid the exact Queen live aid performance! I was screaming the whole time. Totally goosebumps!! 🥹🥹
I was born in 78 and too young and too far away to be attending this historical moment in life. I bet it was one of the greatest moments ever lived for those who experienced it.
Considering the unbelievable vocal talent of the man he was portraying, this was one of the most impressive feats of acting I've ever seen. The amount of talent you need to have in order to sound even close to Freddie is insane.
@@steelslinky9 Anything Freddie had sang they used his recording Marcel sang what Freddie hadnt such as messing up one of the songs I think its only the scene with the cats he sang
I watched the Elvis movie immediately before watching this and without question this movie blew Elvis and any other band biopic out of the water by unforgivable standards. One of the greatest movies of all time without question.
I heard it was heavily dramatized and saturated. And this was the best part of the movie. That ain’t a bad thing, but I’ve heard the movie is trying to hard to shoehorn in the other band members and half of the movie Freddie is dead
@@The-Legend-of-P I would disagree with all of that. Shoehorn the other band members in? That’s silly. The movie is a bio pic of Freddie Mercury, it is kind of important to include Queen.
i loved them... this scene is so amazing!! i felt i was there, in the greatest show, the first actor is unbelieve, strong, so smart... sorry a lot of words.. I LOVED IT!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
My favourite part of the movie is that when he talks to the band before they go on, you can hear Dire Straits blasting Sultans of Swing. I recorded the original concert when it went to air, and this is totally what they would have heard. I still have the old VHS somewhere. I love Dire Straits way more than Queen but their performance was excellent, and they'd been off the radar for a while.
If anyone says this band is not the greatest of all time they are crazy. Not historically accurate but a great movie. Brain May one of the best guitarists of all time. I wish John Deacon would come out for one last performance. Roger Taylor top 10 drummers ever. There are no words for Freddie. Simply great.
I've paid my dues Time after time I've done my sentence But committed no crime And bad mistakes I've made a few I've had my share of sand Kicked in my face But I've come through And we mean to go on and on and on and on We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the World I've taken my bows And my curtain calls You brought me fame and fortune And everything that goes with it I thank you all But it's been no bed of roses No pleasure cruise I consider it a challenge before The human race And I ain't gonna lose And we mean to go on and on and on and on We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the World We are the champions, my friends And we'll keep on fighting till the end We are the champions We are the champions No time for losers 'Cause we are the champions of the World
18:36 you hear those people, they love 'em, and you thought they would never be big or famous, now you must admit you were wrong and they are huge and loved by all
Massive Queen fan, went to see this 9 times in the cinema. Best biopic movie ever. From start to finish loved every minute and watching this scene in full instead of the edited version in the movie even spectacular
Just watched the original concert, and they absolutely nailed it in the film, to be honest I think this is better, just the way they created the atmosphere ❤ it
I love myself a long movie. In fact, longer movies are my favorite type. So I'm glad we get the whole performance here. Wouldn't have minded this to be in the original theatrical cut.
Watched this movie so many times. It’s just as good each time. It fills me with awe but at the same time sadness for the great spirit that was Freddie Mercury, the heart and soul of Queen. Wish he was on earth longer. Gone way too soon.
When Freddie (Malek) played the audience, I feel like the movie displayed the group in awe, and the participation of the audience so much better than what the camera technology would allow at the time. Because any recording of this just doesn't capture the sentimental values that the audience experienced (ofc, because it wasn't able to), but it so good to see it in the movie.
I was alive in the 80s. I didn't hear about this until the 90s because that's when Wayne's World revitalized the popularity of Queen. No internet. No social media.
I remember live aid...the artist weren't sure about it and some of the acts were like the local country fare.... Then this happened...Queen hadn't been around for a while...so the put on a simple world tour grade medly of there hits...and for the next 25 minutes...Queen ruled the word..
Too be fair, at the time, I thought we going to half oftheir show time of Bohemian Rhapsody alone, it was good how they cut in real lift after the first bit.
