In my opinion, the scene between the teenager that has Kaposi’s sarcoma on his face and Freddie is not only a connection between the two, but also symbolic: Freddie has just found out that he has AIDS and his time on Earth is limited. Him walking towards the light is almost like he’s accepted his fate and ready to pass on, like he’s ready to go whenever; however, the teenager singing, “Ay-oh” to him is a wake-up call back to reality and a way of conveying to Freddie that he still has more to give with the unknown amount of time he has left.
The saddest part of the movie is when the guy who is dying of AIDS in the corridor of the AIDS hospital says to him: "eo", and Freddie, who has just found out that he is going to die, says "eo" back to him
I grew up in the 60s and really didn't give Queen much attention, other than knowing some of their songs. Then I saw the recent movie Bohemian Rhapsody. The guy who played the part of Freddie was phenomenal. Since then I've been listening to Queen's music and can understand why they had such a huge following. I give the movie five stars.
I can’t imagine what it must be like knowing that if you have AIDS literally anything as small as a common cold could kill you because of how fragile your immune system is. The anxiety, the stress and paranoia. And today there’s still no true way to combat AIDS, we still don’t know exactly what to do
Better meds are being developed. It's much easier to live a full life with HIV, as long as you can keep your viral load undetectable. You need to take your meds (one or a few pills a day) but your chances are much better than in the eighties. But prevention is still the best defense.
The part where the teenager says "Eh-Oh" as Freddie walks past him has to be THE most wholesome moment in the entire movie. AIDS was looked at as an immediate death sentence from simply just Touching a person infected with it. This point in time, there was not a lot of research done on it. All the rhetoric that spread only linked it with Gays, and made the gay community that much more taboo. You can tell this teenager really felt seen and understood. Though he may not have immediately known what Freddie was there for, but to see a beloved global celebrity in the same hospital as you, possibly going through the same emotional stress as you, and then have that celebritiy's rhythmic catchphrase repeated back to you as a sign of Hope.... has got to feel pretty damn good and encouraging.
This is just so sad I shed a tear or 2 it was just so sad and heartbreaking and the song In the background “who wants to live forever” just simply tear jerking u will always live in our hearts Fred
Por suerte hoy en dia el vih es como tener diabetes, nadie se muere de eso. Si, debes tener controles constantes para ver tu salud, pero puedes llevar una vida sana y larga. Incluso puedes tener hijos.
I remember a scene from Rocket Man where Renata who was once Elton John's wife she said that she had a friend in the hospital who has AIDS they said it was called Gay cancer the poor guy had so many sores in his mouth that he couldn't eat anymore and they even said that the AIDS was an epidemic in New York even Elton John was scared of this but the craziest thing is he went to a doctor to see if he was contracted with AIDS but it turns out as crazy as it sounds he got so lucky he didn't get it he was tested negative but unfortunately he knew so many people who didn't make it and yes he knew Freddie Mercury he was there at his funeral it's a real shame what AIDS can do but it's so stupid how someone can just experiment with something and use it as an outbreak look at what's happened with the covid-19 pandemic so many people are gone my aunt was tested with a mild case of it and she got through it thank the Lord she did my step grandmother she had covid but the craziest thing is as a great as a miracle as it is the Lord protected her I wish I could say that this pandemic was over but people nowadays are too paranoid to take off a mask but if we keep washing our hands and we keep our distance from people who have the masks on and we learn to cover our mouths when you sneeze then we'll be okay and even those who didn't take the vaccines so many of them have gotten through it I've gotten the vaccine two years ago and I have done well and now I can be with my family and I can finally hang out with my friends but it wasn't the vaccine that did all that it was God that got me through it and I praise him again
It bothers me that they don't make any mention of Queen making the Highlander soundtrack, and how this song was made for it, about immortals. It wasn't about Freddy dealing with dying at all.
I understand what you mean. Freddie apparently wasnt diagnosed with HIV until 1987, after Live Aid and after Highlander and I was Brian May that wrote the song. There is common misconception that Freddie vwrote it about himself suffering from AIDs, which is totally untrue. However its very poignant for the movie.
While you are correct, it does however foreshadow what would eventually happen to Freddie Mercury in a very poignant way perfectly, its such a beautiful song it was absolutely perfect for this scene!
Movie only deals with events from the formation of the band until Live Aid. The things you're mentioning happend 2 years later after Live Aid. It makes no sense to mention those things.
Despite the cap and sunglasses, the boy recognizes Freddie. He is by any evidence in an advanced stadium of AIDS, so Freddie’s reply is both a sign of resignation about his fate, and maybe a last “gift” to a young fan who had the “lucky” chance to meet his idol.
Yeah, but with ART you can live as long as a person without HIV (almost). Yes, you have to check your health sometimes, but overall you are good. You can have kids, you can expect to live until 70 or more (depends of how you take care of yourself). It is a bad decease, but you can live a “normal life”.
Fun fact, all the songs of Queen heard in the movie only go up to the date of Live Aid (1984). Who wants to live forever is the only song in this movie that surpasses that date (released in 1986). Also the chronology is off in this scene. When Freddie is walking in the hallway and one the patients says "eeh yo" he could not have know that because chronologically in the movie live aid still had to happen in which Freddie does his famous "eeh yo". It was not a famous trademark of Freddie before Live Aid.
Freddie had done Ey Oh numerous times before Live Aid too. And also, this could be to say where Freddie got the idea from? Kind of like O-bla-di O-bla-da by the Beatles.
