As someone who has similar hair to this (3a/b thin hair) this won't pull too much hair out? I want to try this but I'm afraid that my hair will tear out
Your hair would be more susceptible to damage yes so you have to be sure not to Braid it too tight and also don't manipulate it a lot styling it in tight updos and such.
If you are going to crochet the top then you may as well crochet everything. Not sure the front could be crochet and the back individuals..it's usually the other way around

It's a nice hairstyle but nothing was done in particular for her thin hair. Lots a huge gaps when looking down at the crown. I would not want this style for my thin hair It just highlights the thinness.
