From the first day I heard some of the songs of the Italo Disco genre from the early eighties, I fell in love with that music. Thanks to the Internet, I managed to create a huge collection of hits from that time, which I still listen to every day. And now sometimes I discover a new song that I like after so many years...Thanks to everyone who contributed to our enjoyment of these wonderful songs

So very thankful living in the NYC/NJ metro area in the '70s & '80s and going to the Paradise Garage (NYC) & Club Zanzibar in Newark, NJ where I heard these "Italo-Disco" records for the first time. Yes, going to Vinylmania, High Tech on Bleeker St., Downtown Music on Worth St., Downstairs Records on 42nd St, or Rock-N-Soul on 37th St., shopping for music you heard at those clubs, and discovering new music. There was a period between the end of Disco and the beginning of Chicago House that seems to be forgotten. To counterpoint Chip E's assessment, Dance (formerly called Disco) Music did not stop between those periods. I believe this is what the UK calls the "boogie" era. Funk-based, Soulful, 99bpm to 115bpm, the Patrick Adams, Greg Carmichael, Kenton Nix, Andre Booth, Jacques Fred Petrus, the Reid brothers from Crown Heights Affair contributed heavily to that "boogie" sound. It was the sophisticated funk of New York and was still being produced and getting played when Chicago House began to surface in those aforementioned venues. It wasn't House Music all night long...it was EVERYTHING all night long. Italo-Disco, UK Jazz Funk, German & US-based Electro Funk, NY 4/4 Funk & uptempo R&B/Soul and classics in all tempos. Even New Wave/Rock & some Reggae. YES!!! It was a diverse musical ride they took you on...a beautiful love story with all its emotive attributes.

You completely are on point bc I was a young teen in chicago '81 & '82, I would go out every night at all the top discos then... the first time I remember hearing Klein & mbo "dirty talk" the DJ (name unknown), he mixed "dirty talk" & , ESG's "Moody" together, then from there he'd jump in to Nick Straker's "Straight Ahead"...no matter which club or DJ I was dancing to in chicago in '81 & '82, whether a proper disco nightclub, a rollerrink, a bar or a private warehouse party, all the DJ's would play & blend & mix many different tempos & styles together! I'm just so grateful I was there at that incredibly powerful period in chicago's clubscene 😘💕 from San Francisco 🎶💕🎶 Carla Funk aka DJ Housewife 🎶🎵

@@carlaestrada1201 I wish I had experienced at that time Chicago's nightlife, but communication is not like it is today, there was no way of me knowing what was going on there, If I did, trust me I would have gone. We were so immersed in NY/NJ club culture living in here in the northeast and NY being the Disco/Dance capital of the world, and being in the thick of it as it was happening, we were oblivious to what was going on elsewhere b/c the scene was so strong, the weekends were NOT to be missed.

@@clubhead433 hi again, yes, I hear you! Had I known clubs like Zanz & the Garage & the Funhouse & the Gallery & the Loft were going on in your area, well, I would've made certain to attend! Plus I'm sure there were countless other great clubs/parties! I'm curious, about what was the size of Zanz? Small, medium or large? Alot of folks ask me if I ever went to the original Warehouse in chicago back in '81 but it just wasn't on my radar as a 14 yo in '81...I did go w/an older, gay person of color friend in '81 or '82 to Chicago's infamous Power Plant. But only one time & it was a small, warehouse style space one flight of stairs to climb from the street BUT unfortunately we went during the day when the club was closed! Haa! But I seem to recall there was still music being played by a black DJ fellow, perhaps he was practicing for the coming night?? All I know is his beats we're bumpin' & at least I can say I was inside the notorious Power Plant!! Many times I lived & danced in some lesser known but very fun clubs/bars in '81/'82 such as the Century Disco, Rainbow Rollerrink, AKA bar, COD (R. Hardy played there), Jenal's, Medusa's, Neo, Exit ,& so many other places I can't remember the names of now! Again, just grateful I experienced those particular years there. 🎵

First time I heard Italia disco was 1983. Midnight Express from the nwa would use it as entrance music. I was already listening to gary newman and I was 6 when I got his album. Then new order after that. Then before ya know it derrick may is playing records at parties in my loft. Electronic music is pretty worldly and magnetic.

Boiler Room - this is great you guys did a documentary on the history or Dance Music / Disco, but you guys did a documentary on Italo Disco before you did one on the heart - where it really hopped off - NYC! (and other states too like Philly).. that’s the original Disco. Like one of those Italo producers said in this doc - some of NYC came to Italy. That’s where they got their inspiration. It would be great to see a documentary on that - The NYC scene in the late 70’s early 80’s - WBLS.. Downtown Records.. Paco.. Frankie Crocker.. Latin Rascals.. the artists and DJ’s and clubs from that era - NYC sh* or sh* in the States.

Right, Italo Disco, like House music is just Disco music but with synth sounds instead is acoustics. House came about because Chicagoans were able to aquire synthesizers and beat machines from pawn shops and second hand stores. The difference between Italo Disco and House is that the Italians had access to the synthesizer first. And Chicagoans had to deal with shady record companies, who slowed down progress for Chicago talent

IMO, legendary groups/producers of Italo Disco are as follows: Giorgio Moroder, La Bianda, Easy Going, Tantra, Change, The Passengers, Macho, Revanche, Ken Lazlo, Klein & MBO, Peter Jacques Band, Bravo, Kano, Vivien Vee, and Lama. Check out these groups from the past if you haven't heard their recordings. My favorite of them all would have to be Giorgio Moroder's productions.

It is really well done but looks like a great apetizer without the rest of the meal. Also, It shows the cleanest side of those productions... Only the record shop owner interviewed goes there for 10 seconds when he shows some underground 12"s. It gets messy, i promise!
