Wonderful performance. It is important to note that the original madrigal music this interpretation is based on is by Cipriano de Rore (Cyprien de Ronse) on a poem by Alfonso D'Avalos, "Ancor che col partire". D'Avalos, marquis of Pescara and Vasto, led armies to war on behalf of Charles V against the French in various occasions, so the theme of this poem - departure and return - is all the more poignant. We don't know any other poem by him, but his adoptive mother was Vittoria Colonna, also a poet, and friend of Michelangelo.
