It doesn't always have something to do with selfishness. I can tell you that in large family businesses with several generations it is always a problem when the head of the family makes decisions for too long - which the others cannot accept. A generation change is always difficult in such companies, but the old generation also has to understand at some point when it is time to hand over the helm to the next generation.

@@Shycrochetqueen It's one thing not to like someone, but at least you can be civil, especially in the workplace. I believe Eric's children with Stephanie were all victims of parental alienation. Stephanie brainwashed them all. Eric/Donna happened not too long after Stephanie's recklessness ended up with Brooke (the mother of two of Eric's children) being raped. This was after a long list of duplicitous things that Stephanie had done throughout the show and throughout Eric/Stephanie's marriage. Yet, to hear the adult kids tell it, Donna was some mid-life crisis affair that broke up their parents' happy marriage. Eric simply left their poor mother for a younger woman like some letch. No, it was Eric finally having enough of a wife he couldn't trust, who was ruthless and miserable and making other people's lives that way, too. They had every reason in the world to mistrust Donna because of what she did to Thorne, but again, be civil. She was still their father's wife and they were still at work, their so-called legacy. Yet, they diminished it everyday they made the workplace toxic, not to mention they disrespected their father by acting that way toward his chosen wife. Mature people can still love and respect both parents after a divorce, even when one of them committed adultery. Between adultery and setting someone up to be raped, I know which one I'd have a harder time forgiving.
