and in the last 50 years you think hes the number one guitarist in the world...out of All the guitarists in the world...as I stated "highly overated" ...criminally overrated .
well Idont rely on a filthy bloody tampon like "Rolling Stone" magazine to think for Me. Criteria....skill...tone...how many albums and years rockin and intertaining...influence...again skill and technical ability...quality of recordings and studio work...good long careers has got to be one...being an absolute baddass on guitar. Now Hendrix was awesome but never graduated from phsycodelic hippy music and also didnt set any inovations in the studio or in music. He died in a bathtub on a heroin overdose shortly after His career began....LOOSERRR !!! Had He lived and grown as a guitar player and writer He would have no doubt been higher on My list but to label Him number one above all the really awesome guitarists over the last 50 years is just stupid. IMO.
I mean its a classic argument. Like Michael Jordan being the GOAT. Or Jackson Pollack's art being some of the most valuable art work of all time but "my 3 yr old paints better than Pollack" type shit...its not just about a popularity contest tho, its about the art...personally to me Jimi is one of my top favorites cuz I really feel his music...but we all know he wasn't as "technically talented" as some of the modern players are now (maybe he would be now idk) but for his time he was way advanced. I think he is "the best" because his music has touched so many people and his discography and persona is ICONIC. What he did for guitar is like what Orson Wells did for film. They paved the way for modern times. Dunno, is Jordan the GOAT? Einstein? Van Gough? Nicola Tesla? Is it opinion or based on some measurable factors?
Hedrix was ok...but highly over-rated. He would be in My top one hundred, but not My too seventy five. Theres just too many guitarists who have had longer better careers than Hendrix, really good guitarists that would smoke Hendrix in five seconds. Robin Trower does what Hendrix did but Hes been doing it for sixty years...hasnt died of a drug overdose in a bathtub yet.
But Robin Trower...as good as he is...has nothing like the back catalogue of memorable, iconic songs that Hendrix wrote and recorded, nor did he originate anything. The clue's in your own comment: "Robin Trower does what Hendrix did..." It's not all about guitar technique and longevity. Where is Trower's Little Wing, or Axis, or Castles Made of Sand, Voodoo Child etc. etc. etc.? Please don't say Bridge of Sighs or Day of the Eagle...they're nice but not in the same league as Hendrix!
