Wow, what an interesting story! I loved seeing Boldt Castle. I can't believe it was vacant for 73 years. So glad they are fixing it up now. Hope to visit it sometime! Thanks for taking us there!!

In 1974, my husband (then boyfriend) and I were members of a marching group that traveled summers to march in parades. The summer of ‘74 we had performed in that area of New York. As a side trip, the group visited Heart Island and Boldt Castle. My memory is somewhat ’foggy’, but as I recall, everything was still as it had been left. We actually could look down the incomplete elevator shaft, which was filling up with inconsiderate tourists trash, get right close to the bowling lanes, and basically all areas of the unfinished castle. It’s been a dream of mine to revisit the island since. Thank you Sheila and Todd making my dream a “virtual” reality 🥰

What a FUN adventure! Thanks for sharing this. I love touring historical homes. I can also relate to running for the last boat, bus, train, when you are completely fascinated with a place. Been there, done that, many times! I know you left the west coast states off your year plan, maybe you have already been, but you would LOVE Hearst Castle in San Simeon, CA. Completely unique and gorgeous with tons of history. One of my favorite places. The views!!

I was there roughly 35 years ago as a kid. It is the one place I want to go back to. At that time they were working on the pool. Amazing place.

We were in the Thousand Islands area of NY a few months ago and stayed at a Harvest Host - Thousand Islands Winery. Really beautiful area of NY

Boldt Castle sounds neat. That is a place we will be taking our rig to Thousand Island NY. If you guys are ever in the Newport RI area you should tour the Mansions there. That's also really neat. Enjoy.

We just were there in june. Stayed at campground in Henderson Ny called sun outdoors. Campground was on its own island and we surrounded by lake ontario/Henderson bay…. Beautiful going back in 2022. Had a great time. We went to alxandria bay while there. Did tour of casrles on American side unfortunately canada border was still closed due to pandemic so fingers when we go back 2022 border is open.

You are near us! We have been to the Boldt Castle many times, and we camp at Watkins Glen KOA. Did you happen to camp at Association Island in Henderson Harbor? It is a beautiful campground on a private Island, near the Thousand Islands. Becky and Charlie

In 2017, we did the cruise from Gananoque, Ontario (Canada) to Bolt Castle. It was such a beautiful experience! Gananoque is also beautiful to visit !

Glad you enjoyed NYS so much. You must have driven so close to us in the Rochester area to get there. I haven't been to Boldt Castle in many years, looks like I need to revisit. NYS is just so much more than NYC, it's amazing how many people ask about The Big Apple when we say where we are from. I haven't been there in years, it's 7 hours away, lol. We went for a week to Thousand Islands. Stayed on the Lawrence River 20 years ago. Loved Bolt Castle. Take the boat tour its amazing. We love Alexandra Bay. Its a quaint town. Thanks for the memories.

We are originally from the finger lakes region of CNY, but moved to TX for work 30 yrs ago. Even after rving around the country, CNY is still the most beautiful area. Would move our home base there in a minute if not for the snowy winters. So glad you are exploring the area!

I used to cross the border on I-81 at Lansdowne On. going to different places in the province of Quebec . The winters are brutal there because of the lake effect snow. But it is beautiful the rest of the year.

When our kids were young we camped in the 1,000 islands many times. It is just awesome!!! 🤗 I have a question? Sometimes I watch the commercials that pop up on your videos but if it is something that does not interest me, or if I am on a time crunch I will not. Do you get paid more if I watched the commercials all the way through and less or nothing if I hit the skip button right away? I ask because I pay nothing to travel with you and if me watching the commercial all the way through benefits you and your channel I would watch them all just to support your efforts. I'm from NY. Always referred to this place as Broken Heart Island. Never went there because he never finished it. You should check out the old mansions along the Hudson River Valley. Then make your way over to Newport, RI. (with some stops along the way) Thanks for making this video.

We stumbled across this 10 years ago. What a gem. We didn't know a bout this area. I do want to go back. Did you buy any of the Thousand Islands dressing? It is not the same as Thousand Island dressing found on the grocery store. It is white and really good!
