This documentary was filmed on a walk along the Sakri River, Chhattisgarh, India. Starting from Kariyama Village in Dist. Kawardha and finishing at Darhi Village, Dist. Bemetara approx. 90km from the origin of the river to the end merger point. Initiated to document the river and life of the riparian community of Sakri River, the film attempts to amplify the voices and concerns of the river people, woven together through the medium of the walk, and the river culture besides.
“Five years ago, we started with a small dream. The dream was that if people united and worked as one, Chhattisgarh would become drought-free with Clean Water recourses. In 2017, more than three hundred Schools, Colleges, and villages were working to become water-abundant. By 2019, start walking beside rivers and workshop programs to connect rural and urban areas to join the movement. People worked relentlessly and shattered gender, politics, class, religion, and caste barriers. Moving forward, we envision a future where Chhattisgarh’s citizens can create the life of their dreams; where we can restore our environment and ensure greater financial security.
The documentary film will now take center stage in Meer Foundation’s continued advocacy and educational efforts on issues related to the rivers of India. This project would not have been possible without the generous support of hundreds of friends, strangers, and partners who supported our campaigns and shared their knowledge, resources, and connections. But most of all, it is the people of the river who made this film possible with their stories and provided food, shelter, and warmth without hesitation.
