Man I miss footy like this - kids sitting on the roof of the stand, old stadium, muddy pitches and a proper atmosphere....it's all so sanitised and corporate these days.
I think even then this was treated as a 'throwback' sort of game. The opening shot of the kids on the brickwork seems deliberate to evoke that feeling. Besides nothing post-1992 can be described as pre-corporate!
First game me and my dear mum went to, being Boltoners but United fans (sat in the Bolton News End as away supporters) I am so glad this is on RU-vid having lost her 6-months ago I can re-live that game knowing we were there together. Remember just looking at Schmeichel most of the match wanting to be him. Fabulous memories and great game. Burnden Park sorely missed too loved hearing the crowd when I was a kid when me and my mates playing out near the ground.
Hopefully, now you understand why England have not won anything since 1966. They got a lot of very good players, but they don't know how to build a winning team.
@@yanikg-force they don't have enough technically good players .Bruce was an example of the problem at international level.Dont get me wrong he was a good club player but that is it
I was in Burnden terrace stood next to a couple of American tourists who somehow got tickets. They were absolutely shitting themselves all the way through the match at the sheer hostility! No popcorn here folks! 😂
I was at this game, we didnt even see the start. We went to the fencing made some gestures to Bolton fans and promptly got chucked out. 3 of us ended up in an Indian near the ground listening to it on the radio and then snuck into the bolton end for the last 10 minutes after they opened their gates. What a fcuk up of a day that was....we won though :)
@@leonskum.5682 oh well. At least you stayed and supported to the end. Well done for doing that. I remember some Burnley fans leaving Turf Moor after 8 minutes when they were 3-0 down to Manchester City 10 years ago.
I know the pitches are better now, I know the players are fitter and the football is quicker when it gets going but man, I miss the days of proper end to end football.
Remember watching this on SKY TV the early years of the Premier League were brilliant when English football was still finding its feet to compete on the European stage
tan hock jun The determination of these players is just unbelievable ! I didn't see that back then, but if you look now at van Gaal's players they're much worse than this fantastic team.
I would like to thank the jealous Bolton fan who spat some of his burger over me as I walked to the UNITED fans turnstile before the match. After travelling the country and a large part of the world watching UNITED , I can honestly say the funniest thing I've ever seen at a football game was when a Bolton player but the ball in the net but Schmeichel just stood there as it was obviously offside by several yards (as they were then). This didn't stop a large group of Bolton boys to our left celebrating wildly although 3 down before that. The free kick was taken midway inside UNITEDS half. The Bolton boys carried on. And on. To this day I'm convinced some of the burger wasters still think the score was 1-6. Perhaps they know more of the rules now if they've attended a second or third match.. 👹
I was in the Bolton end this day. Got a ticket outside from the City tout who's no longer with us and th Bolton lot were baying for blood all day. Unfortunately for them, we were a bit good on and off the pitch so they never got their wish.
Good Christ that first almost goal by Giggs, it’s amazing to me how he’s not admired more as a world class winger in his youth than simply someone who had a lot of club success. Fucks sake.
I know Bolton were bottom at the time, but this game really was the moment for the young United side. Could've had 9 or 10. Gave extra confidence ahead of the next game against Newcastle.
I was there. "You'll never play us again" was another. What a laugh. For those who don't understand your quotes the old stadium had a Supermarket within one of the stands. If my memory serves me right I think it was a Sainsburys. GGMU. LUHG.
What was funny to us United fans was that Bolton actually thought they were a rival of ours. Don't get me wrong they are not the only club who are misguided enough to think we give a flying F*** what they think, but nevertheless it's amusing. United's ARCH rivals are LiVARpool, City and when they eventually get back into the PL, The Scum from Bellend Road. However atm it's only LiVARpool and City. Atm we don't have a massive rivalry with Arsenal, Everton, Spurs or Chelsea and never really have apart from maybe a decade from 1994-2004 with the Gooners and a couple of years with Chelsea.
The 1st goal in this game is very similar to a goal Manchester United scored against Crystal Palace in 1991/92- check out first divison goals November 30th/December 1st on RU-vid.
+Mark Smith stick Kevin Nolan in your search box. Or going further back Frank Worthington, or Nat Lofthouse. You haven't always had it all your own way with us - though granted this day you had us every way you wanted
Such a sad demise the state of bwfc, I used to enjoy our games with bolton, I'm a Manchester born Red but have a strong bolton connection through family, certainly didn't have it our own way during the big Sam era.. This proud club needs to bounce back, too good to be languishing at near the foot of division 4,(league 2)..
gip150983 this was played in late Feb 1996. Bolton relegated later that season but promoted straightaway the following season (1996/1997) which was their final season at Burnden Park (now an Asda store) before moving to Horwich (Reebok/Macron/University Of Bolton Stadium).
