Finest town in the North of England. Folk used to come from all over for shopping and amenities. Even Manchester seemed far away cos there was no need to go there. Heartbreaking to see what has hapoened to us. The council pedal out a food festival and Ironman every year in answer to criticism of their inept mismanagement, but the fact is theyre papering over cracks that get wider and wider as the years go by. Shocking.
I grew up in St Helens Road, just a bit further down the road to where the car turns off into Hulton Lane. A bit strange seeing the area here in the footage. Just left after turning into Hulton Lane there used to be a chippy run by an Italian and his British wife. I reckon they made the best chips in Bolton. The bus used to terminate here before returning back to the town centre. That was all a very long time ago now when Bolton was a great place to live in and visit. I moved abroad 40 years ago and have never looked back, but I'm appalled all the same at what has been made of this lovely town since then.
