To clarify, jet set radio DID get a sequel that fixed most problems with the gameplay called "jet set radio future" on the original Xbox. Some of BRC's blemishes come from JSRF, but overall it improves on JSRF.
3:09 that's like, part of the charm though. zoom-out shots like that are super early 2000s, and are a nice throw-back to older platformer games. personally they didn't annoy me at all.
Sometimes Red also shouts out "Vet!" when doing like some grind trick or running across billboards. Literally translated it means "grease" or "fat" even, but in this context it basically means something like "Cool!"
I think the combat is on point and fun sometimes. When i got first chased by the turret it was amazing. Also after all it's about roaming around with style and don't gaf about police
it's still eh for me, like there are cool things you can do in combat and it's makes for fun cinematic moments and even for camera picks, but it does get old after a while where I just end up going to the nearest available portal potty
@@giga_charge I agree, the turret is the best part of the combat in my opinion, even when I watch the official gameplay trailer I thought these things were gonna be tough to avoid and seemed scary at times, but actually confronting them wasn't that bad. They are still great though, more enemies like this would have been great
@@Thonato420 Could have been worse, could have been like the old JSR encounters with the cops. Plus honestly styling on enemies and then spray painting them to establish dominance is dope
this game is such a banger, it's like tony hawks but more accessible the movement techs arent really taught to you (eg jumping after a kick gives you a boost and gives you a chance to instakill enemies) but after learning them it's really fun the bosses arent forgettable methinks, fighting a second time makes it so much funner I think the combat is alot better then it seems but it never teaches you how to make the combat fun solace is an icon, imagine being claustrophobic but also being a masochist
Should mention jet set radio did actually get a sequel… exclusively for the original xbox and isn’t a available through backwards compatibility It’s a shame cause the soundtrack is better, the graphics are better, the gameplay mechanics are WAY better and it goes from level based to semi open world (with loading screens between areas) , and most of the stuff in brc is coming from this game (Jet Set Radio Future) There also have been leaks suggesting sega is working on a new jet set radio, however there’s a very high chance it’s gonna be a live service game, and I don’t think any jsr fans would like that
I never played Jet Set, but I've played a lot of Tony Hawk growing up (you could say too much). I'm picking it up full price because Team Reptile is awesome (their other game Lethal League is recommended), and they got the original composer for Jet Set to make music for both of their games. Maybe not game of the year, but definitely a contender for soundtrack of the year.
theres actually a better approach to combat where you jump after a trick to send an enemy airborne and it will prompt you to do a graffiti mid combat to eliminate multiple enemies. its something you discover after messing with the combat for a few minutes which apparently you failed to do lmao
The game reminds me of dmc or bayonetta (character action games) where in it gives you a fuck ton of options and moves, and its up to you to find your own fun by using it in ways not really intended tbh. But except with dmc and bayo being the sum of their enemies (cause even with dmc gameplay, your game can suck if the enemies are unfun (dmc4)) bomb rush is the sum of its levels. And how you choose to style and interact with the levels with your deep toolbox of tricks, mobility, meter, etc. Its really fun for a character action game that focuses on movement than combat.
Pretty negative recommendation? Also the way you're supposed to deal with enemies is try and hit a bunch of them at once, then jump after doing a hit to launch them into the air--and then you spray paint them to take out the whole group. It doesn't add a ton of depth but it is more satisfying than slowing down to kick them a few times, and you can dispatch groups without ever breaking combo if you're good enough, which can be fun.
This review did not pass the vibe check. Blud also didnt even know about Jet Set Radio Future. Says to try new games to prevent things from getting stale. More or less shits on new and refreshing game. Cant tell if this is his style of trolling but his video so whatever.
one of the biggest crimes in this game is not explaining the mechanics properly, personally I don't mind but it's very frustrating to see a review that doesn't understand the nuances of the game, plays wrong, and calls bad.
Yeah, I think I like that though. Having a variety of moves from the beginning and not knowing how to use them yet they are there, similar to a game like odyssey. But I agree it does teach you in a poor way where they reveal things slowly over time where odyssey had the Guide book that taught you everything right then and there
yep, he clearly wasnt reading the combat tutorials because this video is outright false in that aspect. when reviewers make mistakes like that it makes me question how valuable their reviews can really be
Personally never checked out Jet Set Radio but been interested in this since it was announced. Plus Lethal League n Blaze are some of my favorite games so Team Reptile doesn't disappoint
honestly the only real problem I have is the way you kinda written off the story might just be me but honestly, it really didn't feel that "silly" to me (although I do understand it to a extent) it's a little goofy but it's actually pretty interesting, honestly I'm just disappointed how there's just not really much resolution. I don't really know how to explain it but going "all city" by the end just didn't really feel too accomplishing as a whole. but for the most part they did fairly well, especially considering their last game was LLB which had a saddening lack of. though I definitely gotta say that the police are definitely the worst part of the game, as they make doing it's MAIN GIMMICK of DOING TRICKS AND SKATING ARONUD super annoying, especially when you're just trying to tag a few places and you get like a 3 second cutscene in between each one due to the heat mechanic edit: and also bugs, I encountered a fair few more than I feel like I should have encountered considering a lot of them just come from the maps themselves
4:20 Oh they think they are so cheeky making a map like that. If you never knew, MGS 2 had a skateboarding demo in the special version of the game, and they let you do it on the Big Shell. This is a direct reference to that.
@@AltKaxREAL So the basic Sonic detractor NPC type "comedy", none of these people are capable of critical thinking and it really shows in this guy's review lol
This is going to come off way harsher than I mean it to sound but it seems like most of your critizism seems to come from the fact that you dont know how to play the game becuase you skipped dialogue that explains how certain things work... combat is not nearly as simple as you make is seem (perhaps you exadurated intentionally for comedic effect, but if so, that is extraordinarily disingenuous). Yes it IS the average "mash this button over and over and do a combo" type of combat, but if you press the button as slow as you were then you will just to the same attack over and over again. They explain that there are multiple combat buttons that have their own combos and effects. Additionally you can dash into enemies, jump and then do a spray combo on them as a finisher. Other combos can end in spray finishers. The problem is that the game explains this in the "boring dialogue" that you most likely skipped lol.
To be fair I found out you could just hit and jump to activate the spray function instantly taking them out so in some ways Combat is pointless and to their own whether they enjoy or not, plus it's not the main point of the game and doesn't really force you at all so that's good
honestly I don't really find it dumb or annoying at all. it's pretty fucking awesome in my opinion. you lost your head, and youre gonna go and get it back! like that's sick as hell!!
I kinda get the cutscene thing, but for the gang stuff for example it's just a small scene of the character breaking it down to indicate where they are on the map after you've painted a certain quantity of graffiti and got enough rep. In my experience I didn't feel like they interrupted the flow of the game, it's just a little "Oh nice, there they are" to then keep going.
The Jet Set Radio Fans are loving this game btw, me being one of them. A lot of the stuff pointed out as weird is exactly the kind of charm that JSR and it's Xbox reimagining are all about, this game could've come out as a Ps3 launch game if Sony weren't a bunch of assclowns who cared about realism. Now you might be asking ""Why should I listen to a random commenter who just sorta repeats what Foe is saying" I thoroughly enjoyed Balan Wonderworld so you know I got taste and can formulate my own opinions.
This game clicks with me a ton like I know it’s not perfect but for me personally it’s a goty contender. But my biggest problems are that there’s no dance spot in the hub so you have to go into a level to change characters, and also the toilets where you change your costume lock after using them?? It limits you on how many times you can change your color alt it’s so dumb.
i feel like "the story is ridiculous because things in it can't logically" happen is an odd take to me, even if you did enjoy the story. like, i'm not sure goofy/over the top was prioritized so much as what would be cool and fun for players/people making it. not saying ur interpretation is wrong or your opinion is invalid, it just feels like not really getting what they were going for
@@derple8524 It demolished the AAA industry by doing everything they don't do. 1. Hyper realistic graphics and realism? Nah, let's make it look like a comic book and have everything move to the music! 2. Overhype the fans with a bunch of trailers across a couple years? Nah, announce the game 1 hour before release and have the game spread via word of mouth. _It fucking worked._ And that's just to name a few.
Bomb rush is a game which your enjoyment of is going to be reliant on if your a pre-existimg JSR fan. If your not its still a good time, obviously, its a good game. But if your a JSR fan the BRC is exactly what you have wanted to scratch the itch since JSRF came out. Like its far from perfect and its even "lacking" features from future in some ways... but like its more JSR, whos gonna complain
Hey I don't know if you still are reading comments on a two week old video on your second channel, but I'd highly recommend you revisit the game. The combat isn't revolutionary, but I think you missed a key feature of it. You can hit police with air tricks if you hit a trick button right after you jump which oneshots them if you tag them with E. If you tag them with a design you haven't used in the area yet you get some extra boost too. Speaking of boost, I saw you seriously underutilizing boost in the example footage. It's a huge part of the game and to get the most enjoyment and freedom from the movement I'd try to use it more. I know that boost is bound to shift by default, but I find that binding it to V or something else you can press with your thumb is better, cause manuals are bound to ctrl, which is right by the boost button, making it hard to swap between boosting and keeping your combo on the ground. I'd also recommend playing with the boost movement combined with manuals more, because jumping into a boost, into a jump boost, into a manual on the ground is such a fun way to get around and I felt like you were kind of limiting your movement in such a movement heavy game. I know that's a stupid amount to consider, especially with you already having beaten the game and all, but I just thought I'd point some things out about the game that made my experience more enjoyable than it sounded like yours was.
2:00 - I actually thought the story was more interesting than a lot of AAA game plots. I also didn't have nearly the annoyance issues you had with cutscenes. For me, the vast majority of the game was actual gameplay, with a few quick cutscenes here and there at story points.
5:28 Yeah the fighting mechanics aren't explained well or at all You're suppose to make a Combo and then make a Jump that will AOE your nearest Enemy in the Aird and you can Grafitti them instantly KOing them, Hell you don't even have to hit them just make a ground combo like you're doing tricks and then jump near them to fling them up in the Air. It's Kinda fun once you figure it out you can even Combo it with your usual traversal tricks
is it bad to say i like brc more than jsr? i feel like it does everything better besides the music honestly , jsr is a lot more janky and less refined than brc
I didn't think the story was dumb... Spoilers: in the future we can replicate a mind well enough that robots can dream. But bodies are full of little fiddly bits and fine motor controls, so when you end up with a braindead body, they put a cyberhead on, though one of the oldheads confirm those with terminal disease sometimes transfer their memories before the procedure. So some of them are full AIs and some literally descend from the human who's body parts give them form. Thats why Escher gives you a hard time about wanting Faux's head, because if you were an AI, you'd be killing yourself to reaattach it. I think that's pretty cool, even if they make you work for lore lol. Since you're actually from the inspiration though, does NE have any cities built on top of old intact buildings? Players have found some underground stuff that makes me think a little of old Seattle under the new one.
