Hard disagree - the modern version pays homage to the old in many non obvious ways. Seeing the actual guys in the new video is like them passing on to the next generation
Thats because you dont know what the rest knows, the way its looking is to look like an old video tape, you can tell by the artifacts on the rewind,it suppose to look old and grim, while the new is HD without stutter. ;p
Original looks cooler. Miss those baggy clothes times. In the original you have all those breakdancers and in the remake it's different and with hipsters.
The original has that cinematic futuristic vibe and the dances are clearly choreographed. But the remake is kinda unstructured and random moves, which makes sense as if u randomly had the ability to control people youd just fling them about

The original had a consistent colour aesthetic - washed out greys and black and white with red that stuck out. The 2019 one has that awful multi-coloured baggy top and looks more cobbled together. It's dated already but the 1999 one is still cool.
I may also add that, ass twerking and dabbing will never be better than breakdancing popping and locking.Also no PlayStation controller guy on the 2019 version...
I just mentioned the same thing in a reply to another comment. The muted colour pallet is as memorable as the music and the dancing. The new version while a interested take and update just looks messy in comparison.

В новом сразу заметны новое влияние и тема равных прав. Темнокожие, женщины, иначе засудят. В принципе как и в современных фильмах, всегда должны быть женщина, азиат и темнокожий. Не то, чтобы это было плохо, просто прослеживаются современные тренды.
I'm actually surprised how slow edited the new version is. Old editing was way more aggressive and fit tune better. Also I love how old version limited its palette to grays and orange/red while the new video is kinda generic looking among today's stuff.
Always go back to the original whenever I miss the song. But also hit right in the feels to see a part of my teenage life after 20+ years in the remake. The music is forever
Not only is the original on a different planet better, the dancing, brightness, and even clothing looks so much better and could even be worn now! We did not realize how good we had it in the 1980's and 1990's. Look at now! Technology is better but not much else is.

I remember hearing this the first time on The Box. Anyone else remember The Box? So much better than MTV, it was only music videos 24/7, with requests, and best part, it was broadcast TV.
I don't remember nor know The box .... but there were some music channels much better than MTV. Italians (our country neighbour) had private VM - Video Music channel (one of the first in Europe, launched in '84). IMO best music channel ever! They introduced fresh new music and invited many interesting young bands and individuals, some of them you even didn't know about but they did awesome interviews with music you just could not watch it. Specialy band's introducing and interviews were way ahead from MTV. Most of this artists became known or/and famous after months, also years. Sadly VM closed in '96

I didn't even know there was a new version. And now that I've seen it I regret to know about it. It's not bad though, but the original video is just epic and timeless.

I like how the original version has a visual effect resembling what you'd see with a VHS tape for the part where it rewinds. No longer relevant or perhaps even recognizable for much of the audience so not included in a 2019 version.
I think the lil boy act better to tell the story than the lil girl , he had great erxpressions and the camera framed more his face than her . The first one was definitively the best
