Interesting approach! I had chosen a (2K) resin and thrown sand with huge grain against the wall. Once hardened it is like sand paper, pretty common for coatings on the floor. With acrylic resin, you can work afterwards pretty quick and this is extremely durable.

A potential video series I would love to see you do more of are things like using unorthodox materials for the job (dryer patch video) and also when you used those cheap plastic trowels and told your uses for them. I guess kind of a life-hack series in a sense. I personally find it fascinating watching you make those things work haha. Be a good series to binge watch dude 😎 Keep up the good work!! I often use Kills primer before skimming over with All Purpose mud and let dry overnight. I let the Kills dry to tacky. Works great when feathering over painted surfaces. Kills sands at the feathered edge well too. I typically have several days to do drywall/plaster repairs because I'm doing room remodels.

I need to do some repairs to walls with damage similar to the one he does in this video. I have cracks in the plaster. To make sure I'm reading your comment correctly- should I do a coat of Kilz Primer on the bare plaster BEFORE I repair the cracks and imperfections, and then do another coat of Kilz Primer after I've sanded the spackling smooth? Then I can finally paint the repair to match rest of wall? I appreciate any insight, this is my 1st foray into this type of repair job!
@L.Scott_Music
@L.Scott_Music 3 года назад
@@theghostofteddyperkins3687 I use the Kills Primer as a sort of glue for the mud to stick well to painted surfaces. Drywall mud will stick great to bare plaster IF the plaster is sound. (so no Kills needed here.) Make sure bare plaster is not dry and dusty. Moisten before applying mud.(dab with a wet sponge)

@L.Scott_Music
@L.Scott_Music 3 года назад
@@theghostofteddyperkins3687 No, spackling is a light weight material for small holes. Mud is short for 'All Purpose Drywall Mud' (in this context). There is Fast Set mud too but I find it's bond to be less, so I like to at least do a first coat of All Purpose first for larger patches.

I must say, it is very refreshing to learn from someone who lives and educates for quality work! There is always a lot to learn from you, even from mixing mud. ;-) It would be great to give mixing advice and mud comparison (incl. mud consistency which then is useful for your global audience) for the different coats and purposes. Your videos are just great, educational and highly appreciated. As inspiration for future videos you could consider that even initial drywalls can be a pain and can have its own challenges which then have to be fixed e.g. uneven butt joints. You taught us already separately abt coating butt joints and flat joints but how would you coat a ceiling where horizontal flat joints meet vertical butt joints like in a chess board of rectangles? Starting with the butt joints and then the flat joints or would you finish it combined as ceiling sections? It is the skim coat, which now has to handle some imperfections and make the difference in the end... Thanks a lot for being our hero of quality work!

as a seasoned plasterer once told me "put it on, walk away...." Don't have the urge to play with it, once it dries it can be skimmed, sanded or another fill put on as needed.

Very well done. But I have to say, I've never had fast set delaminate on me. I make my mix a little on the too wet side which helps in adhesion. I also use durabond 90 for my initial and follow up with sandable 90 or 120 depending on how much I need to do, then I top it off with my finish coat of topping. Works perfect every time.

I was actually wondering what the difference is between plaster in the USA and the UK. From the videos ive seen The UK plaster seems easier to mix you basically just add water. While in the USA. They use a base coat and for the finish coat they mix plaster with a mixture of lime and water. Most drywallers Ive seen use a quick set or durabond with mesh tape or fiberfuse and then an all purpose or top coat mud for the finish. as a diyer Ive had pretty good success with the durabond and mesh tape method. Ive also tried your glue method and it also works great.

I agree, it’s not cool when your repairs fall of the wall, which is exactly the issue I was having, The glue trick rocks. And I bet there are more girls watching these videos than you realize, these mostly aren’t made for people who professionally finish drywall they are made for people who don’t... and there are a decent amount of female painters and as a painter sometimes you have to fix walls, and though I can usually get it done, I’m not fast at mud work and have plenty to learn.... and my dad was a contractor as well, I also grew up on the job site, but unlike you he didn’t teach me everything, He didn’t like painting , so that’s what I got to do lots of and that’s what I got good at. : )
@HannahMattox
@HannahMattox 4 года назад
@@terraerwin2414 I would say I'm not as good at the painting, but I can do it...I just like it a little less than all of the other stuff. And I genuinely don't know why, it's the thing that makes the most noticeable difference...I mean... Aside from actually building the house 😂

How about a one-stop video describing and showing when to use mud at different consistencies? Start with the thickest usable quickset or all-purpose and describe which situations it's used for and show us in the bucket and on the trowel how it (barely) flows. Then mix it thinner with more water and describe which situations that is used for and show us how it flows. Repeat the process through to the thinnest mud you can use for something. I'd like the video because some folks on youtube forget to show us the mud consistency. Or if they show us, it's difficult remembering how it compares to thinner or thicker consistencies for other uses in other videos. Uses like taping, or after the taping coat is dry, or final coats, or working on ceilings, or skim coating.

Elmer's glue is pretty much the same thing as Bonding Agent and like BA, you can cut it 2-3 times with water to make it more workable. A gallon of bonding agent is about 12 bucks at Home depot
@avisitorhere
@avisitorhere 5 лет назад
The ingredient in wood glue or white Elmers glue is PVA, Poly Vinyl Acetate. This is a common material for bonding. Something better may be Larsons Plaster Weld. It's a PVA based material that rewets when you apply mud for better adhesion.

@avisitorhere
@avisitorhere 5 лет назад
Most PVA bonding agents for stucco would work, like Quikrete Bonding Adhesive available at Home Depot. I like the Larsons Plaster Weld because it becomes tacky again when wetted. Using the Elmers just seals the plaster and keeps it from pulling the moisture from the new mud. Its effective, but Larsons is the belts and suspenders approach. I really enjoy your videos as well.
