Sheeze louise. I wish this fire expansion happened at a point where I had much more free time. I’m gonna’ be hitting my aunt’s place for the weekend. It’ll make the deeper workings of Chicago far more accessible. More time in the city means more community. More community means more cronies waiting to be made!
Ehhhh I talk about myself too much in these. Let’s get to the actual meat and BONES of the situation.
Bone island is by far the most favored island by plenty’s O’ fans in the community. To me it’s… fine. I realized much later down the line how repetitive (even for MSM standards) it really can be. Good to say that the fire expansion monsters elevate this albeit to a very mild degree.
Admittedly, I wanted to reduce the insane treble in this track but unfortunately, the base Bone Island track refused to be audible in the main mix so I used mobile means of combining the sounds meaning the treble is completely intact unlike the last three…
I’m really on the ball with said treble because on one hand it can increase the funk factor especially for this island but on the other hand… it makes the ears bleed… One of my favorite comments by $5Note (I THINK IT WAS HIM) was how Hallow sounds like he’s shooting a glock in this track. Lmfao. Wtf did they do with this mixing?
Anyways, these additional monsters out of all trios to land on the other magical islands really feel the most consistent in quality when comparing to just each other.
Flum Ox I see complaints about but honestly he’s perfectly serviceable. He’s not like, creative or anything but he does fit the general ‘climbing’ vibe of the section. I agree he can be a bit quiet in game (that would be asking too much of a musical game to balance their damn audio properly ofc) but he’s not like bad or anything.
Incisaur particularly pissed me off to see everyone look at him and go 👍 because come on, you gotta’ give him more credit than that. Honestly I think he’s solid as hell and gives oomph to the Denchuhs verse as the Denchuhs are already gnarly in their voice with their “RAT TATATATA” and Incisaur comes in to really add to the gremlin-y feel to their contribution. Not to mention, even if Incisaur wasn’t already themed around teeth, the sound he makes is incredibly fitting for the island regardless.
Ahhhhh Gnarls. Our favorite (not so marine inclined) Siphonophore. I wonder if there’s another word for it and I’m just looking like a moron here…
Of course this guy would be a favorite, even since Amber. He’s probably the most impressive vocal monster we’ve heard in ages, and as a quint, that’s a DAMN PROPER line of quality for it to have. (This guy better go hard on the continent or I’ll be so pissed…)
Once again I found complaints for this guy. The most prominent one being that it is out of sync in game. Yeah uh… that ain’t no accident. I can’t explain it but it’s in the very essence of Gnarls’ shifty and perilous sounding performance in the singing that absolutely compliments that sort of fall back in timing of the beats/syllables it sings. News flash, Gnarls (to a less noticeable extent) absolutely does this trick too on Amber.
I’m not too particularly happy with how he came out in the mix btw. Have you heard the Soundtrack version of Amber? Gnarls sounds GOAT’d there. Christ. That’s because they actually have the individual voices separated from each other to surround the listener. I don’t so I have to rely on cheap tricks to make it sound a bit better than its strict mono track. Man…
That about wraps it up here. I WONDER IF I SHOULD REALLY TACKLE MY OWN BONE ISLAND REMIX because I feel like I’ll do it cheaply with the exact same effects you hear here. I also fear that I might have actually LOST my original mix for it making a high quality version of my remix with the fire monsters impossible. Goddamn it. Enjoy this anyway. I’ll be over here searching. If not, then out and about obsessively. I’m also considering if I should wait I until the elusive Epic Wubbox reveals itself for me to even consider working on my 2.0 Fire Haven Mix. Hmmm... I wonder...
