Tbh, SL0's Marrow engine is pretty complex - it's a miracle it runs this well on Quest 2 at all! The fact that it doesn't look bad at all is just a nice bonus tbh. Yes, aliasing is annoying, but people really forget that the XR2 chip is stressed to the fullest here. EDIT: XR2
Well, the XR2 is stressed in its undervolted state in the Quest 2. The chip itself is much more powerful than the Quest 2 uses, but they capped it so that they didn't have to worry about heating issues.
Game looks amazing. You people need to realise....its running on a mobile phone chip, look how far mobile hardware has come in a few years it will catch up to console and pc level.
@@levisboxing8668 I mean they're kinda not wrong the Quest 2 runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 SoC which is a derivative of their 865 chips for mobile phones.
That won't happen, the rest isnt sitting still either. BUT mobile is the hardware space that'll grow the quickest in terms of power when compared to consoles and PC. But it's going to be a looooooooooong time before we see mobile hardware being able to churn out something like the next gen nvidia cards (way too expensive btw) can: 4K 200+ fps with actually good frame interpolation etc. Having said that: I'm extremely impressed by modern mobile tech. Heck, my phone can do stuff my console from 2 generations ago could not in terms of gaming.
@@JoshDoes in game it's really noticeable but the quest 2 still looks amazing. and it's not just graphics, it's like the physics and everything feel way more PCVR-ey (that's a word!) than pretty much all other Quest 2 games. first time I played trough it I just did it on my quest 2 cuz it was done downloading before the PC version XD
Comparable ONLY for those less demanding VR games. Try some VR sim racing games and you will see the difference. Grid Legend will be coming out soon and you will see the sharp drop in graphics quality and fps. I bet it will cause a ton of motion sickness on Quest 2.
If you didn’t know, you can change your quest 2 graphics settings in side quest, if you think the resolution looks bad in quest, On ANY game, go into side quest, settings and set your resolution to 2048, very minimal effect on performance but an absolutely massive change in resolution. There is some other very useful settings there aswell
@@swarmer7208 its a app you can download from a laptop to your headset so you can access it at any time. Its basically a second store and theres a bunch of free games that arent on the regular quest stire
@@SnrubSource Thats fucking harsh. I think BoneLab's graphics are rather stellar, what VR game do you have that - A: Have graphics that good and B: Have graphics that good that are made by a small indie team and not a tripple A publisher?
Good video! When I played this on the Quest, I was quite happy the game was optimized enough to let me record the gameplay on top of playing it. Def getting a gaming computer in the future but until then, the Quest is all I have.
No, all mobile chips will consume much less energy and produce much less heat, but they are also much less powerful in doing graphics. That's the problem with all "standalone" VR headsets. They are really not standalone after all cause They need to pair with a gaming PC to play any AAA VR games. Even if you wait 10 more years, you will NEVER be able to play any flight simulators on any standalone VR headsets unless you pay a TON of money.
I think the nullbodies look kinda "bad" because it's made to fit the world of bonelab, as it is a prequel to boneworks and we're seeing that the virtual world is still in development
at 1:24 Did you mislabel the different clips? Because looking at the anti-aliasing and bloom the second clip looks like its PC. anyways I was looking for a video like this so thanks
My first time playing I got stuck in the noose at the first cutscene because I grabbed it before I fell, The image was stuck in place no matter how much I turned around but I still heard the sounds, had to restart
what i hate is that some parts of the game you see the quest and your like ehhh that looks weird and you see the pc version and you sit there like oh it just the game bit for example the dungeon bit with the torch has a weird outer glow thing which looks weird but its pretty much the exact same look on the pcXD
Most of it looks really good but I just think some parts look bad cus most of the optimization they did looks like render scaling and lighting and so many of the scenes on pc use a shit ton of lighting
like thrillseeker said, theres times where he forgot he was playing on the quest and so far i couldnt agree more yes theres limits but im happy with that sacrifice if it means i can still smack a null in the face with a pistol when im out of bullets etc.
just wondering since Im kinda new to the VR scene, when referring to PC-VR, does this mean that if I'd play the games via oculus app on my PC and via there to my Quest 2 will it look like that, or does it still look like the footage of the Quest 2?
Person who plays pcvr with a cable to quest 2 here, yeah it looks like whatever ur PC is putting out. Quest 2 standalone looks worse because the headset is doing all the processing. When connected to a computer tho, all the processing is happening on the computer and your quest is only used to see. It's sort of like how a phone would never be able to run a triple A game, but you can watch a RU-vid video of it just fine. The device isn't processing the game, it's just displaying pixels.
@@kilvertm pc and quest versions are counted as seperate games so yeah, if u buy it on quest 2, you don't get pc version and vice versa. I'd recommend buying pc version unless ur pc isn't good enough to get decent framerate.
@@kilvertm it's cross-buy, meaning that if you buy it through oculus you can play it standalone on the headset and also launch it with your PC with the oculus app which will utilize your computer instead of the headset. You have both options when you buy through Oculus store
I just like that I can have the more visually cinematic PC version to play in my room in which I can't really move around too much in and if I choose to I can hop into my Quest and play in my larger living room for a more action packed experience. Though I can always choose to Airlink (VDesktop for steam games), I do prefer using the cable. As good as wireless is, it still doesn't beat the more 1:1 visual quality from the cable. Overall they did a great job being able to bring the Boneworks game to the Quest while providing a new experience via a new title for both old and new players while adding some new features. I personally love being able to quickly go from sitting to standing gameplay as well as the new avatar system and the dynamic stats applied on models. Can't wait to see what people make and might get me to start making my first model for a VR avatar. I feel like this game could really push other devs into including mods like this. Of all the things people have brought up with the whole "metaverse" stuff the only potentially exciting idea for me was the Ready Player One style of having your one Avatar be used across multiple titles. I feel like this is a huge step in that direction and will be one to take note of. I'm sure a lot of VR Chat users would love using their avatars in a game like this in which they not only affect their visual appearance but have the stats that match that avatar.
So are you still using the Quest 2 as the headset for PC VR or are you using a different VR system. I ran Boneworks in PC VR with my quest and am looking to do the same thing with Bonelab
This is why I like Side Quest. I can tweak some of this issues to make them better. Sucks I have to apply the settings every time I turn it on but hey it helps
Nope side quest does not and will never improve graphics and the XR2 already runs at max speed for bonelab settings it from side quest just wastes your time
In this video it just seems the quest two inhanses the atmosphere a bit more except for the shadows it really just depends on your preference they both don't glitch at least for the quest I am pretty close to fully completing bonelab and it seems you get pretty much the same experience either way
Just as a note as someone who plays on the quest, I was fully immersed for over 4 hours straight playing this game, the graphics in headset are fine by my standards
In my experience, as I've been replaying boneworks before buying this, virtual desktop is pretty great. However there is about 40-45ms of latency. You will see the additional graphics as long as you have a decent PC that can handle the graphics in the first place. I have a 3070 3800x combo. I'm not that sensitive to the latency, but some people claim it makes them nauseated very quickly. Others also hate the quest 2 for having a relatively low image quality bandwidth ( upto 150mbps Virtual Desktop, upto 200mbps Air link) or even when used with a link cable (250mbps), although I see what they're talking about it doesn't really hurt the experience all to much (imo just elitists whining about it not being on par with more expensive hardware).
I have a question: If I buy the game on the Oculus PC App, will it transfer to the Quest 2? Or do I have to buy both versions separately. Also, if I run the PC version of Bonelabs on my Quest 2 Wirelessly, does it make any difference in the graphics?
my vision is so blurry i would not notice the anti-aliasing stuff, but the dynamic lighting being missing is quite noticeable. i wonder if modders would find a way to make the graphics look better on the quest 2 somehow, but i doubt that's possible. might just have to get the PCVR version sometime later
also i feel like the quest 2's graphics look similar to boneworks' graphics, if slightly worse. haven't played boneworks in a while tho so this could be wishful thinking
Don’t get me wrong, I’m sure the PC version looks stunning, but this really goes to show how wrong all the people who said “oh, the quest can’t do THAT” have turned out to be. To have graphics this nice on a standalone headset WHILE managing such complex physics is really impressive for what is essentially a powerful specialized smartphone.
i bought the game on oculus store and because then i could get the pc version as well as the quest 2 version. i played the game on pc alot and went on a vacation recently and really enjoyed being able to play bonelab on the go. i do like the anti aliasing on pc but its amazing the game runs on the quest 2 at all. they did some seirously good work on optimisations. 10/10 SL0
I do get as a quest player that my graphics will never be as good as pcvr but I will definitely say bonelab is just such a fun game that it's a minor detail
I haven't played bone labs yet. I'm getting it in a couple days so I have questions. is the anti-aliasing on the quest 2 version really THAT bad, does it look better when the quest is on your head ?
The one time that all these games I've been waiting for years to come out, come out, and my controllers break and I fucked up my parental permission thing
I can highly appreciate how they didn’t have to sacrifice the PCVR graphics for Quest compatibility. Both platforms look as good as they’re ever going to be, and that’s awesome.
The graphics are the least of my worries. When it comes to having a PC that's where choppy framerates and physics limitations vanish from existence. If I'm buying a game I'm getting the whole goddamn game. Lol
Honestly I don’t mind the graphics that much, because everything else is exactly the same, and other than that, it still looks pretty good, and was a ton of fun. I genuinely forgot I was on quest which is insane.
If you get Quest 2, you can buy it from the Oculus Store and you get both versions. And there are ways to play PCVR using WIFI Streaming to your Quest 2. This way you can play PCVR at home, and Quest 2 Stand-alone versions on the go.
The quest and pc versions are separate, but cross buy. If your pc is capable of playing VR, then you have access to the pc game and yes you would plug the quest into the pc and allow enable quest link.
