I was born in Uganda, and my nanny used to sing this song when she was putting me to sleep. Years later, and it makes me cry every time I hear a version of this song. This song is still played by expelled Ugandan Asians to remind them of a place they once called home.

@microwaveman7414 In 1972, the then President Idi Amin, gave Asians/people of originating from India 90 days to leave the country. They were being expelled because they owned the majority of the wealth despite being a minority. A lot of Indian young men like my forefathers were taken to Uganda to build railways in the 1920s when the country was under British rule. Many workers eventually settled there. The community build up wealth over the years and some would send their children to India to study and qualify as doctors etc. My family was wealthy because they exported textiles. They left with a small suitcases of clothes and were considered refugees. The Ugandan military brutally searched people at airports to ensure no-one was fleeing with valuables such as jewellery etc. My family gave away their possessions to loyal staff who had worked for them. Most refugees ended up in the UK because they were born under British rule and so they did not have an automatic right to settle in India. They then Indian Prime Minister, Indira Ghandi, was adamant that Ugandan Asians were British citizens. Many families like mine started small businesses like corner shops. Indians who left Uganda have always been referred to as Ugandan Asians.

Pepe Morales This sweet song reminds me my childhood and my first love, Marta. She was entering in the garden of my summer house. Her family was invited by my parents to have a summer dinner. I was , may be, 12-14 years old, I cannot remember exactly. She was my first love, so blonde and sweet, and this song sounded when she was there with her sweet smile. Now she is an adult mature woman, she has lost her innocent beauty but she (that little girl) will be in my heart for ever. Later in life she knew I liked her, but she was never my girlfriend. I think she found it funny but did not take it seriously. Time has passed, we lived different lifes completely apart and many of those who were in that moment there, in the summer house, have died: her brother, her sister, her father, my sister, my father, my mother, but we are both alive, and I still can remember that moment for eternity. always in my soul. It is incredible, life is incredible, so sort!, it is a mistery. It is amazing how songs can make you remember special moments! This kind of songs make you believe in God! Do you agree?

I remember as a kid when boney m visited kenya I guess around 1978 those were wonderful years to be around thank you boney m for wonderful songs and wonderful memories reminds me of a wonderful program on national radio at the time 6pm then called sundowner
