Two comments. One, Bonfire is straight fire. Have loved everyone of our plays. A fantastic title and in my opinion a top five Feld. Two, the video quality on this review was crystal clear and the combination of the table top and lighting made this game pop off the screen. Fantastic video and lighting quality. Keep up the great work.
Bought this game two weeks ago. Finally got it to the table last night. Nice and crunchy. I will say I won with 7 bonfires with scores 120-72 by chaining the standard goals with my own bonfires in the last 5 rounds, getting 4 of the standard goals. Up until the last five rounds I was losing with only 5 vps too 😅
Love the game. Great review. There is theme and theme. - in case of having an actual theme, most Feld most euros lack - in case of a theme being more like a setting or ambient that you put yourself to enjoy the game, I totally enjoy that theme. The design and coloring is great. Piece of art. And that's all that matters to me in regard of theme /setting
Just picked this game yesterday, I thought the production would be much worse than it is! Also, theme truly got to me! But you have to put a bit on effort on to it
@@BoardGameCo you said something along the lines of "i don't like euros that restrict me to 12 actions" and EW does that exactly. But I find it not to be restrictive at all in EW. Looking forward to hearing about your final thoughts. If I am not mistaken you had reviewed the prototype and did an unboxing but never reviewed the final product
We love this game! I love getting the gates and portals placed in opposite directions. The theme really makes the tight economy more fun. I'm looking forward to the expansion.
Castles of Burgundy thematic? I would say neither game is truly thematic, but I like the puzzle of this game. It is restrictive and will frustrate when you don't plan properly, but in the end I found ways to make points. I only won my last game because I had built up 19 points before end game scoring. So I won by 2 points in the end, which was likely a little frustrating to my opponent. Then again they let me claim all those yellow cards that were worth so many points.
This is one of my favorite games ever! As far as the spending three action chits goes, I think of it more as a ‘get out of jail’ card. I’ve only used it a couple times, I think, either to move my boat across the world because I got cut off and stuck in the corner, or to spin the bonfire wheel because someone took the portal I needed at the last second. It’s very handy in those situations, but I don’t think it’s ever really something you ideally want to do if you don’t have to. As for the bonfires, I’ve got all seven lit and seen fellow players do it. I will say, though, it’s a challenging puzzle to solve and not one people typically figure out their first game. But that’s partly why I love it so much. Any aspect of your tableau that you actually complete feels soooo satisfying 😊
I think I understand what you mean, in that perhaps the actions in the game aren't thematically integrated, but compared to most Feld games where I feel the artwork is very bluh, I felt this was a breath of fresh air from an artwork/theme standpoint. Excellent review though!
