This in 1990, so U2 was just in the midst of being the best rock band in the world, and Acthung Baby! had not yet been released. The Who is in my top 5 favorite bands of all time.

I remember as a very young teenager when U2 were just making inroads into the U.S. People thought all sort of weird things like they were a Christian band and so forth. But everyone who knew a thing or two back in those days of touring bands, they agreed that U2 was on their way to being live show legends like The Who. Huge Anthemic songs played with earnesty, a feeling that they wanted every show to be the best and a social agenda that believed in the power to change the world through music.

I would have loved to have been a music fan when The Fly came out (I was 8). To see Bono transform from this visual style to the Achtung Baby style must have been spectacular.

I think U2 were pretty contrived and they began to dress like that around the Joshua Tree era to 'look authentic and rootsy etc;' and Eno was obviously brought in because they are basically knuckle heads and a one trick pony

I was so disappointed to see fergie sing this song, instead of another female singer, IMO. Mick is, and always has been so charming and charismatic for all these years. I was astonished by the way he spoke about the Beatles, and add his humor. This is such a precious song for me. I'll cherish this song and the memories it brought me from my youth.
