The poet quoted at the end is George Herbert. We were still reading him at Wayne State University in Detroit in the 1970s when I was studying English literature and the Classics. What happened?
Not much, I'd say. I learned about Herbert in the literature survey I took at UVA in 2013 and taught Herbert (including the poem discussed here, I think) in a survey of English poetry at Chapel Hill in 2019-2020.
The Tale of Two Cities film mentioned here is the 1935 one directed by Jack Conway. This video is great btw and has enlightened me no end on a Christmas Carol and Tale of Two Cities. Thank you so much
