There was an attempt for this to be a theatrical release, but sadly, the producers and Lyrick (who released both this show and Barney on VHS) couldn't find a studio that would distribute it. So, its release was on the network Showtime, with Lyrick releasing it on VHS about a year later and PBS briefly would air it until WISHBONE was overall removed from syndication around the early 2000s. Larry Bentley, who performed the voice of WISHBONE, said the actual final day of filming was doing the opening montage (so the first few minutes of the movie were the last shots filmed on anything WISHBONE). He said after the final shot was filmed, the creator and producer had a few last words to the production team and cast, saying, "You will always remember you were a part of something very special." And yeah, all of us that grew up on WISHBONE have never forgotten.

Seeing the dog in the costumes makes me smile every time. I think this is one is the only one I haven't seen. Hahaha not his mom showing up to set him straight. I think a discussion in the new movie (if it ever happens) about what makes a classic a classic or books that have been published since the original came out maybe.

I think they only used older books in the original because they were in the public domain so they didn't have to worry about purchasing the rights to adapt them.

This is very strange but I did not find out this movie even existed until 2 years ago even though I watched Wishbone as a kid.

I honestly don't know how I missed this entire show. I'm Gen X so it wouldn't have been my childhood. But my nieces were growing up around this time, so I don't know how we all missed it. Your series has kinda made me want to see it! I wonder if maybe my library has the DVDs ...
