Phil Collen of Def Leppard in-store performance at Boo Boo Records in San Luis Obispo, CA. on April 22, 2024, celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the ‘Pyromania’ album and the 50th Anniversary of Boo Boo’s!
This is crazy! How in the world did this store even get this dude??? Phil is iconic, in an iconic band who sell out stadiums and arenas worldwide...... and he's here playing in front of 30 people! What a humble guy. Whoever uploaded this , you lucky SoB!!
@@deangoings You sir have major reading comprehension issues. No where did I ever say in my comment that Phil Collen was considered one of the greatest guitarists of all time. I'll write it out slowly so you can understand ... I said he's "I C O N I C". Apparently you don't know what that means. Example: Motley Crue is a household name in the rock community therefore everyone knows who Mick Mars is. THAT makes him iconic. No one would ever say Mick is one of the greatest guitarists lol. Yes, Phil is iconic due to every single rock and roll fan knowing who DL are and who he is. Take your negativity down the road kid.
@@deangoingsyou clown, he's in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, of course he's iconic. He wouldn't have done G3 with Satriani and Petrucci if he wasn't.
Same here with me. Photograph was such a classic even back then and it’s never lost its magic. Can you believe I actually remember hearing on the radio back then when the news reported that Rick Allen was involved in an accident. I was 13 at the time.
I remember walking into my local record store in March 1983 as a 16 yr old and buying Pyromania. Man it only seems like yesterday. Where did all those years go I wonder? Still feel like that 16 yr old today. Nothing's changed. The more things change the more they stay the same.
All the negative comments wish they could play half as good and had a fraction of his bank account. 😅 He's an incredible guitar player. Satriani brought him on a G3 tour with Petrucci for good reason. Go watch live clips of his set from that. Def Leppard rocks! Phil, Vivian, Steve Clark, and Pete Willis all rocked on guitar!
Oh yes and this was a great upload of Phil. It’s not everyday you get such an amazing guitarist play in a small venue like this. Speaks volumes that he’s really about the fans.
I grew up shopping and spending a lot of money at Boo Boo's in SLO!!! I happened to be back home on vacation and caught this really cool gig...met Phil at NAMM in the early 90's and he was cool then and still is!!
Love Phil - every time I see him he reminds me of his best mate + the lyrical + musical genius of Leppard who seriously 'had it all', the genuinely rock star cool Steven Maynard "The Riffmaster" Clark. And I wonder what "Steamin" would be doing today - with the inventions in technology. Phil has said that Steve was interested in the movie industry, sound tracks in particular. I will get bashed for this but his 'shredding' I have never taken to. But he 'can' play for sure.
Phil isn’t so much a shredder but my lord what a song writer and iconic guitarist from an even more iconic band! Wish I could have caught this in person
Where is boo boos? Def Lepp has always been my favorite band going back to the early 80s. Those who were around during that time know what great music was back then and how fortunate we were to grow up with mtv. Blessed to watch and listen to def Lepp back then is an understatement. Glad I had the chance to see def Lepp right up close to the stage while Phil played directly in front of me. I kept giving him the “guitar strum” motion as to asking him for a pick. After his solo , he threw it directly at me and have it to this day. The funny part of it all was everyone around me was asking if they could see the pick. I was like fu*k no. 😂. Have it to this day. :)
Every time I see him doing a demo or anything outside of DL, all he does is try and play as fast as he can? Every time! In DL he’s so melodic and tasteful. Never understood that.
Not to mention, without delay, reverb and other effects he is absolutely terrible. Plug him straight into an amp and its brutal. Watching his right hand action is hilarious to watch....makes you go WTF lol. Amazing what you can do in the studio with gadgetry. Steve Clark was the best guitarist the band had.
No offense to his fans, but Phil Collen is one of the most overrated players in rock music. Yes, he's recorded some tasty leads, especially on Pyromania, but soon after Hysteria was released he started picking as fast as he could every chance he got. He's an icon, but not because of his sloppy attempts to shred. Vivian Campbell must cringe whenever Phil puts on a shirtless speed-picking slop-fest live.
