The best part about these stories is how cool New York rappers were with one another back then. You always hear about the beef, but you never hear about how they supported each other and help build. Thanks, Kenny.
That " How Many Mc's" is one of the hardest beats/songs in rap history. Even the video was hard-core. Good selection Kenny P. I still play that track at least twice a month
Powaful Impak, Who Got Da Props, Son Get Wrec, Black Smif-N-Wessun, How Many MCs, Murder MCs, Buck Em Down (Remix), I Got Cha Opin (Remix) too many classics on that debut album from Black Moon. Enta Da Stage was and is a DOPE album in the legacy of Golden Era Hip-Hop!
I was the one that asked about Boot Camp on your live, and here you are telling us some stories about them. Thank you so much for this! When I first heard Smif-n-Wessun I had the same reaction as you, same with Heltah Skeltah, Black Moon & OGC. When the beat came on for I Got Cha Opin Remix, the world stopped around me for a few minutes. It's insane to me that Beatminerz don't get the props they deserve.
Thanks DJ Kenny Parker! To all those who view this video: as a token of appreciation for DJ Kenny Parker sharing these jewels with us, match (or beat) my contribution! A thousand of us @ $5 a pop gets it done, so…let’s do it!
Black Moon is one of the best underground hip hop groups of all time! Buckshot, Evil Dee, Mr. Walt and Dru Ha created an amazing bench of talent! Who doesn't like the Beatminers? Smith & Wesson, Helter Skelter and the OGC's! All those albums are classics and when Sean Price went Solo....it was crazy!!!! I have a tattoo of the Nervous Weeded Records Logo on my left arm! I got the original print for the tattoo by writing to Nervous Records and asking for it when I was a Music Editor of Subculture Mag! I showed my tatt to Smith and Wesson during a show, while they were on stage and they loved it! Great times, with great music and I was in my 20's!!!! Worked the West Coast & East Coast Underground Hip Hop labels in the Mid 90's to mid aughts!!!
What made the Beatminerz music so unique was their use of resonant filters. They were the first Hiphop producers I personally heard using them. I recognized it right away because I was also into House music where they were already being used extensively. They would low pass a sample then also high pass the sample. First they hit you with the low passed bassline of the sample. They would set the resonance to really accentuate the bass. Then they would drop the high passed part to give you the full sample. Buck Em Down is the prime example of this technique!
I graduated in 92. That's when I started hitting the club hard for like a decade 😅. In Philly, when that Black Moon came out, we were going crazy. The whole Boot Camp Clique was getting mad play!
I’m fully addicted to this channel, love the videos Kenny. When I was in 5th grade me and a friend memorized the words to “loves gunna getcha” and we’d rap it all the time at school. In 2020 I ran into that friend again and we still Both knew the lyrics. Peace from Canada my man
You have lived one of the truly great lives of anyone ever. To be in the Hip Hop mix that close and so involved is amazing!!! And to be the brother of possibly the greatest Emcee ever, gottah be an even better feeling. Thanks for all the great vibes.
Wow, thank you! As a lifelong Hip-Hop fan, I have truly experienced some amazing moments. I take none it for granted. I have so many more stories coming up. I really appreciate your words. Thanks again, KP
To me Boot Camp Clik is in Hop Hall of Fame. I could go on and on about all the dope tracks. Definitely legends in NY hip hop history … LEFLAUR LEFLAH ESHKOSHKA!!! 😂✌️
These stories are priceless.. especially when you're a 50+ year old who grew up loving this great music. Peace and Love.. Hip Hop Forever...Nuff RespeK!
This was a dope story. Hearing those clips was like instant triggers in childhood memories. I remember the battle raps that used to air on hot 97 at night, right around the time these songs were all dropping. I'm mad surprised mic geronimo didn't get more love past 1 or 2 songs. He should've been a household name or at least near it.
Yo my favorite BlackMoon joint of ALLTIME is criminally slept on & it’s the original album version of “ Buck em Down “…..that joint was just evil played on a banging system & Buckshot kicked NOTHING but hardcore gutter lyrics that made you feel like you was on a journey through wild, crazy & violent Brooklyn NY in the 90’s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
@@djkennyparker Bro I hope you can interview some of the greats like KRS 1, Rakim , Buckshot, OC, AZ, Jeru tha Damaja etc….I think with your knowledge, style & charisma it’s a win 👍🔥🔥🔥🥇🏆
BCC legendary!! Nothing like coming up back then when these were the songs getting dropped… 🔥 used to bump into Evil Dee downtown alphabet city Record shop digging for records mad chill dude.. shout out the whole BCC BDP Dj Kenny Parker!! ✌🏻
I really appreciate the way you tell these stories, the history of HipHop is still being written by pioneers like yourself, and it’d be a crying shame to lose this insight into the golden era.
Holy Sh*t! I was at that rock steady reunion myself. Absolutely epic. AS I recall the artists you mentioned playing just scratched the surface of that year's line up. Your youthful niavity might of shown through in that story but it also shines light on your good heart. big up as always DJ KP.
BIG UP! BIG UP! BIG UP! BIG UP!!! THE MASSIVE DJ KENNY PARKER! Maaaaan I loved that song "How Many MC's" I remixed it to Kriss Kross's "Alright". "BUCK EM DOWN" was my next favorite song on the "ENTA DA STAGE" album. That was basically the soundtrack to me falling tf off back in 1993-1994 when I went back to live with my mom in the pj's😒. I was there for a little while during the video of "Soundbwoy Burreill. It was down the block from project create where I was staying at the time. I left and went to Yonkers to see my girl at the time. When I returned later that night, they were still filming. You have great taste in music. Another great episode.
This was dope to watch & I really enjoyed the fact that Kenny Parker did it….first time hearing him speak & he sounds so eloquent & he holds your attention the whole time he’s talking about the glory days of my favorite hiphop Supergroup the Bootcamp clik…..RIP Sean Price 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏 Big ups to the one & only ALMIGHTY KRS 1 👍👍👍
Boot Camp (especially Black Moon and Smiff) doesn't get the credit they deserve for keeping NY rap alive during the West Coast takeover of the game. People give props to Nas, Wu, and Biggie for bringing NY back but imo Onyx, Black, and Smiff set them up to be great. Dah Shinin is a str8 up classic album and Enta Da Stage had 3 classic singles. Greatness.
Peace Kenny! Thank you for these videos they are like hip hop time capsules! Much needed for the preservation of the culture. Big respect!!! Also, I always thought there was some kind of Black Moon/BDP connection early on because of how Buckshot starts his first verse on Who got the Props sounds like one of KRS’s lines from the BDP song Duck Down, which is of course the name of Black Moon/Boot Camp’s label.
@@jamesfrench6149 ok and? I never heard his brother speak until now. I know brothers who hang with each other all the time and they sound and act nothing alike
One of my college friends/dealers actually worked for duck down records at the time. Steele and Buckshot came to my dorm often. Burned with them a few times. Very chill, humble street dudes.
BCC is my favorite hip hop group of all time. I did a little fist pump when you said Sound Bwoy. I knew that had to be the one. Beat Minerz have made some of the best and darkest and funkiest beats ever. Just love everything that surrounded BCC. A beautiful era in hip hop, and I felt they basically epitomized it with the lyricism and the beats.
Thanks again Kenny! Keep the stories coming...... I Love them! I was lucky enough to see Smif N Wessun in London last year on their 25th Anniversary of Dah Shinin' tour! Still amazing!
Thats dope Kenny! U know the formula to picking a single off an album that will really resonate with people. "Black Moon - How Many MC's", "50 Cent - In Da Club", "Dr Dre - Nuthin But A G Thang", all these songs although different all have the same qualities to be a big record, simplistic beat, simplistic rhymes with slow flow, catchy hook, in otherwords easily digestable tracks. Thats the secret sauce in picking a single that will resonate with people
Okay again I know we sound like a broken record BUT DAMMMMMM !!!!!! I wish todays artist put out classic timeless master pieces like the legends did in the 90’s…..rappers from NewYork city back in the late 80’s & 90’s was like real life superheroes….from Rakim, KRS1, BDK, Buckshot, Smif n Wessun, Heltah Skeltah, Mobb Deep, WuTang, Nas, AZ, OC, Jeru tha Damaja, etc etc …..I don’t think we will ever see another time in hiphop like those days 🙏🙏🙏🙏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🏆🏆🏆🏆🥇🥇🥇🥇
The real fail for Boot Camp at the time was in the "I got ya opin" video when the dude in the back slips and falls down in the park, I think it's in the first 10 seconds.
