Book Bingo Card for 2024 From r/Fantasy! What I Plan On Reading // TBR // Diggerdan Reads 

I had originally slotted Malice into the first square, but after reading it, I ended up putting into the 5+ POV square. Lots of characters in that one :D Great book. Also, not intending to be the participation police, if you are interested, the rules of the challenge allows for only one reread. Project Hail Mary definitely fits Survival - hard mode.

If I was going to get someone into fantasy who likes romance, I would start with Nora Roberts. She has several genres she writes in so your wife may not have read her fantasy, but has read her contemporary romance books. If your wife wanted to try out her contemporary just to see if she likes the writing, she could try the Inn of Boonesboro trilogy. Her Isle of the Three Sisters trilogy has witches and magic fantasy while The Circle trilogy brings in portal magic and other things. Nora Roberts has been writing for a while and publishes quickly which is good if you get into one of her ongoing series. She tends to write in trilogies though she has a few standalones. For Eldritch Creatures: I read The Ninth Rain by Jenn Williams. It's the first of a trilogy, but is complete. If you don't like bugs, maybe don't get it.

Goblins/Orcs: The Hobbit, LotR, The Goblin Emperor, Orconomics.

Recommend to your wife The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston - it’ll dip her toes into a speculative romance, while being less extreme than ACOTAR. Bonus: it’s an AMAZING book! I’ve seen it on SO MANY best of 2023 lists, and it is my top book of the year so far. Maybe this will help her dip her toes in a little more gently? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Alliterative Title: One I was considering re-reading, but if you haven't read yet, might be a great choice for a spooky horror read. The Haunting of Hill House, It's quite short as well. Under the Surface: Not sure about Secret Realms, first I'd heard of it! Caving and Underwater books have always been my Jam though, so a few great ones, The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling, The Descent by Jeff Long, Sphere by Michael Chriton, The Maw by Taylor Zajonc. Dreams: I feel like this is a square we are likely to get by accident, I have a few maybes but I think I'm going to just see what happens, if we reach like January and we haven't filled the square I'll go hunting for specific recommendation's. Bards: It was just pointed out to me by Pauline over at @Thataltmomvlogs in her own Bingo video that Bloody Rose by Nicholas Eames has a character called a bard, so that's my new choice for the square, I am still not sure I can bring myself to start a series with Name of the Wind that seems to have almost no chance of finishing. Multi POV: I have been led to believe that The Blade Itself does have 5 POV characters! Published 2024: A good list I was looking at is Goodreads list of 2024 Debuts - www.goodreads.com/list/show/176397.2024_Debuts Disability: One that is on my radar as a possible for this square is The Spear Cuts Through Water - Simon Jimenez which seems really interesting. Space Opera - I think Star Wars is basically the dictionary definition of space opera yeah. Survival - Oh! I cant wait to see what you think about Project Hail Mary! I would absolutely count it for Survival. Judge by the Cover: I checked for you, it looks like its a Duology and both books are stitched together in the copy you have, so I think you're safe. Also I lost it at "The Cover of the Side" :D Eldritch: I'm gonna suggest you check out Tales of the Gas Station on Audible, It's kind of an Urban Fantasy/Horror/Comedy book series that I have adored in Audio form. For a 2024 release, I’d recommend The Tainted Cup by Robert Jackson Bennett. I loved it!

Great list! So many good choices. I also want to read Malice this year. I'd recommend Divine Rivals if you are looking for suggestions for your wife. It felt like historical romance with fantasy elements to me (and it's fantastic!)

For Dreams: Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor...? Nightmare by Piers Anthony (Xanth series)...?

It's for younger readers but, the Pellinor series by Alison Croggon features bards and actually uses the word, so it hits hard mode.

The books going around for the bard prompt are A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross, and Bloody Rose which is the 2nd book in the Kings of the Wyld series by Nicholas Eames. I also think The Bard’s Blade by Brian D Anderson would work.

For 2024- I am super excited for The Failures by Benjamin Liar (out in July). Or one that just came out is The Silverblood Promise by James Logan. I believe these are both debuts and would work for hard mode. For disability- Ascendant by Michael Miller has a blind dragon that I believe would be considered a main character for hard mode

Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo hits hard mode for dark academia. Also, FYI, you’re limited to one re-read for the entire bingo card.

My daughter is not a fantasy reading like your wife. I had her read Shadow & Bones by Leigh Barudugo and she loves it. It's world building isn't overwhelming and the magic is easy to understand also has a romance. If you haven't read it I suggest you read it so you can help with the first couple of chapter but once you get over the first couple chapter and getting all the information that the beginning chapter thought at you. She be good. May cover your Eldritch Creature sqaure.

The Goblin Emperor by Katherine Addison might be a good choice to get from your library. I’ve heard good things.
