As indie authors, we are responsible for our books' formatting, and that process can be intimidating if you're just getting started. I've formatted all of my own books in Microsoft Word, and along the way I've taught myself how to do so in a way that looks and feels professional and often includes eye-catching visual elements.
Today I'm wrapping up formatting series with a final trick you can use to clean up your book's appearance and get everything looking nice and polished. This is something you'll want to save until the very very end so you don't mess up any work you've done previously.

Thank you all so much for checking out this video series and for your likes and comments. I'm so glad it's been helpful for so many of you. I've had a ton of people asking questions about specific formatting issues or problems, and while I would love to answer all of them, I simply don't have the time (or the knowledge sometimes) to respond to every specific question. Microsoft Word isn't the best or the easiest formatting tool out there, so it is pretty tricky to get things right. Most of what I've shown here was learned through trial and error and many, many Google searches. You can find many of the solutions to your problems that way. I'm sorry I can't respond to every single question but I wish you all the best of luck in your formatting endeavors!

I just watched all the videos in this playlist. Thank you very much! Word opened up for me from a new side. But Atticus is certainly interesting. If I start receiving royalties, I'll have to buy it 😁 For me, it was the last video that made the difference. I had so much trouble with the hanging lines! And you showed such an elegant and simple solution. Thanks a lot 🤍 I want to say that not only does the Book of the Pirates look awesome, but so do your books. Love the covers and formatting. Looks professional and attractive. I have something to strive for. Thank you again ❤‍🔥

Thanks to your videos, I polished my book like a pro! By the way, do you have a video explaining how to format table of content?

I am asking you this because I find you to be an expert on formatting for manuscripts. Is there ever a way that one can make corrections and modifications to one’s manuscript while it’s in PDF form on the KDP website and being viewed there as an upload? That would make things so easy. Just a question…

Thanks for this info. I was wondering what paragraph settings (paragraph indents, spacing and pagination) you used for this book?

Great video. My problem is that when I got my proof from kdp, some print was lighter than other print. Any ideas?

What paper to use to print the book?

Oddly, the space between the bottom of my paragraphs and the page numbers varies. Some are touching the number and some have one or two spaces. What did I do?

What do you do when, like what I'm doing, the spacing is fine in word but when I move it to Barnes and nobles press there were two empty pages in the middle of the book. I don't know why and can't find a answer online.

Are you saving it from word as a PDF and then uploading the PDF to B&N? It has to be saved as a PDF with all the text and images embedded so it doesn't mess up the formatting.

@@ta_hernandez5 Yes it's a Google doc that I converted as a PDF.

The issue I constantly have trouble with is that MS Word doesn’t line up the last line of one page exactly with the next page. To better explain what I mean is that the gap between the page numbers and the last lines of pages varies, and it’s a real pain trying to line them up. Any tips out there?

Try Paragraph -> Line and Page Breaks -> Keep lines together
@mariygv3371
@mariygv3371 Месяц назад
From Word Support: 'If a paragraph has a page break in the middle so that only the last line appears at the top of the following page, this lonely line is called a “widow.” If, on the other hand, a paragraph has a page break in the middle so that only the first line appears at the bottom of a page while the rest of the paragraph appears on the next page, this lonely line is called an “orphan.” If you want to avoid widow and orphan lines in your document, follow these steps. Right-click the paragraph in which you want to avoid widows and orphans. In the box that opens, select Paragraph. Click the Line and page breaks tab. In the Pagination section, select the Widow/Orphan control check box. Click OK.'
