Today I'm sharing the fabulous books I got for my birthday, as well as some I found in secondhand bookshops in Yorkshire. Do any of these books catch your eye?

Sounds like you had a wonderful birthday and got some really great books! I think I enjoyed the Starlight Barking even more than 101 Dalmatians. I love the cover of the one you found. I am so impressed (and slightly envious!) of all your independent and second hand bookshops in Yorkshire. Lovely that you got to spend time with your father for your birthday, and Donna didn't disappoint with her really thoughtful book choices for you! 'The Little Bookroom' by Eleanor Farjeon, with illustrations by Edward Ardizzone, is the book that really set me on the path of becoming an avid reader when I was in primary school (my mum loved it too, as she loved reading my books from the school library); it's a book that I still read every few years. Thanks for showing us all your latest books, Miranda, and glad that you've had such an enjoyable birthday!

The Disney edition of 101 Dalmatians was a childhood favourite. I’ve now ordered the original novel together with The Starlight Bark. Happy birthday, Miranda! I'm so glad you had a nice celebration. I love Folio books too, and £8.99 for that copy of Akenfield is a real bargain--you couldn't pass that up! In looking up the books written by Dorothy Canfield, I saw that she had written a children's book called "Understood Betsy" which I remembered reading in grade school. I need to check out some of the books she wrote for adults. I so wish that event in Bath was also going to be accessible by Zoom for all of your viewers who can't make it there in person.

Like you, my favorite gifts are always books! :) Many great books: Femina sounds really inspiring and I would like the Windsor Diaries too. Love cathedrals and churches, so the Heaven on Earth book sounds wonderful. Winters in the World appears to be a fascinating read also. Heaven on Earth sounds a wonderful book with all those beautiful photographs and illustrations. I also enjoy visiting cathedrals and churches. I went to several churches while in Dorset recently. One stood out for me, The Church of Our Lady, Queen of Martyrs and St. Ignatius. It has such a beautiful interior. It's at Chideock, if you are ever in that part of the country it is well worth a visit. I also like the sound of Marple, The Three Dahlias, The Windsor Diaries and Birds Anthology. You did very well with your second-hand books too.

Happy Birthday Miranda, it sounds like you enjoyed a really lovely celebration and received some wonderful presents. Two of your books stood out in particular that I would like to read. First, Eleanor Parker's Winters in the World is a book I am looking forward to reading. Eleanor has the wonderful blog A Clerk of Oxford and I have been following her wonderful writing there for some years now. Second is Ronald Blythe's Akenfield - I love his writing as I live very close to the places he writes about. The Birds Anthology looks gorgeous, and Kate Atkinson's latest and the Marple short collection are irresistible. Everything is enticing. I've recently discovered David Downing's John Russell mystery/espionage series set during WWII. Have you read any? As with Elly Griffiths' Ruth Galloway series, once I start I can't stop at just one or two. My sleep has been suffering! You’ve reminded me of “The Windsor Diaries” which has been on my list for some time. “Heaven on Earth” sounds like a feast for the eyes. I love going into cathedrals and churches on my travels. I always think of past parishioners worshipping in such beautiful, hallowed walls. I can’t wait to discuss Persuasion, subsequent readings bring out new things each time. So nice to hear that you had a lovely birthday and wonderful visit with your Dad. How sweet of your Mom to have planned a surprise early birthday celebration for you!! All of your new books look enticing and what beautiful editions. You've inspired me to read Kate Atkinson's new book. I have heard so much about her but have yet to read any of her works. "The Three Dahlias" and "Marple" sound like perfect books to settle down with as the days get shorter and are now on my "order from the library" list. You're event at Persephone Books sounds like it will be fantastic. Very much looking forward to next weeks discussion of "Persuasion".

What a stunning collection of books! Particularly interested in Stone Blind. Poor Medusa's story has been seen through the male gaze for far too long. I love the sound of The Three Dahlias and I'm looking forward to seeing if you were impressed with the new Miss Marple stories. So tempted to visit Bath to see your event 🖤 But it's just too far. I know it will be absolutely fascinating, you're a brilliant speaker, and so wonderful to meet you both. So much love and luck with it xx

Happy belated birthday Miranda❣ Best wishes and happy reading to you. Miranda , have you read any of the Maisie Dobbs series? I fell upon Birds of a Feather which is the second book in the series and learned so much about the First World War. Have been reading more in the series ...Enjoyed them a lot ! Who can say no to a woman psychologist/investigator ..:))

Thanks! Yes, I read several of them when they were first being published. I enjoyed them at first, but found they got a bit repetitive & stopped reading. The first few are good though! Xxx

Hi Miranda. I am so thrilled to have followed a Persephone recommendation for your excellent videos. As a fellow bibliophile I thought it was just me that was obsessed with comfort reading and between-the-wars writing, aided and abetted by my late mother (90)whose suggestions were always worthwhile seeking out. Perhaps you might enjoy Fenny by Lettice Cooper which I found on Abebooks. I love finding out what your latest book haul has turned up. You always have something that I can put on my towering TBR pile. Thank you.

Hi Maranda, The Windsor Diaries and Winters in the World look good. Just finished The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and 5 stared it. Will be starting Persuasion today. Read North Anger Abby for Jane Austen July and enjoyed that. Really want to read Persuasion and Sense and Sensibility though. Have no interest in P&P, Emma (I know this is an unpopular opinion) or Mansfield Park.
