Book of Cylinders | Candlekeep Mysteries DM Guide 

Thank you for these videos-this channel is the first stop on my list whenever I'm prepping a new Candlekeep adventure.

Running this for the first time tomorrow night, and this video was so helpful to help me decide what to keep and what to cut for a shorter session! Thanks!

Just based on the published version, I think that having the Book of Cylinders cylinders show the party fighting the evil yuan-ti (don't say that directly, just describe "a tall woman with a ponytail and an ax" or "a short figure shooting lightning" and wait for the players to figure it out) improves this a lot. The players feel like it has been prophesized that they should take on these baddies, which makes them feel special. (And the Avowed are obsessed with prophecies, so it's not entirely unreasonable that they would have figured this out and sought out the party for this reason.) Deliberately trying to confuse the players about the good and evil yuan-ti (by the grippli giving contradictory descriptions and thinking that they are one group instead of two) might take some work, but could be a fun twist. The players PROBABLY won't slaughter the tied-up-about-to-be-sacrificed ones, even if they haven't quite figured it out yet. I also think it could be cool to swap out the good yuan-ti for Nidalia the not-that-bad lamia from Mazfroth's Mighty Digressions, if the PCs befriended the jackalweres and brought her back to life. It would be a fun way to return them to the story.

You must have some pretty experienced, optimized groups that you run for--these monsters as written kicked my party's butt! 😮
