Animal farm is more difficult to me than 1984 for some reason.

I love reading classic satirical literature. While appreciating the author’s razor-sharp pen and comical incisions, we get to study the social mores of another culture and era. And, amazingly, works of satire that were written hundreds of years ago still feel incredibly relevant to today, revealing the foibles of humanity that transcend any particular setting. My favourite one is Animal Farm by George Orwell ... I read it basically because it was in my ICSE syllabus and the book was truly awesome... ❣️ I would love to read more from this genre.

My fav satire is always pride and prejudice. And a few in my mother tongue malayalam. The author is Benyamin who wrote “Goat days” (there are a few other satiric book by him in malayalam). That really makes us thinks about the things happening in society..

Favorite satire : The entire bibliography of PG Wodehouse. He has managed to satirize every aspect in the lives of English aristocrats. He's written poems, short stories, lyircs for musicals and novels as well, over a career spanning more than 60 years.

Favourite satire - The canterville ghost Love it because the projection is totally different way how we see the ghost and how it compares 2 fronts.

I have read Gulliver's travels in my school time as a part of curriculum but The good thing is that I read the starting pages too which actually gave me an insight into the satirical side of the book.Well the fact that the stories have satirical aspects make you love it more.Looking forward to other satirical books.

Hi Helly. A giveaway after a long time. I do want to read from this genre because I haven't read a satire other than pride and prejudice. I got back to my reading habit bcoz of you, and it would be a great encouragement for me if I win this giveaway.

Reading serious books are sometimes dam boring .But humour attracts everyone and those amazing messages hidden inside those ones would really influence ever single ones

Satire flips what you think and it makes you second guess. It makes people think about reality. It is a different gateway to showing your views on touchy topics. It makes sensitive subjects easier to talk about. I think satire is an amazing addition to the world of literature. I think it isn't just entertaining but also enlightening. Satire is like a nice frosting layered on the cake of problems making a nice topping for all of us. But the yummy topping that I ever had was "American psycho Bret Easton ellis". Most importantly it does not express opinions by making it a really , long boring speech like what I did.

I have only read one satairacal novel which is pride and prejudice and loved it. I haven't got a chance to read another one since then cause I wasn't sure which book to pick. That's why I'd like to read bestseller cause the theme of the book sounds really interesting. Thank you very much Helly for introducing this genre to us. I really hope I get this book 😉😀😙💗

I want to read this genre because I am still a new reader and I am still exploring different authors, books and different type of genres. I currently finished reading "the India I love" by Ruskin Bond and I think its time to move to a new book with a different genre. Btw I have read Gulliver's travel but I never imagined it to be a satire. Now that I think about it, it does make sense.

I love reading satire because it gives u a little satisfaction that u understood the satire. I truly agree to what u said,if u know the story or scene behind then u can enjoy this genre. I have read works of VKN, master of satire in Malayalam. I love Poonachi and Animal farm. But for me Poonachi stands a little above, since I know the story behind it better and hence, can absorb the satire.

Honestly,I haven't read satire books...but there is a great poem by VIKRAM SETH called THE TALE OF MELON CITY,i loved it, I loved the way he used satire and humour there,I would definitely like to read some more creations of this kind. Thanks!😊😊😊😊

I've read animal farm and 1984. I liked 1984 more as it was a completely different experience. The thought of a dystopian world where your every action even thought is watched is enough to make a chill run down your spine.

You can’t have or make opinions on a book based off of what other people say or recommend, do read them and form an sustainable argument for your beliefs, thoughts and judgement.

One book I can recommend is "Meandering Sobriety". Although it's a philosophical book, it is a bit humorous and still thought-provoking. The book is a series of funny and thought-stimulating stories that will help you have a moment of escape from hustle reality to see and understand it deeper. It can also bring you some LOL moments as well. Most importantly, it's short and can be completed in a day.

Out of the book you recommended Animal farm can be termed as the best satire without any doubt. The line that makes the book my personal favourite is - All animals are equal but only some are more important than others.

I read 'The Modest Proposal' by Jonathan Swift in first year of college and it is as brutal as satire gets.

Hello Miss. Helly, Have a nice day. I am Akash. My favorite satire is Animal Farm by George Orwell. (A political satire criticizing democracy.) Being an upsc aspirant, I was very well known about the background i.e. Russian revolution and that helped me to understand it completely. And being a student of literature this book inspires the writer within me to write something like this as I know how beautifully the book is written and how brilliantly the message and concept is conveyed. Now why I think I should read such books ? Because, 1. The books, belonging to this genre opens one's eyes i.e. it make me aware of what the shit is happening in surrounding or I am experiencing and that too in a very ironical and humerous way along with the exaggeration or ridicule. 2. These books make me smile/laugh and simultaneously these books also make me to think. 3. I think, I should read such books; to understand and to stop the foolishness I am experiencing or doing. 4. Such books give me set of rules and principles for a better social life. 5. Such books can lead to major social changes. 6. Habbit of reading such books can sharpen the edge of my thoughts and it can make me thoughtful.

i recently read Animal farm and was mind blown by it when I read the ending of the book, the last line of the book 'when the creature looked outside from pig to man, and man to pig, and from pig to man and it was impossible to say which was which' this line changed everything

I think satire is the best weapon to criticize and fight an authority above us. Be it religious or political. That is why i want to read that partucular genre. I would really like to start my exploration of this genre from this book. Thank you helly

Yo ! Please don't call 1984 - a satire...its a nightmare. It's the most depressing book I've ever read and that's an understatement. Couldn't read more than 15-20 pages at once. It's conceptually heavy too. An important book nevertheless.

Looking absolutely out of this world esp the hairstyle.

I have a suggestion if I may. Title is Life Seemed Good, But.... The stories are fantasy humor, each about 2 pages long, and is not at all what you'd expect! Watching this right after finish reading Animal Farm. I loved the book and almost regret that I didn't pick it soon. It is so informing and eye-opening. Boxer reminded me of the jawans who gave their life in the recent Pulwama attack. Next read will be 1984. Thanks for the recommendations.

My favorite satirical novel is The White Tiger. I liked his style of writing, it's protagonist's journey and wrong doings are presented in a humorous and believable way.

Hi Helly! The almost 800 page long , hardbound copy of David Copperfield which gave me acute backaches is definitely my favourite satire . This favourite child of Charles Dickens has characters which are pinnacles of human nature . We grow with the protagonist first laughing at the comical people surrounding him or pitying his innocence and later realizing everyone was byproduct of the society they lived in .

When it comes to comic novels/books it has to be Narayan gangyopadhyay's Tenida stories. And like most great works its a pity there can never be a good enough Tenida Samagra translation making the book pretty exclusive to bengalis. Apart from that the best satire i read is 1984. The only description i find apt for it is a bengali one (i gather you are a bong, so taking this advantage!)- "bhoyonkor sundor".

Never read a satire except prude and prejudice and gulliver's travel. Wanna read this just because you recommended as what you recommend always has been working out for me. As murakami , never read her before but you changed my mind and now i love murakami n paulo coelho. ❤ So would love to read this book.

As you said this genre is little less explored and needs bit knowledge of the background, this aspect triggers me to try this. This will serve dual purpose 1. I will know the real life chronology of events. 2. Reading novels will give a different perspective.

Pride and prejudice is my favourite satire and I like this genre because I like the books which contains sarcasm and a hidden lesson.

I had only read 3 books among these, and 1984 was really a wonderful read because it gave me a whole new percpective about freedom,human emotions ,pain ...and lot more.And gullivers travel as u told i have studied it in the curicullum but never approached it in this sense so am going to read it once again for sure👍

One of my favourite comedy books will be “How I braved Anu aunty and cofounded a million dollar company” by Varun Agrawal. I highly recommend you to read this book because its a satire on general Indian society. I purchased few more copies of this book and gave them out to my friends just because I felt like everyone should read it.

My favourite satire would be Ekei Ki Bale Sabhyata by Micheal Madhusudan Dutt. In this masterpiece he has exposed the artificiality of those Bengalis who copied European manners out of context. I simply love the book and I highly recommend each and every person who knows bengali to have a read. Also I think there is an English copy available..do read it..

The book "You Suck" by Paulie Amigo is a fun self-help satire. Recommended.

Animal farm....The best satire for me...I knew basics of russian revolution, communist agendas and karl marx(major)....But because of my bad habit of putting all theories on different angles ...I tried to link it with Indian history...This was when it broke me....I thought what if all our BOXERs died just to make a windmill that served Napoleon and his two legged mens.....It felt like 'निराला ' reciting "अबे सुन बे गुलाब "....they took what was ours and then called us poor and inferior, just like britishers did.

Phil Street's "Days Out. The Funboy3. A catalogue of ridiculous yarns." Is a brilliantly funny read. English humour at its best, and it is toilet paper sized. Available on Amazon.

Tiger for Malgudi by R.K. Narayan is my favorite satire. This book is not famous and this makes me really unhappy because this is such a great book by the author. This books shows the world through the eyes of a tiger. I'm reading Animal Farm and I've Poonachi in my tbr. Thanks for the recommendations.
