One request before I go into my jibber-jabber: please put the books you mentioned in the description. It'd be really helpful. I've always been interested in Indian poetic tradition alongside all things. I surely grab my roots from this spacious civilization, even though I'm currently a Muslim. I'm comparatively deliberate when it comes to introducing myself to new ideas, myths, ideologies, and literature. One of my favorite Indian poets, also a Muslim, once called Ram as the Imam of Hind. Imam is greatest position for a person to obtain in Islam. So, I hope I can contribute in my own way in the series of mythological things you're reading, or anybody else reading this comment might want to read. There are no canon poems in Islam, although the telling of all antique, moral stories and lessons in the Qur'an is poetic to an Arabic ear. All that we, as a relatively young civilization, have is what the Persian poets did for us. The Persian poets emphasized on the Divine Love, rather than being staunch in their attitude towards God or law or anything of the Islamic tradition. The prominent figures are obviously Rumi, Hafez, and others. One of them, about whom Rumi said something like: "We've only crossed the street of the city about which Attar has already repeatedly lurked." Farid-ud-Din Attar, a.k.a. Attar of Nishapur, wrote the poem, "Language of the Birds" (Mantaq-ul-Tair) in which he uses birds as symbols. The reason for that is because birds are innocent (virgin) in their nature, and because they're used to flying and being dynamic; as my Mentor's mentor, Ahmad Javaid, says. It explores the deep themes of Divine love, which's universal in its essence and is applicable to all. It also contains that phonic beauty which's reserved only for the ones who know that language. Yet even in the translated versions of the text, deeper layers of meaning is always lingering there. So I'd really recommend you read it. It can be a gateway for you to enter into Rumi and Hafez also, if you haven't read them already.

Mahabharata should not be kept in home, dear. There's a reason why you will never find Mahabharata in any Indian home. You'll always find Ramayana but not the Mahabharata. These are very powerful scriptures. And, its not mythology. It's our history.
