I loved the book so much! I feel the same way you did when I first started it but once it picked up I couldn't stop reading it! I kept swinging back and forth about how I felt about the Merriweather's. They were just too nice but I'm so glad that they didn't end up being involved in anything and helped Sam out. I thought the same thing about when she went over to their house to do spells! I was like "oh gurl you done messed up." I NEVER thought Viv would be the one behind it all! It totally threw me. I really liked the ending and I really want to read the sequel (Haunting the Deep). I found another series about witches that's an easy read if you're interested. It's called The Witches of Blackbrook. I finished the first book in a day and just started the second.
Discussion Questions are listed below... ALERT!! ALERT!!! SPOILERS AHEAD!!!! TURN BACK NOW IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS!! . . . . Discussion Questions: What was your first impression of the Merriweathers (Ms. Merriweather and Jaxon)? Did you trust them? Did you ever suspect them to be the cause of the current situation in Salem? When did you suspect Vivian? What did you think about the ending? What was your favorite part? What did you think about the ghost make-out sesh? Hot and heavy or awkward?
Jade The Libra there is a sequel book for this called Haunting in The Deep ,same author and its is also really good, same characters and history and all the good stuff
My first impression of Ms. merriwether and her son was that they were just too nice. Like they were the suspicious kind of nice where you go, nope something ain't right lol
I love your energy in this video. I can tell that you really do enjoy talking about this and I love that. Also, this is my new favourite book now. It’s just amazing. And I definitely never suspected Vivian. But maybe I’m just kind of clueless😂
Hey girl heyyy!!! Love you back and no worries!!! So stoked you're joining in for June! The video and poll for the new book just went up, so yayyy!! Super excited for the month's options!
Hi! Your book discussion was really good. I'm from sweden and in my class we read this book. Next week I have an assignmen t based on the book. Can you please do a summary of the book, especially the ending. I find english really difficult and would appriciate your help!
I love these books! Make sure you check out the second book! It's super cool how the author is a Mather and is related to Increase and Cotton Mather! I can't say enough how much I love these! Have you checked out "The Merciless" series?!?! Love those! It's Mean Girls meets The Exorcist !!
I had no idea there was a second book until now!! Thank you for the heads up on that cuz I never would have looked! Also, I read the first book from The Merciless series and couldn't get into it. But, to be fair, I think it may have been bad timing/not the kind of book I was wanting to read at that moment, so I might give it another go. I was drawn to the book itself because the cover is freakin awesome!!! haha! But I think it's time for a revisit or maybe even to dive into the other books in the series.
*cracks knuckles* I am so pumped to answer these questions, I've been waiting for this video for LITERAL WEEKS. First, overall thoughts: I LOVED this book. I work at a bookstore and workers are allowed to borrow books for free, so I read it at work when we were slow. I was SUPER disappointed with the love triangle though, I thought it was wholly unnecessary, and I wish Elijah had remained a brother figure. However, I am glad Sam and Jaxon didn't end up together because the sequel relies on it pretty heavily. Still, though, as much as I love Elijah ((and I LOVE Elijah)), not feeling the romantic vibes. I really loved how much the author delved into Salem's history. I am a huge history nerd, especially regarding anything spooky or creepy, and I have several friends who live in Salem, so the town is very near and dear to my heart. The history didn't feel forced or like we were just getting chunks of textbook-quality info, but there was still a bunch of cool information in there. Overall rating: 9/10 Q&A What was your first impression of the Merriweathers (Ms. Merriweather and Jaxon)? Did you trust them? Did you ever suspect them to be the cause of the current situation in Salem? I didn't suspect the Merriweathers at all, but that might be due to my intense desire to grow into Mrs. Merriweather. I did think Mrs. Merriweather was going to turn out to be witchier than she did though, so I'm a bit disappointed on that front. Definitely called Jaxon being a bit of a douche from the start though. When did you suspect Vivian? I suspected Vivian when she gave Sam the cloak, but the thing that really cemented my suspicions was the medical bill. It was a bit too obvious for my tastes. What did you think about the ending? What was your favorite part? I loved the ending, I was definitely crying at my register when I read it. I was so relieved for Sam's dad, and I thought the part about her getting his mug was so sweet. All in all, I thought everything tied together very nicely and we got a good amount of closure as readers. What did you think about the ghost make-out sesh? Hot and heavy or awkward? SO AWKWARD. SO SO SO BAD. UGH. Like I said before, I wish Elijah had remained as a brother figure to Sam. The entire book hyped him up as a doting brother, and I definitely saw his affection towards Sam as parallel with his affection towards Abigail. I thought the "romance" between him and Sam was forced and uncomfortable and was just being used to add unnecessary drama. Was not feeling it, am still not feeling it. Forgive the long post, I have a lot of feelings about this book. I definitely recommend the sequel as well, but it doesn't focus on Salem very much, sooo that brings it down in my book. Thank you so much for choosing this book; I may not have ever read it without your suggestion.
Ahhh I freakin love your review and I almost forgot about that medical bill situation after getting so caught up in that ending! SOO shady!! Also, I agree with you I LOOOVED Elijah!!! He may have been one of my favorite characters in the whole book, and I was honestly so sad to see him go in the end. Also, I agree that the relationship between Elijah and Sam was a little too awkward and not necessary. I mean, even if the relationship would have remained with the two of them crushing on each other, or like you said, more of a mentor/sibling situation it would have been fine... There's just something about the make out sesh that took things to a whole new level of awkward for me --- to the point where I wanted to hide my eyes! haha! Also!!!! That's so amazing you get to borrow books at work! Not gunna lie, it makes me was to apply for a job there --- ahhh the endless possibilities!!! Are you joining in on June's book of the month? Your reviews/discussion answers seriously rule!
Aw thank you! I just get really excited about books lol. Of course I’ll be taking part in June, where else am I gonna geek out about spooky books? Plus, I’m already reading The Perfect Mother, so at least I’ll have one down lol. 😅
Just finished it. I was on a waiting list at the library.... Anyways same feelings at first I thought it was kind of cheesy and young. But ended up actually enjoying it. It only took me two days to get through it, I have a slow job. Haha The Merriweathers I didn't ever suspect, I liked the Mrs. Character for sure totally trusted her, seeing that she was Charlottes good friend. The son I didn't like too much I thought he was for sure telling Lizzy all the details about Sam. Oddly enough I never suspected Vivian at all until it happened, I was all "woah shit". I just thought she was out for the family money or something. Haha. I loved that the ending tied everything up nicely and I even shed a tear when Elijah had to leave and he left the flower. The make out session I had the same reaction, I pictures her tonguing the air for sure. Lol! Good times for sure I'm excited for this months.
At the far end of the book when Vivian had that transformation. Ann probably did disguised herself as other people throughout the years so no one can suspect her. That’s why Elijah didn’t notice her.
I'm currently obsessed with the "am ember in the ashes" series (because the 3rd book just came out) and I don't know anyone else who has read it so I can't talk to anyone about it with out sounding crazy
i honestly did not like Sam most of the time. she cheated on Jaxon and they just never talk about and they continue on with their lives. she was in love with elijah but still stayed with jaxon
