I don't read too many crime/mystery books, but I've been wanting to check this one out. It just sounds so intriguing!

Strike is in no way suffering from PTSD, he reflects on his time in the army with fondness, this is stated within the book when is reflecting on his turbulent relationship with Charlotte.

Just finished this book yesterday. It was really an enjoyable read! Really loved Strike as a character and Robin really managed to bring out the best in him. The ending was a bit weird but still brilliant! 8/10

Strike isn't suffering from PTSD in the book? Or at least I did not recognise any signs of it. Yes he has only one leg but that is not the same thing as PTSD. PTSD is a mental illness not physical.

+Sinead Walsh Yes, PTSD is mental. I believe I said this because he would often reflect on what happened to himself and the people he was with in Afghanistan. It haunts him and does affect him at times.

I'm a big fan of this and the silkworm. I really enjoy the relationship between strike and robin. I would say more but I think any bit of information could lead to a big spoiler. Quick question-have you read the amazing adventures of kavalier and clay? You should if you haven't. It's one of the best books I've ever read.

Becks just thought you would like to know that you can now watch the BBC TV series of Cuckoo's Calling on RU-vid free of charge. All 3 episodes are there as well as the first episode of the Silkworm, which has just been down loaded. Here is a link to the first episode.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ayE4DdbQWtQ.html

Yes, Robin is such a great character! I thought the mystery was rather standard, but it was still a really interesting read. I think The Silkworm is even stronger, possibly because you are already familiar with the characters and you get so much more background on them, including Robin.

Just finished the Cuckoo's Calling, overall, very good. In my opinion, the book was consistent with other J. K. Rowling books, but a little better in everything. The story had a great start and finish, with a dragging middle. Characters were all interesting and well written. But I'm wondering if anyone else found themselves trying to catch red herrings, as opposed to the actual murderer, or am I the only one? Well I do know I'll be reading the Silkworm as soon as physically possible.

I really liked the book BUT I read it right after the awful piece of crap that was The Casual Vacancy... So I'm not sure if it didn't benefit from that. I'll be reading The Silkworm soon and I guess we'll find out.

C. Strike is fair, thorough & unrelenting in his investigation. To me Robin is the best character (I didn't like anyone in JKR's previous book TCV), but I didn't think a whole lot of her choice of boyfriend. Also, there's another sidekick character vs crime named Robin (Batman series). I just wished RG (JKR) had used another name for his (her) heroine. How soon are you gonna read The Silkworm? I haven't yet. There's a lineup of requests in for it at the library. (-: I heard the Strike series is gonna be longer 'n HP. Given a choice, I'd prefer JKR write more books about the Wizarding World than somewhat better than average modern mystery novels. How do you feel about that?

TimeAndChance The Silkworm is the next book I'm picking it, so I'll be starting it in the next few days. I know the series will be a number of books but I'm not sure if it's going to surpass seven. And, as always, I'd love more books surrounding the Wizarding World, but these are a great alternative!
