Reading The Greek Way makes me think that they were the forefathers of democracy and the greatest guardians of ultimate freedom. We seem to be in need of a refresher course ourselves today in how to live free and flourishing.
I read this last year and I enjoyed it so much! I had read Mythology along time ago and loved it but I hadn’t realized she had written more until last year. I’ll keep an eye out for The Roman Way, now that you mention it.
I'll have to add this one to my list. Currently revisiting Edith Hamilton's Mythology, in prep for rereading The Iliad, both of which I haven't read since high school.
Get ready for a ton of comments because i am bingeing your videos this afternoon😅🤣 LOVE how you brought this around to civil liberties!!! You always have the hot takes 🤣🤣❤
It's because of your recommendation on what books to read to help you get an understanding of Greek mythology I got hooked on Edith Hamilton's works. Since you recommended The Greek Way in one of your past videos (I've read it and thoroughly enjoyed it) I've also gone on to read from her The Roman Way, Echo of Greece and I'm currently working my way through Mythology. Great review as a usual chick, I'm back commenting after my sojourn through life😂 I missed commenting and I'm glad I can get the time to do so again💕
I’ve always turned my nose up at the Hamilton books, I think stemming from a terrible experience with mythology in 7th grade. I’ve hated mythology since then. Right now I’m reading _Ancient Iraq_ by Georges Roux and to my surprise I seem to be undergoing a sea change in my thinking about mythology however. Maybe I’ll get there.
Of course, beside what was assigned in high school and freshman year of college, I have little depth with the Greeks. However, IIRC my teachers in the 4th and the 7th grades taught us from one of the Edith Hamilton publications. This was several years ago, at a time in my life when I believed there was no currency in Paganism. Since then, I've discovered that there many groups who reject Christianity and celebrate Earth religions, like the Greeks did. Unfortunately, it's too difficult for me to accept all that is necessary to take the Greeks seriously. But that's just me, and I feel I have the right to like and dislike according to whatever criteria form my opinions.
She opens basically saying the Egyptians were cowards that submitted to death, but the Greeks said yes to the tragedy of life. The audacity I’m dead 😭😭😭
