So glad you did this review. I went to add this book to my TBR and turns out it's been there for over 3 years ... Can't wait to get to it soon. I love books dealing with gender and sexuality. Definitely in my top ten to read next.

I really want to read The passion... Venice is such an enchanting city to me, and after having read The Daylight Gate, by Jeanette Winterson, I decided to read more of her books :) The daylight gate is about witch trials in England, and it was so different from what I expected considering what other books do with this theme. It was great. If you haven't read it I do recommend! :)

I remember loving her children's book 'Tanglewreck' but her adult work doesn't quite grab me. I'm not sure why.

Hi, I have read The Passion it is an interesting novel as you said ( historical fiction) most importantly is that Villanella has double gender identity... We had this novel in the Exam the question was about gender identity ? I failed 8/20 i have to repeat the exam again... Any advice 😉

I haven't yet!! I think I will read it next, though, as unique sounds great!! Thanks lol... I usually don't let her in the room when I'm filming but she was whining at the door! She's a good dog!

I very timely review, I just finished The Passion this morning! Unfortunately I didn't get along with it. After 3 Winterson's (I've also read 'Oranges' and 'Sexing the Cherry') I just don't think she is for me. I can respect that she is a talented writer but she just can not tie together a cohesive character or a gripping story for me. When reading her I feel like I am connecting the dots between really beautiful, quotable snippets of prose in-between a whole lot of nothing. To be fair, fairy-tale and whimsy are not buzz words that really get me going so I can see why she has the audience that she does but it all does not fit well with me.

Late 1800s??? I thought it's about early 1800s

Yep - I totally mixed it up with Tipping the Velvet, which was set closer to 1900. That's what I get for reading historical fiction and then not looking at my notes!
