Agreed, but on the other hand if you have to travel a lot nothing beats being able to have an e-book reader with a whole bunch of books on at once. Light, compact, and the battery on the kindle brand lasts for weeks between charges. E book readers are also an inexpensive way to get a lot of classic books for which the copyright has expired.
CroweDharmaReloaded No. You're describing nostalgia about the times when there were no alternatives to paper books. People should want more people to read. Electronic books help with that and make life easier for everyone. It also lets more people get their books out. You can get a lot of data from e-books when others have highlighted passages. Electronic books are a good development in literature.
Anon54387 And don't forget about those of us who simply cannot carry dozens of books around, and who literally do not have space to store books at home. E-books are a God sent
Yah thanks its been 5 minutes of this slow of speech clad clapping and Im about to gouge my eyes out. lol. Its like when Librivox lets people with speech impediments read for them. You appreciate their efforts but faaaawwwwk . lol
Being able to watch these two, have a vibrant discussion about life, books and politics. All from my recliner chair during ‘quarantine’, is why I absolutely love RU-vid. Thanks for posting! Begins at 11:00
FINALLY they gave SK a soft chair! When he talked to Lee Childs, he was sitting on a hard chair, and you could tell he was hurting.... don't people know he has chronic pain from the van accident?
I like their laid-back and modest style. Two of the biggest best-selling authors around and they're so down-to-earth and can laugh at themselves. Wonderful. Very entertaining.
Back in the 80's when I was in junior high my mom was concerned that all I wanted to read was Stephen King. She said something to my reading teacher at parent teacher conferances about it. He told her Stephen King is probably one of the greatest writers of our time and will probably go down in history next to Mark Twain. The fact that I was that young and had read that many novels and short stories is amazing. He said who cares what he is reading, he is reading and understands what he is reading let him have at it. He told her he sees kids that are in their teens and never read a novel before. Your kid read "Eye of the Needle" in the fourth grade! After that he started reading King's short stories to us in class. Best teacher I ever had. Then he married my second favorite teacher our band director which would have been awesome except for whatever reason the moved after they got married. I was happy and pissed at the same time lol.
Lol. College. 1984. I happened to memtion Stephen King's name in a paper. The professor gave me a C+ because, as he wrote on the paper, if I think King is a good author I had a lot to learn. Lol.
@@gregrobertson1292 I guess I would ask how many books your professor has sold. Or how many awards he has won. Or his students for that matter. Regardless of what he thinks about the man it is hard to deny King's success as a writer. Then again I suppose if you asked King if he was a good technical writer or a good role model he would probably tell you no.
My two favourite authors in one room is a dream come true. When Grisham spoke something about no one reading all of King's books I said "I have." These two men are such impressive storytellers. I hope they never retire from writing.
I've read everything except the Dark Tower series. For some reason, I never could break into them. I've read most of Grisham, but King is my favourite author and Grisham just tells pretty good legal adventure stories.
In the words of Stephen King, 'You read all my books? I feel bad for you.' I hope that you've also read the greatest stories ever written over the last 3,000 years because, if you spent all those years reading 10,000 pages of Stephen King instead of something really real like Homer or Shakespeare, then I feel very bad for you. It's like reading Twilight instead of The Lord of the Rings. Half of King's books are about 700 pages long and not worth it, objectively.
As an amateur writer, (meaning I'm the only reader of my stuff), I found 'The Litigators' by Grisham to be an excellent example of character creation and development. I re-read 'The Litigators' every year. The other is Stephen King's, 'On Writing'. The unflinching discipline described by Stephen King is awe inspiring. Not long after reading Mr. King's 'On Writing,' I got on an elevator heading down to the lobby at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston. Mr. King was there with a couple of friends, wearing a worn, regulation type Boston Red Sox cap, discussing the Sox game they would be attending later that night.
Two of the greatest authors of the 20th and 21st century. Their books and movies will never be old. They are so good and they will not be with us forever. Stephen in 71 now in 2019. Thank you for having this history.
I love watching Stephens interviews. Especially when he talks with other awesome authors like Grisham. They’re awesome. I love their stories. I love when they talk about their wives, it’s so cute!!! 😝👍🏼⚡️
Mr. King, I have been following your work since a very long time , and I'm only 16 at the moment too. Thank you for publishing books that make my skin crawl and creep me to death!
'...most of my clients went to jail, despite brilliant representation'. 'Stephen King is in the house...'Its by fate I ended up here. These are two humble beings that always stick to their roots. Love 'em both. Our school library has most of their earlier books; hardcover and paperback.
Two incredibly talented and amazing men, humble and funny as well. Simple yet detailed conversation that's also interesting. They spoke about there always being a demand for printed books. There is no substitute for holding a book in your hands, turning pages and seeing your progress as each page as you make your way to the end. I need to have hardcover copies of the books I read.
I love Books on paper. And thank you for posting this fascinating, wonderful conversation between two great writers. (Their sense of humor is priceless!)
king hates trump, he supports the treasonous hillary clinton, mass murderer. figures, he's all about doom and gloom. his movies will be fact in the future after all the chemtrails turn the public into zombies. wait till we're nuked with uranium she and obama sold to russia.
Great discourse. Loved the humour and accounts of the past by both amazing writers. Kudos to Stephen King and John Grisham on their astounding works and a delightful conversation for young writers like me that's always got something to learn and appreciate.
Even his books have a heart like the Stand and The Body, they probably dont realize that he wrote The Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption. They just read his horrors, which btw are supposed to disturb someone, doesn't mean he's a sicko
Loved this interview they are both great authors. Love them both. Loved the interaction between the two. I have to say that I too still want a real book not Ebooks. Especially love the books in hardback. To me I have to have the book in my hand it just reads so much better and is so much better. A world without real books would be a nightmare to me.
When I was in high school we had a reading room for a credit in English. Choose from racks of paperback. Sit in silence and read for an hour, year round. This reading time moved me forward to become a journalist of 30 years, a script writer, a story writer with music and most of all the passion of reading books....but mostly the courage to write books. This concept can be used in all schools and all grades. It was a time to read books at our own pace and choose our own books and most of all experience the wonderful world of books. Best of Luck.
My friend and I recently had a discussion about printed, electronic, and audiobooks. She is a huge King fan! And I prefer Grisham. So watching this video brought me joy this morning. I have tried all three formats and I feel that the printed versions is the only format that fills my soul and that satisfaction after you finish a book. This is an amazing interview and can not thank you enough for all that you both have done and continue to do.
Got to see King live in Dayton, Ohio in June----LOVED that evening hearing him speak----but this is equally awesome, as I'm a huge John Grisham fan too....
This was wonderful to watch. I'll admit, I haven't read Mr. King, but Mr. Grisham, I am a huge fan of. There's something about his storytelling that just keeps you turning the pages. To be honest, I haven't been able to muster up the courage to pick up a Stephen King novel because the one's I found in my local library are HUGE. Perhaps I ought to go and brave one of them and find out for myself what Mr. King is all about. Both are such great guys, you could listen to them talk for ages. Thanks so much for this. It was most wonderful to watch. God bless !
Oh yes, DO muster the courage to grab a King book; don't be scared of the 400+ pages ...you'll wonder where they went. ...he KEEPS you is how I can put it.
I don't do Kindle but I do listen to a lot of audiobooks. I spend a lot of time driving for my job and being able to listen to a story on the road makes me happy 😊
I completely agree with Grisham's assessment. Printed books are never going away. I tried the kindle thing, and it wasn't the same. I barely use it, mostly out of convenience if it's impractical for me to carry a book. I bet even most of the avid readers in my tribe (millennials) would agree.
I get enough screen glare from all my political pursuits on YT and others. If it's beyond a mere online article, I hate reading online. Books are cozy and also tactile and have a distinctive books smell as well.
I'm not a millennial. I have both "real" books and a Kindle loaded with books and don't seem to have an issue reading either. I don't know why there has to be a war about it.
Amazing insight into two great writers. If you want to write, this will inspire you to see these guys and their interview. I have to get back to my novel now. Thanks John and Stephen!
When I was in high school we had a reading room for an English credit. We chose from racks of books and read in silence year round. This reading class encouraged me to become an avid reader, movie script writer, music script writer, journalist of 30 years and move toward writing a book. This program is for all ages in all schools. You are encouraged to read any book you like, finish the book and then move on to next book. Good luck!
Thank You for this great interview of my two favorite authors ...👏👏

Awesome ! I thoroughly enjoyed this . My favourite author Stephen King meets a guy i only ever heard of because of his novels but don't know much about . He seems a great guy and i enjoyed listening to John .
2 of the authors I followed since my younger days sitting together! Thank you for this. Stephen King has very good sense of humour, I like listening to him. Grisham watches "Grease" on his 1st date😁.
I genuinely couldn't tell if Grisham liked SK at first, but a few minutes in to the convo you realize that they're very good friends that enjoy ribbing each other.
I know you won't be happy to hear this, but I buy used books or borrow from the library. I can't afford to buy new books, even paperbacks are beyond my budget these days.
I get lots of good books from thrift shop, etc. I like that it’s been read and it’s not a waste of paper and energy. That’s how I started reading S.K. 35 years ago from a book I found for twenty five cents figured it was time to see what all the fuss was about. 😊
I love Stephen king for giving me SO MANY CHARACTERS that are now a part of my life. I think about them often. I’m skilled at skipping the gross parts. His skills are incomparable. A perfect scenario is when I have the audiobook, hardcover and kindle versions! Right now I’m reading Under the Dome. My last was The Monkey short story and about eight novels before that. ❤️
I've never read any of Grisham's stuff but I was pleasantly surprised to hear his views on the death penalty and his reference to the Innocence Project. I have great respect for anyone who has the courage to stand against the death penalty in this day and age where so many are so very bloodthirsty.
The death penalty is for a very select few. Like child murderers and rapists. People like the Wagners who executed an entire family, two of whom were sleepibg with their infant babies. What about Koglberger, another execution, of four college students. What about Bundy? What about Nicoke Brown Simpson, slaughtered! Sharon Tate, nine months pregnant, slaughtered? Jessica Chambers, burned alive?
I'm pretty sure I would recognize John Grisham too, but maybe it has to do with my kids going to Ole Miss. Although John Meacham spoke at my daughter's graduation! They all had a sense of humor.
Thank you, gentlemen for this. As an aspiring writer who has fairly evenly balanced his time between busting ass to pay bills (or earn a degree) and reading novels, you guys are an inspiration, and we all owe you a debt of gratitude for your time here.
Two of my favorite authors but I love John Grisham more...lol 😉 It's awesome to watch the two of them making fun of each other. I love it. Thank you so much for posting.
A great chat. I remember reading 'Salem's Lot because I was compelled to know what happened and found the film too scary to watch at the time, only to find that the book was just as scary..
One though on Stephen’s humble beginnings, how unfair it is. Both him and his wife were well educated and they still had to live on a poverty line in a trailer somewhere. Such a shame, makes me really angry. They’ve done what needed to be done and the system was still kicking them in the teeth. Really happy they are here today to tell their stories. 💚
Really love Stephen King and have read so many of his novels ... And just recently found Grisham's Time to Kill in a thrift store and absolutely loved it! I cheered at the end!
Greatly enjoyed this... I've read Mr King's account of how he got the news of the Carrie paperback deal in 'On Writing" but it's great to hear him tell it in person. I hope he kept that hairdryer!
Every year Stephen sells film making students the rights to his work for $1. He calls them “Million Dollar Baby” movies. That’s a man who loves the arts, he doesn’t have to do that.
