I love how your reading taste is similar to mine because I literally want to read most of these books. Memphis is on my tbr for this year and I’ve wanted to read small island since 2017 😩. NK Jemisin is another author I want to explore. I don’t really enjoy fantasy but I’m definitely willing to try hers

Memphis sounds good!! That’s a good point, I never thought about how there isn’t really a UK dream or an equivalent to the American dream 🤔

I feel like there isn’t a british dream because the way both countries view success and happiness is very different. Also america is a much younger country in comparison so the undying hope and in your face optimism is of course still going to be there.

I'm a african american can you give me a good example of the different between the ameican dream and the uk dream? The american dream to me is to go to college get a successful career while owning my business. Which a lot of American try to achieve. Is this dream not in the uk? I'm very curious thanks

Just to give a nice little contrast to your other comment, I really wasn't a fan of The Fifth Season 😅 To be fair the story was interesting, but I really hate second person writing soooooo much and half the book was written that way. I had to PUSH to get through it

oooh i love hearing differing opinions on popular books! second person is tricky for me too👀 not the biggest fan, but if it’s done well it’s AMAZING. im excited to see if i do jive with it in the fifth season.
