At the beginning of the video I already knew you wanted to reread HP because the boxset is almost empty on your shelf haha! I am currently rereading HP as well. I'm in book 4 now. They are just... perfect!
"Hogwarts is my home" is how I feel whenever I reread them haha! I also have been wanting to do a reread of Harry Potter but I have been trying to do it for the past two years that I've only read the first two. So I think I'll start on the third book. Also I've only read the 7th book once and that was the day it came out so yeah.... Lol there are also other rereads I want to do like The Girl of Fire and Thorns series
+BookBallads There could not be a more perfect way of describing what it is like reading Harry Potter. I just recently reread The Sorcerer's Stone (it's been about 5 or so years since I've read any of them) and at first I was dumbfounded because I wasn't enjoying it as much. It felt too juvenile. But the further the story developed the more engrossed I became. I had found my way "home" again. :)
I'm familiar with all the open lines too! and harry potter feels so much like home, whenever i'm feeling upset, reading harry potter always cheers me up i love it so much!
I love The Book Thief, I got it from my primary school in year 6 as a leaving present (my school gives a book to children when they leave for high school, it's a pretty cool tradition - I now work there part time and love seeing the new books that each year are going to get). The only time I've ever heard someone personally say anything bad about it was when my nan borrowed it from me last year - she said she got confused at points, but it was good. I loved it so much I bought it for my friend in 2012 for her birthday, and she called me up and well I won't say what she said as I don't want to spoil it for anyone. But I will say despite what she said down the phone she loved it and then went out and bought it for one of her other friends for their Christmas presents. So if you haven't read it but are thinking about I suggest you definitely pick it up it's an amazing read! 😀
I know I'm late to replying, but this is literally the MOST AMAZING BOOK I HAVE EVER READ. Markus Zusak is such an amazing author! The Book Thief honestly changed my life for the better. It really makes you think. (In a good way!)
I never used to reread books, either. This year, I'm tackling Trainspotting and Porno by Irvine Welsh (I haven't read Trainspotting since I was in my mid-teens... The moment I opened up that book, it was like I was back with some really really old friends. It's weirdly comforting). Also, starting last year, I've been reading the Harry Potter series to my sons, which has been going slow and is full of me saying "this is a really good part!" I'm amazed we're nearly halfway through the series, honestly. Good luck with your rereads!
I totally agree , Harry Potter feels like home. I reread these just before Christmas. Book 7 made me cry quite a few times, which has never happened to me before. I find each rereading gives me a different experience! Enjoy your rereading :)
Yes for "The Book Thief"! It is such a good read. This book literally drained me bad emotionally. Just finished "The Series of Unfortunate Events" Jan16. And I'm still reading book 3 of HP. Have fun!
I re read almost every book I've ever read, so is nothing new to me... but lately I've been re reading a lot The Raven Cycle bc I can't get enough of those books, I think I'm going to re read them FOREVER, I LOVE THEM
I totally understand what you mean about feeling like you are back at home whenever you read the Harry Potter books. I just finished re-reading the first harry potter book for my first time and it was such an amazing experience. I was reminded why I love Harry Potter stories so much and how unique J.K. Rowling's writing is.
I had a very similar reading experience rereading Harry Potter. I am almost done with the 7th book and I've enjoyed rereading books six and seven so much! I've probably only read them each twice the whole way through. This was amazing. I hope you enjoy your rereads as much!
Harry Potter = Home Agreed. Just settling down and reading the first line brings a smile to my face. This paired with my Mum coming in, looking at what I'm reading and her exclaiming:' Not again?!' gets me all warm and fuzzy inside.
My boyfriend isn't a big reader (I know...it's a problem) and because of that he has never read the Harry Potter Series. And before two years ago when we started dating, he had never seen the movies either. Now he has seen all the movies more than once and I am reading Harry Potter to him. We just started GoF and it's amazing. I love when we start getting ready for bed because that means Harry Potter time. It's thrilling to watch his reactions to my favorite scenes. Definitely one of my better ideas.
Cheers to that Regan!I'm more of a rereader than I am a reader.Statistically I read more books that I've already read than new ones each year, but that's because I feel like it.I love rereading stories that mean so much to me. I won't stop recommending you the "The Incorrigible Optimists Club" please go and check it out.You are going to love it.It's everything you love!
I've never read "The Book Thief" but I'll take care of that this year!! You are actually right! I should do the same as you about the HP series. Because just like you I read the first one about 10 times and the last only 2 or 3! I'll think about that quite seriously!! But I think I'll read only the 6th and 7th since those two were the ones I read least times. Thank you for sharing! :)
I re-read the Harry Potter series last year during my first year of college. I was pretty unhappy at the time and even though I was 8 hours away from home and miserable in my dorm whenever I started reading it really felt like going home and instantly made me feel better without fail. That series really is magical 😊
The book thief is one of my favourite books too! I made my mum read it and it's now her fav book. I haven't read a series of unfortunate events in agesssss I definitely need to soon!!!
My goodness! You said The Book Thief was your most worn out book, it looks good as new! But omg yes I want to reread A Series of Unfortunate Events too!!
I have the same problem! 90% of the books that I claim are my favorite books of all time I have only read once. I plan on rereading The Lovely Bones, but I come to a stalemate on choosing another one to read because I want to reread them all!
I really want to reread Vicious by V.E. Schwab. It's one of my all time favorites and I know Victoria Schwab has been working on a vicious related project whether it's a prequel, sequel, or just takes place in the same world.
Said this one Jessie's channel too but there are so far only really two books I feel like rereading. 1. The Night Circus. It was just so unique and wonderful and unlike pretty much anything else I've ever read. It just had such a wonderful aura about it. Unless of course the author feels like publishing more this year in which case I would jump all over that. And 2. The Magicians. Not because it's becoming a show but because I read it ages ago while I was in school and I while I own the rest of the trilogy, I never got around to finishing. I remember most of the book but feel like it could use a revisit.
I'm hoping to re-read more books this year as well, mainly those I've called my favourites but haven't looked at since the first read. I agree with you wholeheartedly about the Harry Potter series feeling like home, they're packed with nostalgia and awesomeness. I hope you enjoy your re-reads :D
I like to reread book when I'm in a reading slump, I mostly reread cute contemporary books. Since I spent so much money on books I want to get their money's worth out of it. I'm also with you on always wanting to reread the Harry Potter series from book 1, it usually takes me the entire year to read all of them and then I can just start on book one again in the next year.
I love re-reading books and I totally agree with you that re-reading Harry Potter books does feel like home :D I am currently re-reading Poison Study by Maria V Snyder which for the 50th time (or somewhere around there lol).
I've also been meaning to reread The Book Thief since the movie came out (which I haven't seen because I needed to read the book again). So far this year, I've reread The Son of Neptune (audiobook- for like 4th? time) and The Raven Boys. I plan to reread the rest of the Raven Cycle before the final book. As a general rule, I'd like to reread series before the new books because I find I'm so much more invested that way. Also, I'm going to reread the PJO series (for the millionth time, but in French as practice).
I'm currently doing a re-read of Harry Potter and just started Half-Blood Prince yesterday. It took me way longer than it should have to read Order of the Phoenix, but it was still worth it. Ahh the memories.
Ohh, now I want to re-read A Series of Unfortunate Events now. I'm planning on re-reading Jane Eyre this year. April is Charlotte Bronte's 200th birthday, so I'm thinking that'll be the month. :D
REGAN. WHAT. NPH AS COUNT OLAF. My day has been made, thank you for making life beautiful and great video by the way!!! I love rereading books, and there are definitely some I really need to pick up again (like Daughter of Smoke and Bone)
Yes, opening a book and it feels like home is amazing! Harry Potter is definitely a series in which I feel that! I want to reread Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine but in June because the 2nd book, Paper and Fire, comes out July 5th. I also want to reread a classic or two, haven't decided which yet, and the Mortal Instruments.
I plan on re-reading 1984 (which I always say is my favorite book but I haven't read it in forever! I also put a slip in my TBR jar to re-read a book with this book in mind). And I also want to re read A Series of Unfortunate Events. I read book 1 in 2015. I never read the last book, so this is high priority for me! Haha.
I love The Book Thief. It's one of my all time favorite books. I might have to re-read it sometime soon. I do have a few books that I'd like to re-read - I'm working my way through the Song of Ice and Fire series, but I'm going slowly, as I want to be finishing up Dance With Dragons by the time Winds of Winter comes out. So I'm hoping to get to Storm of Swords this year (I read GoT and CoK last year). I also want to read The Dark Tower series, as I've only ever read the first 2 books, which I'll be re-reading as I go through the series.
I'm hoping to reread The Book Thief as well! I haven't read it since like eighth grade, I think. I'm also planning on reading the His Dark Materials series because that series really helped influence my thinking when I was younger, and I'm curious to see how it would affect me now.
I read 13 reasons why back in 2010 and I want to re-read it since it's becoming a show on Netflix. I also want to re-read Unwind because I found out it was a series and it only made me more excited!!!
Hi Regan! What I would advise is to listen to the Harry Potter books. I, myself, have read them like 5 times already and now I'm just listening to them (while I am at the gym or doing the house chores). It is a very different experience (I find myself laughing out loud alone or cheering when I hear something great happening, or smiling)... It is very entertaining and Stephen Fry has a really great voice for it. You should try :)
I'm awful at re reading books too, so the only book I always come back to is the book thief, and I'm reading it right now for the third time. Still adore it.
I've been re-reading Harry Potter slowly over last year, and I'm gonna start Order of the Phoenix soon! I've also only read Deathly Hallows once! I kept re-reading the series as they were coming out but I somehow never did a full re-read once they were all out which is ridiculous. But I get exactly the same feeling, opening the books just feels like coming home!
I'm rereading The Book Thief right now and it was such a good decision. It's been about five years since I read it and I've watched the movie twice since but I'd forgotten how great the book is and just the little things that make it stand out. I'm going to try and reread The Inheritance Cycle this year too, and probably The Bronze Horseman trilogy as it's my favourite.
I wanted to re read HP last year, I bought a new set and everything, but I ended up being so busy with Uni that I just bought the audiobooks and listen whenever I had time and finished the first two books in no time.
Need to reread 13 Reasons Why, Making Faces, City of Bones, Paper Towns and I'll Give You The Sun. And also maybe Eleanor and Park. Half of these are because I've practically forgotten them, it's been so long.
I love your Harry Potter covers (that sounds so weird but I have all the old ones and I really want the new ones). But I need to reread so many books this year (Percy Jackson because I've read all of the Heroes of Olympus as they came out and I'm forgetting parts of the series) and maybe some contemporary ones because I hardly read them and one of my resolutions is to read more books out of my comfort zone (aka fantasy and sci-fi)
I totally suggest the audiobooks for ASOUE! I've listened to all of them twice... and you can listen for free on RU-vid :) NOT TO MENTION it's narrated by Tim Curry and he's amazing 😂
I'm rereading the Mistborn trilogy at the moment and I've just finished rereading Fangirl. Also hoping to get to The Shadow of the Wind as well as the Throne of Glass series later this year. :)
I feel you with the Harry Potter re-reads. I always start get to book like 3 and then stop. Same with watching the movies though. I have watched 1-4 so many times but after that I always stop. And when I want to watch them again I just have to start with 1 again. I think I have seen the last movie only twice which is absolutely ridiculous.
Mmm this year I wasn't planning in re-read anything because I have a TBR longer as long as your arm, but now I have seen people want to re-read some of their favourite ones, I want to re-read something. In my list is The story of Mr Sommer by Patrick Süskind, Asking for trouble by Elizabeth Young and The rights of the reader by Daniel Pennac :)
Ditto, I need to reread the HP series too. I reread the first three in the early part of 2015, but stopped there because of work and school. Also, I want to reread some books I read as a middle schooler Across Five Aprils, Rifles for Watie, The Giver.
I want to do my annual reread of HP (except with the fancy new illustrated edition of the first book!) but I'm waiting for it to be closer to the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
I've actually adjusted my GR reading challenge number to accommodate rereading books (because, for some reason, in my head, only new books count for the challenge...?? I dunno), so yeah, I've got a list. Most important are basically all of Rainbow Rowell's books (started the year with Eleanor & Park, yay!), The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon because I WANT to read The Mime Order and I feel like I forgot too much of TBS to just jump back in. And Making History by Stephen Fry. (Brand new on the list is Aristotle & Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz which I've just finished this afternoon but am not really willing to let go yet. Like, at all...) That's a start, right..? :) Oh, and I also always did what you did with rereading Harry Potter. And I've never gotten to book 7 either. And I think I reread book 6 that last time right before book 7 came out. Hmm.
I am the exact same every time I want to reread Harry Potter. I reread the first four around ten times each before the last three came out and every time I've tried to reread to get to those last three I just stall out because I have the first four practically memorized. It's a vicious cycle. Last year I decided I wasn't going to try to reread any of the first four until after all four of the illustrated editions were released because I think that'd hold my attention pretty well. But I really want to reread the last last three. Maybe I will do so when you do. xD I hope youa re able to get to all your rereads this year so you feel accomplished!
I have the exact same problem with the Series of Unfortunate Events. I loved them when I was younger and I know exactly what book 1,2 and 3 are about.. But the rest?? I have no idea!! So that's a series I would really like to re-read someday. I'm not a big re-reader either. I only re-read Harry Potter every year in December. That's it. I would like to re-read the Grisha trilogy and the Throne of Glass series because I thought they were so exciting that I just flew through them really quickly. So I would like to re-read those and really take the time to read them! Love your videos! OK BYE!
I really want to re-read the Zamonia series by Walter Moers not only because my friends were asking me to create a pen-and-paper in this universe and then I realized how many things I forgot.
i really NEED to know where to find that version of the harry potter books! i can already imagine having it on my shelf one day and my child asking about the books with the castle. and then reading them to my child like returning to the cozy castle that had been on my shelf until that time
I really want to reread my favorites by Sarah Dessen like This Lullaby and Just Listen. I want to reread all of Stephanie Perkins' books. I want to reread all of the vampire diaries because I loved them so much. And of course I want to reread Harry Potter because... It's Harry Potter
I want to reread the Percy Jackson series over the summer, because I just bought the new covers. Now I want to reread the Series of Unfortunate Events too lol.
I do the same thing with Harry Potter. I've read the first one so many times. But I've also read the seventh one a ton of times. It's the ones in the middle I haven't read as many times.
Yeah I feel the same with HP also but two of my books of Hp. But the two books are so fragile that I need to re buy lol. 4 & 5 I want to get to but those are the fragile ones and lol my book 7 I read twice and that when they came out. Those I want to re read and of course my pretty little liars series.
your Harry Potter experience is the opposite of mine. years ago I started with Goblet of Fire and then I continued chronologically from 1. I guess I've read goblet of fire the most, followed by Half blood prince & deathly hallows. ;-)
My copy of the illustrated Sorcerer's Stone will be here tomorrow and I know that reading that, especially that version, is just going to make me want to read them all again. And I love those paperbacks you have...but my wife and I already have 3 copies of every HP book, and we'll have the illustrated ones as they release so I can't justify buying those paperbacks, right? Oh my god...I'm trying so hard to not Amazon the shit out of them right this second....
Haha, I know exactly what you mean with Harry Potter. I've read the first book soooo many times it's crazy, as I always aimed to reread them as each book came out. As a result I have also read the last book just once, which feels like a crime. This year I'm rereading one Roald Dahl book a month. This month I read Matilda and we haven't decided which book to pick up for next month yet.
