In my plays, most of the time the players already have their turn planned when it comes to them so it moves at a good clip. We've gone 75 minutes for a 4 player but never 2 hours... i agree that the first player doesn't get to plan for the chronicle but as I'm sure you can admit one page is usually the more beneficial page to use. To throw a number on it we probably had an actual decision on which chronicle page to trigger 4/5 times out of 15 turns
Not being able to plan for it does hold that player up quite a bit. Even then the Chronicle does throw in an essence of "oh that page was just what i needed" element.
I’ve been eying this game for a few weeks since I first learned about it; I am very intrigued. But you mentioned the low replayability, rightfully. That worries me greatly. I play with fellow gamers who will push this game to its limits after a few plays, and not being able to shake things up is not great.
Yeah after a while it's losing some of its lasting appeal. I mean honestly when did you see it last played or talked about online? It's already forgotten by the general public.
It’s amazing how the nostalgia of clicking those binders can be so polarizing. For every person like me who was first drawn to this game specifically for that click, there is someone that is completely turned off by it and won’t even try the game. Fascinating.
I’m curious what the inside of the box looks like. The box seems large relative to the components sitting on the table. I’ll have to check out an unboxing.
Great review Luke, ended up ordering it from Kienda today - Looks just like the perfect solo or two player puzzle for me personally Have to see how much staying power it has going forward but looking forward to getting this one tabled!
Great review Luke. Wish I had picked this up at UKGE now for solo play, oh well, maybe someone will have it for trade at some point or I'll pick it up at Christmas.
I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed this one solo as that will be my primary way of playing it. My copy arrived 2 days ago and I have yet to get it to the table, but hopefully soon! Thanks again for the review, Luke!
Not sleeve-able makes it a no- no for me....I genuinely do not enjoy playing games where the cards arent sleeved and they get manipulated. Every game I own is sleeved- the only exception being Parks (due to the insert) and ISS Vanguard (only the section cards are sleeved).
I am 100% the opposite. I feel sleeved cards look weird, hard to shuffle, and the worst part, feel terrible. I love the feel of holding cards. I will never spend a penny on sleeves and am so glad none of my gamer friends do either.
I like sleeving cards but only when necessary - bad cardstock, gorgeous imagery, maybe there's not many cards so it's not expensive or when they are handled by people frequently.
My biggest gripe with the game is theres no competivness, its too solo focused. If there was cards that could remove cards from others displays or disrupt there play somehow id like it more. 7/10
So far everything I have seen about this game it makes me want to stay far away from it. I don't even want to hear the click click click of binders when someone near me is playing it. I'm glad that you say it is best for one or two people, so I don't have to feel bad about not liking it, because I usually play with 3 to 5 people at a time.
