This was a very good tutorial. Just wanted to give some feedback. Some of the changes you were making in certain files, not always did you give a brief explanation of what those files and edits were for. The other thing, maybe use notepad++ when editing or anything else that makes it easier to see the cursor, I was struggling to find where you were sometimes lol.
Thank you for the feedback. I'll definitely take this into consideration next time. I do use Notepad++ quite a bit. I'll be mindful of that next time. As for why I don't make videos all of the time... I mainly started this channel for my Second Life tutorials, but I've lumped in other videos here and there for things I find interesting. I don't really want it to blow up, to be honest. It's just a hobby. I'm retired and don't want it to become like a job. Best regards.
Dear BookStack Devs, MAKE IT ONE THING! Installing this should be a most three clicks. 1) Double click in installer 2) Confirm that you want to install it 3) Enjoy having bookstack. No command line crap. No installing five other things. ONE THING.
any solutions for this error ? when i do php artisan migrate SQLSTATE[HY000] [1044] Access denied for user 'librarian'@'localhost' to database 'bookstore' (Connection: mysql, S QL: select table_name as `name`, (data_length + index_length) as `size`, table_comment as `comment`, engine as `eng ine`, table_collation as `collation` from information_schema.tables where table_schema = 'bookstore' and table_type in ('BASE TABLE', 'SYSTEM VERSIONED') order by table_name)
Check your .env file to ensure it has the correct settings for database name, username and password. It's saying access denied, which means it can't open the database. Verify that the password is correct for your user in phpmyadmin.

The official statement from the developer: "BookStack only really supports being used on a single host URL for a single BookStack instance." You may be able to get it to work with a proxy server, but I have never tried it myself.
Thanks for these instructions. When I get to part 14:49, logging into the Bookstack web site for the first time, when I enter in the url I just get a page saying "Example Domain This domain is in use il illustrative examples in documents. You may use this domain in literature without prior coordination or asking for permission." I'm sure I missed a step but I've been back and forth over the instructions and can't find what I'm doing wrong. Any advice?
Sounds like you didn't set one of the domain settings to localhost. Go through the part where I edit the configuration files and check every setting where I changed the URL to localhost. Worst case scenario, you could go to the Bookstack Discord channel and ask for help. discord.gg/ztkBqR2
Hi, I can't get past granting permissions to the 'librarian' user. When I attempt it, the SQL server just crashes after I press 'go' -> #2006 - MySQL server has gone away. It clearly crashes so hard that there's nothing in the error logs, and I just cannot work out why!
I did a search on the error. It seems to be a packet size issue. In the XAMPP control panel click on the MySQL Config button, then select my.ini to edit the config file. Change the packet size (max_allowed_packet=1M) to something higher than 1 megabyte (I've seen 8M or 16M suggested) and save the file. You may have to stop and start the MySQL server. The only other help I can give is to search the MySQL error number 2006 for other possible causes.
I would defer to the Bookstack website on this one. I've never done it myself, but I assume you would specify in your configuration files and then set up the appropriate security certificates and/or all that it requires. @@lawtonsteele1734 you atually have to change app_url in env to say localhost:8080 and hten go into the xampp\apache\conf\extra\httpd-vhosts.conf - you should edit the whole file, as the one in tutorial strictly says it's for http only and hot https, configuration will depend on your environment it must contain something like this SSLEngine on SSLCertificateFile "${SRVROOT}/conf/ssl/server.crt" SSLCertificateKeyFile "${SRVROOT}/conf/ssl/server.key" I haven't tried to install the app so I don't have the whole file to paste here. I'm writing this just from experience on apache
