Boom Sonic Has The BEST Sonic Design 

As a sonic fan that became a sonic fan after the nostalgia phase (a.k.a. childhood), I can say without any bias that this design is just really eh. This is subjective, but I think most of the hardcore sonic fans could agree with these takes. (Let's judge the model by this render 0:11 ) Negatives: - the iconic quills shape is lost thanks to the unnecessary little quills - the bandana doesn't really fit sonic as a character. It is only there to cover up his weird looking neck (yes, he really has one in this model). - tapes are placed randomly. Like why would he put tapes on his shoes, can't he just get new shoes if they are broken? The literal gold collector, yet somehow the brokest living being on mobius. - the textures look boring, it doesn't even look like a fur. It is especially noticeable here 1:52 - the fur color is super inconsistent. Sometimes it looks good (dark blue), sometimes it's whatever 1:52 - the arms color The basic negatives with modern sonic model, that are still present in this model: - muzzle is straight - eyebrows are really thin - the another eyebrows (the ones that make him look like he blinked) are blue. The technical problems that make this model look even less good: - The lighting is super bland even in renders. - the poses are mostly just boring. (except for this one 0:04, that's a good one) Positives: The expressions he can do with his face are quite good. Though they are just exaggerated expressions, not expressions that make sonic's true personality show off even more. At least, it's nice to have. I don't have issue with him being tall or whatever, and I think there was some potential. But, it's not made with logic and thanks to the direction the boom series went (younger audience, sitcom), this model not only looks worse then the original one, but it's also used in such a way that it sucks even more. I would've typed here how I would handle these design, but this comment is already too long. Eitherway I respect that sonic boom was your childhood, and I understand your opinion. I didn't think the blue arms were that bad until 1:14 that looks so cursed for some reason, it only looks good on Boom Sonic somehow 😭

being tall and lankey makes him just so much more expressive, flexible and animated. Also, people need to realize that blue arms helps with modelling and animation. His arms were only skin-colored so they wouldn't blend into his body in the original spritework. A lot of sonic characters that were introduced later, like, even shadow, have arms that match the rest of their fur/quills.

There is stuff I love about the design, like the small extra spikes, the sports tape around his arms is neat, and I especially like the scarf, but I absolutely HATE the way his shoes look, and the fact that the tape goes around his shoes as well, like please Sonic just buy some new shoes, those are the cheapest looking sonic shoes I've seen.

His design isn't too bad. All of the Sonjc boom designs arent that bad except Boom Knuckles.

I think peoples shit on Boom designs a little much. Boom had the balls to change those beloved design and tbh I get why people were unhappy to see that. My opinion on the new design are : - Sonic is fine, I don't really like the sports tape and the shoes however I kinda like the bandana it's maybe unecessary but I like it - Tails is honnestly good, I very much like it - I don't like Knuckles, his proportions and his head are oof - I like Amy and this more action girl style - I pretty much don't care about this new Eggman design, I do think that he lacks some personnality to him - Shadow is okay, his head in the games is... weird with how the spines go to the back I'm happy for you to see that you love this design for Sonic keep it up man!

Same thing Boom was being pushed when I 1st became a Sonic fan so I just really like Sonic Boom to this day bc of nostalgia bias. 💀

Blue is the superior arm color, no one can convince me otherwise

When Boom was good, it was great. While the modern Sonic design is perfect to me, i wouldnt be aginst adding Boom elements to it for a change of pace. 1. A red, black and white scarf instead of that nasty brown one 2.fix the tape on his legs 3.replace the tape on his arms with gloves Tails just needs his belt streamlined and maube some more color in his clos Amy's is near perfect. Clean it up a tiny bit and add some red to balance the pink. Thetes great fan art with good redesignsbof the characters out there. Knuckles just needs either gauntlets or gloves. Mabe a pair of pants and his cowboy hat.

Finally, someone who gets it! I do like the design, and also believed the sports tape could cover up some scars. And Sonic Boom is my favorite of the Sonic shows.

Good for you, man. I personally love the sonic movie design because of them putting sonic’s mouth right in the middle of his muzzle. Makes him look cute or cool while at the same time making him look an unexperienced, fitting for his character. At least in my opinion.

I wish Sega decided to keep these boom designs and redeem the verse as they did with modern Sonic, these designs are what drew me to Sonic more than ever. People can say what they want it's a free world but my opinion is mine, Sonic boom Sonic has the coolest design, heck I am starting a fan fic using the boom characters and other modern characters I'll give boom designs

I feel like a lot of the hate boom sonic gets is less from hating the design itself and more because of the fact that the boom games range from decent to dumpster fires, and the one anyone actually knows about is the dumpster fire.

My favorite thing about boom sonic is his proportions The regular 3d modern sonic has huge hands and a small body which makes poses with him look awkward, boom sonic is more taller and I think it works great

I like to call myself a new fan, as I became interested only after frontiers. As someone with limited experience, I think that, aside from some hypothetical of midway between the adventure and classic styles, boom has the best design for sonic. Translate their clothing into the main Canon, and they all look good except knuckles, who could still be put halfway

His arms being blue doesn’t even matter, his arms were only tan so that they could be distinguishable with the rest of his body in the sprite art, it doesn’t really matter that much in a 3d environment

My personal favorite part of the redesign is the smaller appendages. They seem like they'd be so much easier to work with and make poses read way better

honestly i agree with all of this but in my opinion i feel like boom sonics design feels like a sonic thats a little bit older because to me the extra tiny quills feel like on the boom design he grew them out over time and the model for boom sonic is noticeably taller

I agree with you. Boom Sonic has the best design. He looks so cool, and is way better than his classic and especially his modern design. The modern design felt bland and lacking, and somewhat ugly looking to me (since I did grow up with Sonic Boom as my introduction to the Sonic franchise, it did take a lot of getting used to when it comes to me first looking at the modern design.) It doesn’t help from the fact that it’s less expressive and not really that good, save for a few cutscenes and Sonic Unleashed. If you told me Modern or Classic Sonic had any other power that’s not super speed (like super strength), I would’ve believed you. Boom Sonic’s sports tape honestly gives him more personality and complements his long legs. I actually prefer long legs. The long legs makes him look like a runner. And the brown bandanna does look really cute on him. Maybe it’s just because I’m a sucker for scarfs and bandannas. It also gives more of a jungle sort of vibe when it comes to the bandanna. The extra small lil spikes look cute, it makes him look fluffy and adds a bit more to his edgy, personality (get it?) Him being tall and lanky also makes him look more expressive and fun. Also, blue arms >>>>> peach arms. Tails looks far better too, and although his design didn’t really change much in Boom, I do like the addition of the longer gloves and the goggles headset, he looks like an inventor (which he is). Knuckles actually does look very good in Sonic Boom. Sure, his proportions are weird (and I do personally like his weird proportions), but just like with Boom Sonic, it kind of fits his personality and strength. Only thing I would change is that I would give him a cowboy hat. Amy’s design in Boom is perfection. I love her dress, and her shoes looking like paws is just adorable. Shadow just looks the same with longer arms and legs. No comment. Boom Eggman? He might not look like an egg, but he’s a handsome egg. I also did notice a subtle thing about the Boom designs that I almost never noticed in the Modern. In the modern designs, they all look the same, with very few distinctions, and I still do think that the peach arms look ugly. Classic Sonic at least has an excuse because he looks adorable. Modern? Nope. With the Boom designs, everyone has given each different sports tape and designs for their personalities and their jobs. Sonic has sports tape in his forearms and shins because he is a runner, and because he often gets injured in these areas. The reason as to why he doesn’t wear it through his entire arms or legs is because he wants some movement to run while looking stylish and hiding his scars in the process. He wears the brown bandanna because he probably needed something to keep warm around his neck. The blue arms are probably a puberty thing. Tails wears sports tape on his shoes because he’s an inventor, and needs to buckle his shoes while flying. Knuckles has sports tape on his arms (as well as forearms and shins) is because since he uses super strength and is clumsy, he tends to get injured the most. Battle scars~) and just like Sonic, he also wants a comfortable way to run and fight. Amy only has sports tape on her arms because she needs a tighter grip for her to swing her hammer (and because sports tape on her legs feels weird to her.) Overall, I love the Boom designs and they look WAAAAYYYY better than the Modern designs. They are more expressive and fun, and just charming. Am I also speaking on nostalgia because I grew up with the Sonic Boom TV show when I was younger? Yes. Did I ever change my stance? No. Edit: wow, I did not mean to write an entire essay as to why I preferred the Boom designs… :0

I can see where you're coming from tbh. Plus, the modern design is kinda ugly and we've been stuck with it for too long (and they never managed to make it look particularly good through animation either, except in like the opening cutscene of Unleashed). We're way overdue for another redesign if you ask me, and taking notes from Boom Sonic's expressiveness and proportions would go a long way to make it easier to work with than what we have now.

sonic boom was a really good show i never got the game so dont know how that is but the show is great and funny.

One thing I love about Boom is the emphasis on the "animal-ness" of the characters, especially on the villagers. He may still not look like a hedgehog, but he does look more animal-ish IMO. Especially on the 3DS, he looks a lot like a small animal (such as a squirrel or an actual hedgehog etc.) for the werid proportion of the model. Plus it fits well for a more slow paced game like ROL or for locations found in the same game and in the show. Yeah, it's not bad at all, just another take on the character. He may be taller, chiller and even more ironic than modern Sonic, but he's still totally recognisable as Sonic The Hedgehog. Same with the rest of the team, Eggman etc.

Honestly though in retrospect, it's not a bad design. I love the shoes, the sports tape ain't bad, and I love how they made the quills a little spiker! My only complaint is that he should've been kept as his original height. Also boom Amy looks way better than default Amy in my opinion. It's just boom Knuckles, and Tails that look weird in my opinion!

Adventure Sonic or perhaps CD Sonic is the best design I'd say. But I wouldn't say Boom Sonic is that far behind.

While i don't think it is the worst design, that title belongs to movie Sonic. This design is rather dated and kind of only works where it is now and not anywhere else

I honestly didn't see any problems with the design also what is wrong with sonic having blue arms movie sonic has blue arms and people love him (NOT HIS OLD DESIGN) and I see where you are coming from, I don't even need to watch the video I completely understand why people would like the design and the scarf just puts it all together very well.

also The reason why boom sonic doesn’t work as a sonic design and why a lot of people dislike it which is justified is that sonic is really tall and sure that seems normal but unfortunately it doesn’t make any sense considering sonic is a hedgehog sure he’s a cartoon hedgehog but Who would make it quite difficult maybe even impossible to curl up into a ball if he was that tall and the same thing with the shoes where it comes to a point where the shoes look like sonic shoes into where they’re not it’s exactly why the soap shoes still have that band in a shaped like sonic shoes it wouldn’t make sense to play sonic design was completely different pair of shoes

and considering the games take place at least a couple weeks after the next game even though more likely a couple months after Sonic would more likely than not have enough time to heal so the bandage idea doesn’t make much sense
