Welcome to Episode 47 of Boomer Guitar Sessions! I'm excited about today's episode, "Midlife Guitar Conversations," because it touches on a subject that's near and dear to so many of us in the 50+ crowd. It's about the unique and rewarding journey we take with our guitars at this stage of life.
I'm thrilled to be joined by a true legend in the world of guitar education, Dave Rubin. For over 30 years, Dave has been a driving force in guitar education, authoring over 150 books, mostly through Hal Leonard Publishing. His work includes the renowned Inside the Blues series and countless Signature Licks and Guitar School titles. Dave has collaborated with some of the greatest names in blues, rock, and beyond, bringing their stories and techniques to life for guitarists everywhere.
Dave's contributions go beyond the written word. He's been the musical director and bassist for the Cherry Lane Johnny Winter DVD, the musical director for the Star Licks DVD series Legends of the Blues, and was even featured in the 12-Bar Blues accompanying video for his book, which was nominated for a Paul Revere Award in 1999. If you’ve ever explored Hal Leonard’s Guitar Instructor site, you’ve probably come across his lessons.
As a journalist, Dave has penned articles for Guitar Player, Guitar World, Guitar School, and many more, including his current column, "Nuggets," for Guitar Tricks Insider. His dedication to the craft earned him the 2005 Keeping the Blues Alive Award in Journalism from the Blues Foundation.
In this episode, we'll dive into the guitar journey of midlife, exploring the challenges, the joys, and the unique perspectives that come with being a guitarist at this stage of life. Whether you're reigniting an old passion or discovering the guitar anew, this episode is for you. Let's get started!
As always, ENJOY THE PROCESS!!
