The most accurate and frustrating part about his character was that he always won and never received punishment. Kickball game? His team won at the expense of small children. The park? Bought it after he purposefully brought the value of the area down. Jasmine's lemonade stand? Stacked so many fees against her, she owed HIM money.
I love Ed Sr. He's such an irredeemable scumbag who always gets away with screwing people over, but he's so remorseless and smug about how untouchable he is that I can't help but find him likeable. Closest he ever got to losing was when the false flag terrorist attack against Dan the security man failed and Dan managed to escape, and even then he got off with no repercussions.
There are many characters from Ed Asner I remember very well. Santa Claus, Carl Fredricksen, Sergeant Mike Cosgrove, and Ed Wuncler. And all of them were performed beautifully and phenomenally by Ed. People like him don’t come around very often. I sure am gonna miss him.
Your missing my personal fave. "You know the name of the game, your girl chose me. Now we can settle this like gentlemen, or we can get into some ol gangster shit."
I love how Ed Wuncler I represents “The Man” so well that he can do whatever he wants without repercussions (since he’s so unbelievably rich and owns lots of establishments).
I just came in for his classic line in response to the request at 1:21 but....the way he went in on the lemonade stand episode was too funny with that stutter. LOL!!!!!
I had a mean teacher in the 5th grade who used to eat cheese during class and i’d look at her like tf you doin but when the episode came out it made me realize the stereotype lmfao
Older me now sees that Wuncler was taking granddad for a ride - catering to his needs as a means to an end; and it worked. Sucking out that retirement.
Mary Tyler Moore show as Lou Grant live performance. J Jonah Jameson, Carl Freakinson, Granny Goodness, Mr. Dragnet, Uncle Ben and lots of other voice characters on television
OMG you dont have the part when he says to tom. "We could settle this like men, or this could turn into some good old gangster shit." my favourite part :(
