It makes way more sense to be an independent artist. The major label system is antiquated from a time when you needed them to be known, promoted, and marketed. These days, one can be independent and create their own buzz with the plethora of doable avenues these days. No label loans, no 360 deals, no dividing the revenue between a ton of entities, it's not needed if one is talented and/or otherwise taps into a buzz with a charismatic personality. The only real issue is sticking out since the whole thing is democratized and so many more people can do it.

It only makes sense if the $45,000 is his piece AFTER the splits. Because that amount for 1B streams is much lower price per stream than any of the major platforms are giving artists today. It’s still a screwed system, it’s still a small fraction of a penny - but it’s not THAT small a fraction of a penny on Spotify, RU-vid Music, and Apple

They don't know how to develop artists anymore and sure AF don't know how to market them outside of beef. A group I used to film for turned down a 360 deal with Atlantic Records without even hiring a lawyer to negotiate. Shortly afterwards the group disbanded.

I’ve put together from different videos that 1M streams is around $6k (that might be the furthest from the truth) 1 billion should be around $6M.. if you have a hit song with 1B on RU-vid and say it’s also on Spotify and Apple, you should make a decent amount. even if it’s split 5 ways and recouping other expenses. snoop might need to evaluate his team

Something is not adding up tho! Bowie died 2016, and Vanilla got sued short after the song got major success,1990ish. So what he is telling happened after 2016. But before that wikipedia said this: "After representatives for Queen and Bowie threatened a copyright infringement suit against him, the matter was settled out of court, with Van Winkle being required to pay financial recompense to the original artists.[16] Bowie and all members of Queen were also given songwriting credit for the sample." So basically Vanilla didn't get much of the earnings out of "Ice Ice Baby" until recently.
