Having just started bowling this year, and never experienced a league before, I decided to get into a summer fun league just to see what it's like. I bowled horribly! It took me the entire season to understand my equipment and learn how to get it to work for me. I made sure to listen to the advice of my fellow bowlers, and put it into practice. I watched a TON of videos on YT and asked questions (content creators have been awesome btw). I started out the league with my typical scores being between 50-110. Now my scores typically range from 170-211. Learning about surfacing, speed, hand position, where to throw, etc. took time, but has been worth it. I still need to find a good video that explains targeting, but for now I am throwing the best way that each of my balls tell me to. Hopefully someday I will be successful at hooking the ball like you do on here. I'd love to get that arcing motion going down the lane, instead of playing straighter shots with backend. I'm signing up for Fall leagues. Hopefully, I get put on one or can at least sub, because my local alley will never be available to bowl casually and I don't want to forget what I've spent months learning.
Just closed out 2 summer leagues where I was averaging 125. Been relearning to bowl after a 10 yr break and still working through an achilles injury on my push off leg. Friday night I had my single best game of 172 and series of 454. I was finally able to pick up more spares as things were starting to click for me again. Only opened in 3 frames on the best game and the math of missing out on 11 pins per open frame sounds about right. Always appreciate the info and prospective.
Good tips for sure, especially emphasizing the value of consistently making your spares. I went out to practice yesterday and had games of 214-235-205 for a nice 654 series and a 218 average. This is good for me, as I usually average 194 or so in league. It helps me a lot to bowl faster than is possible in league. Anyway, not bad for a 75 year old geezer. lol
This is all good advice. My house is unlike most houses in that they purposely make their house shots difficult. They are very flat. They go against the norm on that front, and I got that info because I noticed it, know the staff, and asked them about it. It is always good to talk to the staff. They will more than likely let you know exactly how they prep their lanes.
I'll make this quick and simple as one, a college player, and a college coach. Make your spares and practice consistently. That's literally it for a house shot.
ZVL, I saw your video on leagues arsenals, but I would like to know what YOU are bringing to your first league night. For myself, I am bringing a Black Widow 3.0, Phaze 2, Motiv Black Venom, and a Pitch Black for spares.
That's a great arsenal! For me, I'm currently planning on bringing a Quantum Evo Response (or a Theorem if I don't get the Response drilled in time), a Scorpion Low Flare, and a plastic ball
The easiest way to boost the average is to bowl within your capabilities, make your spares, and try to prevent splits from happening by getting too steep.
Our house has changed the oil once again. Every year they try some new lane conditioner, the real problem is the lane beads are so old and really need to be replaced but instead of replacing lane panels they are trying to combat the old early friction panels with a new type of conditioner, I was told that the new conditioner is kegal curve, I've been bowling on it now for about two weeks with my normal equipment and it seems to me that the skid phase of ball motion is shorter, as far as how long the pattern will hold up and how it will transition during league is still unknown to me, but I feel like lighter oil equipment is needed, especially for a guy like me who has low ball speed. Looks like I'm going to be playing more angle this year whether I like it or not and I don't really like to play a lot of angle, not my A game. Kinda am wondering if a short pin ball will workout?
i didnt know this, but apparently if you average high enough you dont get a patch for a 600 series. This was my first league and i ended with a 203 average and i was bummed when i didnt hear my name for the 600 series LOL.
