In the last episode of Fox Body REHAB, we bolted on our ProCharger, strapped our 1991 Mustang to the dyno, and made incredible power gains to the tune of 306 horsepower and 334 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels - great numbers by anyone’s standards.
However, now it was time to tackle the Mustang’s Achilles heel, the Ford AOD transmission. Where most automatic transmissions will let you manually shift through the gears, the Ford AOD transmission unfortunately won’t allow you to hold its second gear position. To solve this requires the installation and use of a modified valve body, which will overcome that shortcoming and allow us to not only shift into any gear we select, but more importantly, hold it until we’re ready to shift out of it manually.
Before we pulled the transmission though, we decided to do a little test fitting of our new wheels and big Mickey Thompson tires, which may or may not have presented us with some problems. Unlike most shops though, we here at Hemmings have Junior Nevison, and let’s say we’ve yet to see a problem that he can’t solve.
All of that and more is coming up on this episode of Fox Body REHAB!
