Lol that ordeal with Mayday was hilarious

The real "tragedy" here was that I actually had footage of all that fucking around I described, with moving folders to the VM and installing and moving stuff but for unknown reasons that footage got corrupted and I couldn’t use it. By the time I got to editing the video that was too much of an ordeal to even think about replicating for very little footage.

I am part of the small niche which loves these kind of videos. Very pleasent to watch. Congratz! Now on the games... Amerzone is very important historicaly. It is the first game writen by Benoît Sokal - the writer of Syberia series. I remember Pizza Syndicate - not that good, Pizza Tycoon remains the best in this genre. I can't believe I played back in the day that POS Respect Inc. :-) Same about Roland Garros :-) 🤟

Glad you dig it, we'll see how this one does :) I may have not yet found the right format for these, or indeed the interest is simply severely limited.

I played the shit out of Rites of War back then. Just like Panzer General 1&2, Peoples General and others in the genre I would frequently reload in order to get the perfect score at the end of the mission. At the time I didn't know anything about the 40k universe but even I knew the Human factions are much more interesting then the pointy ears (except the deathjester - that unit/model is freakin awesome!) . I always managed to fit in a cpuple or more units from the Imperium in my lists (Eldars get to ally with the Imperials against the tyranid invaders halfway through the campaign iirc) like the Seraphims, the lightning claw terminators or the Excorcist.

The Panzer Generals are on a future-future list for "Is it a classic?" I likewise played them and Peoples General and Fantasy General. Might be better to make a listicle out of them tbh, now that I listed them but I have my production schedule pretty packed for the near-to-mid future so not making any promises

Out of all of these titles I must admit I played the Roland Garros one WAY too many hours back in the day... Also fun fact, that was my first Warhammer game. It seems clunkier than I remember it tho but I guess it's normal.
@StefaNonsense
@StefaNonsense 11 месяцев назад
I wouldn't've thought you're a tennis person :) As for Rites of War it's not that clunky, it's still playable but there are so many much better modern choices nowadays it's not worth it, except for historic purposes such as this one :)
@GraphicReel
@GraphicReel 11 месяцев назад
@@StefaNonsense yup, seeing it again is enough, I don't think I'd go into Rites of War nowadays. I trained with Halep's first trainer and besides basketball I miss tennis but you know my knee situation, so installing an NBA or tennis game once every 4-5 years does help a bit. But I do remember this one very clearly. I usually go for Mario Tennis or something like that but I'm pretty sure I have a pirated copy of Roland Garros 99 around here too.

lol. Can't believe all that work you put into getting MayDay to work. Ah, PC Gaming; ya gotta love it :) Respect Inc seems very interesting. I'm quite interested in pre-GTA3 pseudo open-world action games since I'm a big fan of Body Harvest and Space Station Silicon Valley (have to check out Urban Chaos on the Dreamcast tho). I am not in love with the cartoony gangster aesthetic, but it does remind me of VIS' old games somehow (Earthworm Jim 3D, State of Emergency) and I find it kinda neat looking just because of that nostalgia feeling. Gonna have to look more into it.... EDIT: Aaaaand, there's hardly anything on it on RU-vid. _Great_ Warhammer Rites of War also looks neat. I just like the aesthetic of that kind of sprite art. That too reminds me of something else, though I can't remember what. Don't think I knew about any of these going into the video, but that's why they're all so neat to learn about now!

you can find Respect Inc. on myabandonware but whether or not it'll actually run properly on a modern system is up to for discussion :)) Thanks for watching!

All that work I put in and the fuckong thing still wouldn't work. The real "tragedy" here was that I actually had footage of all that fucking around I describe, with moving folders and installing and moving stuff unto the VM but for unknown reasons that footage got corrupted and I couldn’t use it. It was surely the Ruinous Powers interfering with my future greatness once again!

I might still have an old box copy of Amerzone somewhere. Never heard of Mayday Conflict Earth but it looks good, and shows why piracy will never be stamped out, they just provided better service. Pizza Syndicate/Fast Food Tycoon sounds cool but that menu ui though. Never heard of Respect inc, and I think I see why. I'd heard of Rites of War but having to play as the Eldar kinda kept me away from it. Also I would love to see more about the software scene in eastern Europe, I heard sometimes they would charge you per disc, meaning if you wanted something like Baldur's Gate you were paying the full retail several times.
@StefaNonsense
@StefaNonsense Месяц назад
You did pay per disc, but games were usually compressed to shreds so would not feature things like cutscenes and music and those are the things that arguably occupy the most space, hence why all these games were on compilation discs :) However, you were paying for a bootleg disc so they didn't cost nowhere near what the "legal" price would've been - and I mean by tenfold-ish factor here, possibly more :) Most of the money you spent, and spend now, on any media product is marketing and packaging, but mostly marketing. With those costs non-existent and after some years "burn-on-demand" services, shit was quite affordable :) Also that boxed Amerzone sounds like smth I need to have in my collection :) Btw, I have a much longer series on here called Video Game Thrifting in Denmark, where you can see me start my physical PC game collection.

Ah man! I loved the Powerplay collection CDs when I was a kid! Powerplay 6 (from 1998 i presume) had Super Mario World for Win95. To this day, that was the best PC port of SMW I've ever played. Sadly the CD reads as a blank now :(

Emulators for old hardware rarely works. You really wanna have a couple of time-appropriate machines laying around.

That is indeed something I am discovering with this series of videos and coincidentally something I'm writing about right now in this week's newsletter, which I post here on the YT Community Tab in case you're interested :) Thanks for watching and extra thanks for commenting!

Good gods I barely know these games and played nothing but here are my opinions! 1st game: thats a pretty game! Looks like something id enjoy, point and clicks are fun~ maybe the darkness can be fixed with the right settings. 2nd: not my type of game at all, but im sure others would like it. 3rd: looks fun! And yah lots of retro games on PC has these types of problems. VMs tend to give me issues and a lot of my games I play from the 80s/90s/00s I play on my ligit 98se or XP machine. You can tell the pirated version must have had some fixes cus you know, piracy is king. 4th: good fucking 90s batman! Thats a proper mindfuck of a UI right there. Back then you had a 700MB CD to work with so you just had to fit whatever you could in as little space as you can to compensate for lower resolutions. How do you do that? Pictures! Old D&D games do this too. 5th: looks alright but not a game im clamoring to play. Almost kinda has a "Space Bunnies Must Die" feel to it. Also to answer your question, its like I said last game. Fitting what you can for lower resolutions. Pictures! Some people did it for stylized stuff though. 6th: looks cool! Have yet to play the warhammer games on my gog list. Definitely on the list ^^ 7th: even if it worked I wouldnt play it regularly. Not a sports fan. Maybe like a game or 2 just to experience it and thats it. Great video!!! Id love to see you take on demo disks like the windows 95 sampler I made a video on or other demo disks! Maybe you can even talk about the unofficial expantions that came in boxes like duke x-treme in that green box!

It is likely these are unknown to most NA dwellers seeing as how back then the mainstream gaming industry was completely dominated by consoles and PC gaming had the popular heavy hitters that drowned out everything else, for instance how Diablo 2 buried alternate titles like NOX and Divine Divinity.
