your discussion on your own executive dysfunction made me feel so seen. i love reading on a small device but i find that if i try to read on my phone, i can’t stop myself from leaving whatever app im reading on to go doom scroll some more. reading on my phone is a workout bc it’s so distracting and hard to focus on my book when i can so easily leave my book. i had a kindle but i just recently sold it even tho i loved it bc it was so much easier to focus on reading but i was getting really annoyed with how big it was. so i’m definitely thinking abt getting the boox palma since it seems to have everything i can ask for out of a device. every other compact ereader i’ve been looking into either doesn’t have warm light. i feel like there’s not a lot of good options which is very frustrating. so boox palma is probably the best option for me.
I've had the Boox Palma since April and use it almost daily. It holds its battery much better than my Oasis. I completely understand what you mean about it almost having a placebo effect in combatting doomscrolling. I've had a few people ask me about it, and the only reason I can't fully recommend it is the price. It's a bit steep for such a small device, but it's worth every cent for how I like to read! 📖
everything about the boox seems like something I would really like--the apps, customization, etc--but I struggle with small screens so much lol. Right now I read ebooks on my iPad but I don't love how cumbersome it can be. If boox had a slightly larger e-reader I think I would like it for myself but the phone size is a liiiittle too small for me (I've been saving up for a kobo)
This looks like a very interesting little device! I love the idea of being able to have access to the Libby app as well as Everand (I also HATE reading on a non e-ink screen so have never fully utilized Everand's ebook catalogue as well) It's a bit out of my price range at the moment but it might go on my Christmas wish list =). Thank you for opening up about your executive dysfunction. I have ADHD too and I know exactly what you mean when you say that sometimes its hard to do stuff, even stuff you know is fun and that you enjoy. I almost wish the Palma had phone capabilities because that just sounds really refreshing. I've looked into e-ink phones before but none of them seem to be able to do what this can do. Maybe one day!
This video is showing up at the PERFECT time for me! I was JUST looking at small tablets to use as e-readers so I had all my different book platforms on one device! I had no idea Scribd throttled your book access like that!
The apps are a big sell. Amazon no longer supports my kindle, so I can only get books by syncing them through my computer, which is such a pain. And I also hate reading books on a backlit screen, so I’ve never been able to read Libby ebooks. Being able to check out ebooks from the library (plus getting to play my crosswords while listening to spotify) is such a win! Thanks for the review, definitely putting this on my wish list.
I tend to read physical library books or listen to audiobooks on Spotify. I like the bigger screen of a kindle but this looks so cute for those who want a smaller ereader! 🫖
I would consider this purely for the size reduction when I have to carry a smaller purse. Re your executive dysfunction, hope you can work that out. I know I have that with me having adhd that without treatment for my own EO, I have trouble doing things like cleaning or even anything I like. It's so annoying! And it can still happen with treatment
I like the idea of an android device with an e-ink screen because sometimes I want to read things authors put on Ream or Patreon and reading on my phone just isn't an enjoyable experience. But the price is just way too high. If Amazon has any sense they'll make their own version of this.
if amazon ever did make one (which tbh i doubt they would) theirs would likely be the same price if not more expensive if you look at the cost of their other premium ereaders. but also while expensive i do think the price is pretty fair for what you get especially since they’re not a huge corporation that can sell at a loss
I put the Google Play Store on my Kindle. I watched a RU-vid video. I think I would like boox if it was the size of a kindle. It's too small for my liking.
ahh i think maybe you’re talking about the fire tablet - i’m focusing only on ereaders here bc reading on tablets hurts my head sadly. boox has larger ereaders, but i wanted something super portable 💞
The libraries in my area discontinued their partnership with Libby and has switched over to cloud library. So I can’t use my kindle much. If anyone knows if it’s compatible my life is yours
i haven’t had an issue! i like it bc i can zoom too. but i’d recommend anyone who wants it primarily for that to maybe try reading on their phone first to see if the size works for them
